Nashik civic body to acquire 250 acres more for Sadhugram; readies compensation model

Nashik: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has decided to acquire additional 250 acres at Sadhugram in Tapovan area of the city for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela — slated to be held between 2026 and 2028. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now With 100 acres of the current 350-acre no-development zone at Sadhugram already under NMC's possession, the remaining land is typically leased from landowners for the duration of the Mela. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has also affirmed the acquisition of this land for Sadhugram. This move is significant given the projected increase in visitors. Around 2.5 lakh sadhus attended the 2015 Kumbh Mela in Nashik, but an estimated 10 lakh sadhus are expected in 2027. Initially, the NMC had envisioned developing Sadhugram on 500 acres. However, to accommodate the anticipated surge in sadhus, the plan was expanded to 1,000 acres in Tapovan — a substantial increase from the 350 acres used for the 2015 Kumbh Mela. Civic chief Manisha Khatri, while talking to TOI, said the municipal corporation plans to acquire additional 250 acres at Tapovan before the Kumbh Mela begins. "We have plans to develop Sadhugram on around 1,000 acres. The remaining land will be taken on lease for the Kumbh Mela period. We are also preparing the proposal seeking funds from the state govt for acquisition of the 250 acres," she said. An NMC official said they have prepared the compensation model for the acquisition of the land at Tapovan in the city. "As per the formula, 50% compensation will be given in cash and 50% as Transfer of Development Rights (TDR)," the official said.

Nashik: Kumbh works worth 4,000cr to begin within six months

Nashik: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Wednesday announced its intention to commence major infrastructure projects, valued around Rs4,000 crore, for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela within the next six months. This rapid initiation aims to ensure timely completion of works requiring around two years. The projects will begin in phases following the tender process. The upcoming Kumbh Mela is scheduled between 2026 and 2028, with the flag hoisting ceremony set for Oct 2026. The first "Amrit Snan" (holy bath) is slated for Aug 2, 2027. While the NMC has prepared and submitted comprehensive plans totalling Rs15,000 crore for the Kumbh Mela to state govt, approval for these larger plans is still pending. With roughly two years remaining until the first "Amrit Snan", a significant event where sadhus and seers take a holy dip in Ramkund in the Godavari River, the civic body has decided to proceed with the tender process. Municipal commissioner Manisha Khatri, while talking to TOI, said tenders for works related to construction of the STPs and new bridges on Godavari and its tributaries have already been floated. "We are also seeking funds from state govt for various Kumbh Mela-related works, and proposals are to be sent within the next few days," she said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Get Affordable Health Coverage Today Search7 Learn More Undo "We are also in the process of floating tenders for the works related to the new water treatment plant and laying of water supply pipelines worth Rs450 crore. Works related to the development of Sadhugram and other projects are also to be started soon," Khatri added. Recently, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis conducted a meeting of Kumbh Mela in Nashik city to review preparations by the NMC and other authorities. During the meeting, he instructed the authorities to start the tender process for works which will take around two years for completion. An NMC official said they have already completed the tender process for the Rs1,632 crore sewage management project, which includes construction of four new large Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) with a capacity of treating 400 Million Litre per Day of sewage. "We already completed the tender process for this sewage management project and finalised the agency. The proposal has been sent to the CM for approval following which the work order will be issued to the contractor concerned," the official said. NMC has already initiated the tender process for Rs142 crore worth of Kumbh Mela projects. These include building six new bridges across the Godavari River and its tributaries, Nandini and Waldevi. These bridges aim to alleviate traffic congestion on both sides of the riverbanks during the religious gathering. The process for these bridge constructions is expected to conclude by mid-June.

NMC finds 181 spaces for temporary hoardings

Nashik: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has identified 181 spaces across six divisions of Nashik city where hoardings can be put up temporarily following permission from the civic authority. NMC also warned that any hoardings placed outside designated areas would be considered illegal, the entity concerned would be fined Rs 2,000 or a case would be lodged at a police station. This step aims to address the issue of illegal hoardings, mainly political ones. NMC Commissioner Manisha Khatri instructed the officials concerned to identify spaces at major chowks and roads across the city where hoardings can be put up temporarily. Accordingly, NMC administration identified a total of 181 spaces in the city which are to be provided to the people for erecting hoardings temporarily for three to four days, but following approval of the NMC administration. The NMC administration also released the list of these 181 spaces for the public. NMC officials said, "People who put up hoardings at places other than the designated areas would face heavy action by the NMC authority. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Sensationell: Neue Förderung macht Wärmepumpen spottbillig! 1KOMMA5° Undo They will be slapped with a fine of Rs 2,000, or cases will be lodged against them at police stations. The NMC administration appealed to people to take permission from the civic body for temporary hoardings before they are put up in the city. In the past few months, NMC removed over 1,000 illegal hoardings across six divisions of the city. Manohar Chaughule, a resident, said that the NMC took a positive decision to provide spaces to erect hoardings temporarily for three to four days. "This will help enthusiastic party activists who want to put up hoardings related to birthday wishes or welcoming their party leaders. But at the same time, NMC should take stern action and file police cases against those who are putting up illegal hoardings at places outside designated areas so that people will take NMC's permission before putting up hoardings," he said.

Nashik civic body to use GSB material to temporarily fix potholes across city

Nashik: Continuous rainfall in May has worsened road conditions in parts of Nashik city. As tarring work is not possible owing to the downpour, the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has opted for temporary repairs using Granular Sub-base (GSB) material. The civic body had initially planned to begin tarring of roads on May 15, but persistent rain led to delays. Areas significantly affected include Ambad, the Tarwala Nagar-Amrutdham route, various parts of Panchavati, Cidco division, Dindori, Makhamalabad, Peth Road, Jail Road, and Satpur. Nashik has experienced heavy rainfall for the past few weeks, severely impacting most city roads. Adding to the problem, some roads damaged during last year's monsoon are yet to be repaired. The NMC, during a survey conducted earlier this year in Feb, had identified 10,000 potholes in various parts of the city. Municipal commissioner Manisha Khatri also gave a deadline of March-end to complete the repair works of all the potholes. The public works department (PWD), however, could repair only 70% of the potholes. Moreover, the roads that were dug by the Maharashtra Natural Gas Ltd (MNGL) and other organisations for piped natural gas installations have deteriorated the road conditions of most of the city roads as they are yet to be repaired. The NMC has already issued work orders of around Rs90 crore to the agencies concerned for repairs and resurfacing of some roads. It also includes Rs52 crore for repair of roads dug by the MNGL and other agencies. The remaining amount will be spent on repairing roads across all six divisions. An NMC official, while talking to TOI, said, "The plan was to start road repair works from May 15, but rain played spoilsport. Now, as it is still raining, it is not possible to carry out tar works. Hence, instructions have been given to officials concerned to repair the road potholes temporarily using the GSB material," a senior NMC official said. "Instructions have been given to the PWD officials to submit the reports related to road repair works after every alternate day. Our objective is to repair the roads at least temporarily so that the city residents would not face inconvenience due to the bad condition of some of the city roads," the official added.

Nashik smart city body hands over Goda Park to NMC 17 months after its inauguration

1 2 Nashik: The Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation has handed over the Goda Park project to the Nashik Municipal Corporation, 17 months after its inauguration. NMC plans to operate the park through a private agency and expects to reopen it to the public by July. NMSCDCL developed the Rs 20-crore Goda Park project on the Godavari river's banks near Ramwadi as a part of the river beautification project. The project features children's play areas, an amphitheater, fountain, open gym, rose garden, open restaurant and a floating jetty for boat rides on the Godavari river. It was inaugurated in Dec 2023. NMC commissioner Manisha Khatri, who took charge last Dec, directed officials to expedite the handover of the Goda Park project from the Smart City Corporation to NMC. The project was finally handed over to NMC last week. "The smart city corporation has handed over the Goda Park project to NMC. We are now working on managing, operating, and maintaining the project through a private agency that will be deployed shortly," Vivek Bhadane, NMC's garden superintendent, said.
