Ruben Amorim does not believe Bruno Fernandes has played his last game for Man United

Ruben Amorim does not believe Bruno Fernandes has played his last game for Man United HONG KONG – Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim does not believe Bruno Fernandes has played his last game for the Red Devils, saying after their 3-1 win over Hong Kong in a friendly on May 30 that he had a feeling his captain planned to stay. The game at Hong Kong Stadium was played amid swirling talk that Saudi Pro-League club Al Hilal are prepared to splash out £100 million or more (S$173 million) for the Portuguese midfielder. Asked at a press conference if it was Fernandes' last game in a United shirt, Amorim said: 'I don't think so. I don't know for sure. I think he wants to stay. He is saying no to a lot of things. 'He sees us (the club) taking some actions and to change all the things... I talk with him, I explained some things and I just have that feeling when you talk to someone, I think you have that feeling if he wants to stay. 'The club can find other ways to make money. The feeling I get is that he wants to continue for sure with Man United, but you never know.' Fernandes had suggested after the season's final game – their 1-0 Europa League final loss to fellow Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur – that he could be sold to balance the books. Amorim acknowledged the 30-year-old was 'so frustrated' in many games in a horrible season where they finished 15th, their worst Premier League campaign. 'But he knows what we are doing,' the United boss added. 'Of course, I'm the manager. I'm the coach, but sometimes it's a decision of the player. But he's really good. He needs to be in the best league in the world.' United trailed at half-time against Hong Kong after a 19th-minute goal from Juninho, but Chido Obi scored shortly after the break and in the 82nd minute. Ayden Heaven then struck in the 94th minute. The victory at least salvaged something positive after United had been booed for their performance in a 1-0 loss to ASEAN All-Stars in Malaysia. They were also ridiculed for an open-top bus parade in Kuala Lumpur. But Amorim still deemed the tour a success. 'We have a clear idea of what we want,' he said. 'Of course we are a little bit limited, we cannot do everything in one summer, but we have a clear picture of what we want.' On player movements, defender Harry Maguire has admitted that 'a lot of players' will be shown the door after their horrible season. 'We will make a lot of changes in the summer. There will be a lot of players who leave and hopefully a lot will come in,' he said. 'And that's down to the club to make sure they get that right.' Sheer bliss of Man U fans

Pop-up Trafford Den in Kuala Lumpur is a hub for Manchester United fans to connect with each other, share their love for the club and meet some stars as the Red Devils stopped by Malaysia on their Asian tour. — Photos: LOW BOON TAT/The Star THEir favourite team might have lost the friendly to the Asean All-Stars, but for many local Manchester United fans, this has proven to be quite a special week in Kuala Lumpur. Malaysia's capital was chosen as the first stop on the Red Devils' visit to Asia this off-season. And while they were beaten 1-0 by the 'home team', it turned out to be a rather joyous occasion as fans paid tribute to the stars – boldly and unashamedly showing their passion, pride and unwavering loyalty. As the official beer partner of Man United, Tiger Beer brought pop-up Trafford Den to life, depicting just what it means to be a fan of the club in Malaysia. Set in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, Trafford Den was the Theatre of Dreams come true for fans as they had the chance to connect, listen to and relive their football moments with star players in attendance. It led some to declare: 'This is testimony that distance is no barrier for Man United and the fans here in Malaysia. 'This is a great experience made possible by Tiger Beer and the stars who visited.' (From left) Shaw, Heaton, Dalot, Nani, Casemiro and Sneep with the banner signed by fans. Going along with the sponsors' tagline, the fans 'uncaged their tiger, where every cheer and every roar echoed the spirit of boldness and passion.' The atmosphere heightened when Man United players Luke Shaw, Casemiro, Diogo Dalot, Tom Heaton and club legend Nani dropped in for a meet-and-greet session prior to the match. And the guests of honour did not disappoint – there were great cheers and photographs taken, with autographs signed freely. There was an overwhelming sense of togetherness, and a supporter who identified himself only as Ben said, 'Just like the club itself, we the United fans stand stronger and together.' A huge Tiger Beer and Man United banner was signed by the fans as a tribute to the club, which will head to Old Trafford to proudly showcase the passion of Malaysian football supporters. A supporter says the event proves that distance is no barrier to Manchester United fans. Heineken Malaysia marketing manager Julie Kuan said: 'Tiger Beer has always stood for boldness and connection, and with Trafford Den, we brought that to life in a way that truly resonated with the club and all it stands for. 'We didn't just bring Man United fans closer to the club, we brought to life the trinity of football fandom – connection, recognition and loyalty.' She said Tiger Beer created the platform, Manchester United embraced the passion and the fans showed up with unwavering pride. 'It was all about feeling seen, being heard and part of something much bigger. 'Because when fans uncage their 'tiger' and come together, they roar louder – and that spirit of Old Trafford isn't just in Manchester, it lives wherever Tiger Beer is.' United winger Amad explains obscene gesture

KUALA LUMPUR: Manchester United winger Amad says he doesn't regret making what appeared to be an obscene gesture towards some fans in Malaysia because his mother allegedly had been insulted. Footage shared widely on social media appeared to show the 22-year-old Ivory Coast international raising his middle finger while outside a hotel with his teammates in Kuala Lumpur earlier this week. 'I have respect for people but not for the one who insults my mum,' Amad wrote on X. 'I shouldn't have reacted like that but I don't regret what I did. 'We had a great time in Malaysia with good people.' United did not respond to a request for comment. The team's postseason Asia tour had already got off to a bad start when United lost their friendly against a Asean All-Stars 1-0 in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday. Some fans booed in response. Even Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was disappointed, suggesting United could be relegated after watching the team lose, despite the fact they were probably affected by jet lag. 'Ouch. Man United failed to win another trophy,' Anwar, one of 72,500 fans at Bukit Jalil Stadium in the Malaysian capital, wrote on social media. 'Looks like you're in for another tough season, hope you don't drop to the Championship,' he added, referring to England's second tier. United then travelled to Hong Kong for another friendly. 'We were not really focused in the last game, and everybody can feel it,' United manager Ruben Amorim said on Thursday. 'We just want to turn the page and improve in the next season.' On Sunday, United finished 15th in the Premier League, their lowest-ever ranking in the competition, just four days after a loss in the Europa League final to Tottenham meant their European season ended without a trophy. — AP

Bill Clinton writes to ‘amazing' NI boy awaiting heart transplant: ‘Our world would be better if there were more people like you'

Dáithí Mac Gabhann has been on the heart transplant waiting list since 2018 and his family have tirelessly campaigned for the legislation on organ donation to be changed to help increase the number of donors. The Organ and Tissue Donation (Deemed Consent) Act (Northern Ireland) 2022, is known as named in 'Dáithí's Law' in recognition of the young boy. He was granted the Freedom of the City of Belfast in 2023 and celebrated at Belfast City Hall – becoming the youngest ever recipient of this honour. Over the years he has received support from celebrities, including Newcastle United FC legend Alan Shearer, Man United star Marcus Rashford and TV presenter Vernon Kay who hosted the ceremony for the Sunday Life Spirit of Northern Ireland Awards where Dáithí was honoured. A post on Donate4Dáithí on X (formerly known as Twitter) said 'it's not every day a letter comes through door in Ballymurphy from a former US President'. A letter from the ex-President who is credited for his role in the NI peace process came on paper headed, 'William Jefferson Clinton'. It states: 'Your dad wrote to tell me about your recent visit to City Hall, to see your name listed among the freemen of Belfast. 'I'm so proud to share that honour with someone as amazing as you. As someone who's had heart surgery myself, I know how scary it can be, and I'm so impressed by the bravery you've shown throughout your life. 'I'm also deeply inspired by the way you and your family have worked hard to make positive change across Northern Ireland. 'Our world would be better if there were more people like you. I hope I'll have the chance to meet you and your family the next time I'm in Belfast. 'Until then, keep up your great work, and know that you have a big fan pulling for you in New York.' Lots of people commented on the post, with one person saying: 'Amazing Dáithí, such a lovely letter. I hope you get to meet Bill Clinton.' Others described Dáithí as a 'special' and 'amazing wee boy' saying it was 'lovely to see'.
