Questlove Pays Tribute to Sly Stone: 'Changes He Sparked While Here Will Echo Forever'

The post Questlove Pays Tribute to Sly Stone: 'Changes He Sparked While Here Will Echo Forever' appeared first on Consequence. Questlove has paid tribute to late funk pioneer Sly Stone. In an Instagram post, The Roots drummer and music historian reflected on the musician's legacy and vast accomplishments, while also sharing his personal experience working on the original documentary Sly Lives! (aka the Burden of Black Genius). 'Sly Stone, born Sylvester Stewart, left this earth today, but the changes he sparked while here will echo forever. From the moment his music reached me in the early 1970s, it became a part of my soul,' Questlove wrote. 'Sly was a giant — not just for his groundbreaking work with the Family Stone, but for the radical inclusivity and deep human truths he poured into every note. His songs weren't just about fighting injustice; they were about transforming the self to transform the world. He dared to be simple in the most complex ways — using childlike joy, wordless cries, and nursery rhyme cadences to express adult truths. His work looked straight at the brightest and darkest parts of life and demanded we do the same.' Questlove continued by acknowledging Stone's addiction battle and disappearance from the spotlight before stating that the artist 'lived long enough to outlast many of his disciples, to feel the ripples of his genius return through hip-hop samples, documentaries, and his memoir.' 'Still, none of that replaces the raw beauty of his original work,' Questlove added. 'As I reflect on his legacy, two lines haunt me: 'We deserve everything we get in this life' — a line from the Sly Lives! documentary that feels like both a warning and a manifestation — and, of course, the eternal cry of 'Everyday People': 'We got to live together!' Once idealistic, now I hear it as a command. Sly's music will likely speak to us even more now than it did then. Thank you, Sly. You will forever live.' Stone's death at the age of 82 was announced by his family earlier today, June 9th. It followed 'a prolonged battle' with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and 'other underlying health issues.' Sydney Sweeney Put On More Than 30 Pounds for Christy Martin Biopic

The post Sydney Sweeney Put On More Than 30 Pounds for Christy Martin Biopic appeared first on Consequence. For her role as pioneering female boxer Christy Martin in an upcoming biopic, Sydney Sweeney went full Christian Bale, quickly and radically transforming her body to best fit the part. 'I came onboard to play Christy, and I had about three and a half months of training,' Sweeney told W Magazine in a new cover story. 'I started eating. I weight-trained in the morning for an hour, kickboxed midday for about two hours, and then weight-trained again at night for an hour.' 'My body was completely different,' she continued. 'I didn't fit in any of my clothes. I'm usually a size 23 in jeans, and I was wearing a size 27. My boobs got bigger. And my butt got huge. It was crazy! I was like, 'Oh my god' … But it was amazing: I was so strong, like crazy strong.' According to W, Sweeney then dropped the weight in just seven weeks to reprise her role as Cassie in the new season of the hit HBO series Euphoria. A proper title and release date for the David Michôd-directed biopic have yet to be announced. Sweeney is also recently made headlines thanks to her unique, we'll call it, collaboration with Dr. Squatch soap. Judge Throws Out Justin Baldoni's Defamation Lawsuit Against Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds

The post Judge Throws Out Justin Baldoni's Defamation Lawsuit Against Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds appeared first on Consequence. A vast majority of Justin Baldoni's $400 million civil lawsuit against Blake Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds was thrown out by a judge on Monday. Per People, Judge Lewis J. Liman granted a motion to dismiss the lawsuit filed by Baldoni and his production company, Wayfarer Parties, against Lively and Reynolds, which alleged extortion and defamation related to allegations Lively has made about Baloni occurring on the set of the film It Ends With Us. Baldoni does have the option of amending the lawsuit for breach of implied covenant and tortious interference with contract and re-filing by June 23rd. Additionally, Judge Liman dismissed Baldoni's separate defamation lawsuit against the New York Times over its reporting on Lively's allegations and her subsequent lawsuit against the actor/director 'The Wayfarer Parties have not alleged that Lively is responsible for any statements other than the statements in her [California Civil Rights Department] complaint, which are privileged,' Judge Liman wrote in the opinion and order filing. 'The Wayfarer Parties have alleged that Reynolds and [publicist Leslie] Sloane made additional statements accusing Baldoni of sexual misconduct and that the Times made additional statements accusing the Wayfarer Parties of engaging in a smear campaign. But the Wayfarer Parties have not alleged that Reynolds, Sloane or the Times would have seriously doubted these statements were true based on the information available to them, as is required for them to be liable for defamation under applicable law.' Lively's federal lawsuit against Baldoni remains active and is expected to go to trial in 2026. Among several allegations, Lively has accused Baldoni — who directed and co-starred in It Ends With Us — of sexual harassment, fostering a hostile work environment, and orchestrating a PR campaign to damage her reputation. Sabrina Carpenter Teases New Prada Beauty Product in Her ‘Manchild' Music Video

Sabrina Carpenter just gave her fans a 'taste' of what's coming at Prada Beauty in the music video for her new song, 'Manchild.' The 26-year-old singer was tapped to work with the luxury makeup, skin care and fragrance brand in September, a year after its launch. Wasting no time after the European leg of her 'Short n' Sweet' tour, Carpenter dropped the bouncy, upbeat ballad about young adult life on Thursday. A day later, she released the late 1970s-inspired music video set in the desert, which sees her wandering by a desolate road and snacking on a bag of Prada-stamped banana candies. More from WWD Miley Cyrus Puts Her Own Twist on a '80s Rockstar Hairstyle at the Chanel and Tribeca Film Festival Luncheon in NYC The Best Beauty Moments at The Fragrance Foundation Awards 2025: Laverne Cox, Vera Wang, Carolyn Murphy and More Outcast Clothing Brand Brings French Sensibility to the Grove in Los Angeles for a Limited-time 'Le Club Outcast' Pop-up Store It's no coincidence that the 'Espresso' artist was eating the sweet treat in her video. In fact, the flavored snack is both an ode to the brand's iconic banana print introduced in the spring 2011 collection and an Easter egg for an unreleased beauty product set to hit the market in June. This teaser comes after Carpenter revealed Prada Beauty's first mascara and featured the Color Changing Lip Balm in Astral Pink in her 'Please, Please, Please' music video last year. She was also seen dabbing her lips with Prada lipstick as the venegful blond out to get her ex-boyfriend's new lover in 'Taste.' In the 'Manchild' video, Carpenter's makeup includes the brand's latest product, the Prada Light Highlighter in the shade 02 Pink, as well as the Refine Blurring Extending Primer and the Reveal Skin-Optimizing Refillable Soft Matte Foundation in shades MN40, MC50 and MN55. Her dusty brown eye shadow look was made using the Dimensions Multi-Effect Refillable Eyeshadow Palette in shade 01 Portrait, the Pradalines Gliding Waterproof Smudge Proof Eye Pencil in shades 01 Nero and 02 Wood and, of course, the Pradascope Lash Lifting & Lengthening Mascara. Prada Beauty was created by The Prada Beauty Group in collaboration with L'Oréal, the brand's beauty licensee. Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, co-creative directors of Prada, spoke to WWD when the line launched. 'What does beauty mean today? This question was at the core of our work with L'Oréal,' they said. 'Abandoning all the clichés of the past, we believe that beauty today is the representation of one's personality, freedom and self-confidence.' Aside from her partnership with Prada Beauty, Carpenter has worked with several big-name fashion houses, including Versace and Louis Vuitton, but hasn't been named an official ambassador. Sabrina Carpenter's Hit Returns — Right Before She Scores A New Smash

Next week, Sabrina Carpenter will likely score a brand new smash on the Hot 100 with her latest single, "Manchild." The tune, which dropped on June 5, is headed for a lofty debut across a number of Billboard rankings — and it may even become the superstar's next top 10 hit. Ahead of what will likely be an exciting launch, Carpenter's previous focus track returns to the competitive tally and joins her most familiar tune as the singer-songwriter moves on to the next. Carpenter claims a pair of Hot 100 wins this frame in the United States as "Busy Woman" returns to the list of the most consumed songs in America, coming in at No. 97. The tune, which was pushed as the single from the deluxe edition of Carpenter's Short n' Sweet album, earns its fourteenth stay on the tally as it breaks back in. Somewhat surprisingly — despite a fairly long run on the Hot 100 for a pop tune — "Busy Woman" has only risen as high as No. 27 during its lifespan, and it seems unlikely that it will climb any higher. "Busy Woman" was Carpenter's most recent single before "Manchild," but it's her breakout smash that sits highest this time around. "Espresso" pushes from No. 24 to No. 21 as American audiences remain energized by the caffeinated cut. Each time the track holds on and finds space, it extends its lead as the recently-named Grammy winner's longest-running success on the Hot 100. The cut has now spent 59 weeks somewhere on the ranking — more than 20 stints longer than "Please Please Please," her second-longest-charting win. Radio may be largely helping "Busy Woman" in its return to the Hot 100. While the track doesn't appear on any sales- or streaming-focused rosters published by Billboard, it does chart on both the Pop Airplay and Adult Pop Airplay rankings. In fact, the tune soars to new highs on both lists, dancing to No. 21 on the former and No. 37 on the latter in just its second stay.
