Siddapura couple to participate in Independence Day celebrations in Delhi
Karwar: A couple from Siddapura taluk in
Uttara Kannada district
have been selected to take part in the 78th
Independence Day celebrations
in New Delhi. Saraswati Naik and her husband, Ishwar Naik, members of Pragati Stree Shakti Sangha in Hasuvante village, part of the Manamane Sanjeevini Federation, were selected to participate in the Independence Day celebrations.
The selection comes after the couple received financial support from the National Livelihood Mission under the skill development department.
A few days ago, officials had extended the official invitation to the couple.
According to Srividya PI, mission director of the National Livelihood Mission, the couple got this opportunity due to their active participation in the Saras Mela events under the Sanjeevini programme, where they showcased traditional Chittara art.
Ishwar Naik, a Chittara artist, also got a chance to participate in the Republic Day celebrations as well.
"This is a proud moment, especially for Saraswati, who represents self-help group members and skilled Chittara artists from Uttara Kannada district," Srividya said. In addition to participating in the prestigious event, senior officials confirmed that the couple will also have the privilege of meeting the President of India, Droupadi Murmu.
