Hall of Fame QB Peyton Manning becomes latest sports celebrity to join NWSL Denver's ownership group
DENVER (AP) — Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning became the latest sports celebrity to join the ownership group of Denver's National Women's Soccer League expansion team on Tuesday. Manning follows two-time Olympic champion ski racer Mikaela Shiffrin, who was announced as an investor last month in a club that will make its debut next season. Manning and Shiffrin join an NWSL group in Denver led by controlling owner Rob Cohen. Denver was awarded the NWSL's 16th team earlier this year. 'Peyton's legacy as a champion and a leader is second to none,' Cohen said in a news release. 'His impact on Colorado sports is unmatched, and we're incredibly proud to have him as a partner. He brings passion, insight, and deep local roots — all of which will help us shape the future of Denver NWSL.' All around the NWSL, big-name athletes are investing in teams. Manning's brother, Eli, is part of Gotham FC, while Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is involved with the KC Current and NBA star James Harden backs the Houston Dash. Decorated Alpine ski racer Lindsey Vonn supports the Utah Royals FC. Manning was a five-time MVP and two-time Super Bowl winner in a career that started with the Indianapolis Colts and ended in Denver after helping the Broncos to a title following the 2015 season. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021 after throwing for 71,940 yards with 539 touchdowns and 251 interceptions. Thursdays Keep up to date on sports with Mike McIntyre's weekly newsletter. Since his retirement, Manning has grown his entertainment company Omaha Productions, which produces ESPN's 'Manningcast.' The show is hosted by the Manning brothers and offers an alternate way to watch 'Monday Night Football.' 'It's a real honor to be part of something so meaningful to the Colorado community,' Manning said of joining Denver NWSL. 'I'm proud to support the growth of women's sports and excited to help build a club that our city and our state can rally behind.' Denver NWSL is building a 12,000-seat temporary stadium that will be its home during the 2026 and '27 seasons. The team also recently unveiled plans for a state-of-the-art, 14,500-seat stadium that will be located in downtown Denver. ___ AP soccer:

Eli Pokes Fun at Peyton After Golf Gaffe
Eli Pokes Fun at Peyton After Golf Gaffe originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Former New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning hasn't needed much help staying around the game in the early years of his retirement. Much of that can be attributed to his brother, Peyton Manning, the Pro Football Hall of Famer with an expansive off-field empire. Advertisement The two co-host the 'Manningcast' for Monday Night Football and coach against each other during the Pro Bowl. Between commercials and number retirements, they aren't hard to find. Their presence is online, too, often at the expense of each other. The Giants legend recently poked fun at Peyton after a golf gaffe hit the timeline. Manning overshot his drive and hit a house, giving Eli plenty of ammo. 'I'm so proud!' Eli posted on Twitter. When he isn't trolling his brother on social media, there's a good chance he's hanging around New York sports. He's among the cavalry of former Giants who have spoken to the team at organized team activities. Advertisement On Wednesday, head coach Brian Daboll spoke to reporters about their presence. 'Yeah, it's something I thought about at the end of the season, getting ready for this upcoming season, some of the things I wanted to do,' Daboll said. 'One of those was to bring some guys in, brought a number of them in. There will be another one here today. Give a good message about what it means to be a Giant for them and some different things that hopefully mean something to our players. 'Obviously a lot of legends that have played the game for this organization and tremendous football players in the National Football League, and I have a good relationship with a lot of those guys throughout my time here and they're willing to come in and talk to those young guys. I think it's beneficial for them.' It may be a coincidence, but New York likely appreciates that Manning, Michael Strahan, and Justin Tuck play the same positions as its 2025 first-round picks. Edge rusher Abdul Carter was grateful for the experience of listening to Strahan and Tuck, and Jaxson Dart has a history with Manning given their connections to the University of Mississippi. Advertisement 'No, we have conversations before they come, but again, to hear from an LT or a Stray (Strahan) or a Tuck or Eli. There's been a number of them,' he added. 'I think it's good for these players that are playing for this organization to hear from guys that have done it at a high level, not just for the New York Giants, but for the National Football League.' Needless to say, fans can expect to see much more of Manning this season, whether it be around the Giants or on ESPN. New York Giants legend Eli Manning zings brother Peyton after his Sports Emmy win
New York Giants legend Eli Manning zings brother Peyton after his Sports Emmy win Legendary New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning hasn't strayed far from the NFL world since his retirement in 2020. He and his brother, Peyton Manning, joined ESPN in 2021 as analysts, running the Manningcast that airs alongside Monday Night Football games. Eli also has a show called Eli's Places on ESPN+, where he travels to historical and well-known college football landmarks and establishments, talking with college greats to gain a better understanding of the game. One of the reasons Peyton and Eli have become so popular is their hilarious relationship in which each one jabs at the other. Everything is a competition, all in good fun, and the younger Manning is always trying to one-up his older brother. Except that Peyton doesn't like to be one-upped and will do everything he can to bring Eli down before that happens, which usually results in some comedic nonsense that you have to witness to fully understand. Earlier this week, Peyton was awarded his second Sports Emmy for Outstanding Personality/Event Analyst as the co-host of Manningcast. Eli was not granted an Emmy, so it's only natural that he would take credit for the one Peyton received. As co-host of the show that earned Peyton this award, it's only fitting that Eli should get some of the credit. Let's be real, the show isn't what it is without both brothers, and Eli often gets passed over for Peyton. Still, congratulations to Peyton Manning on his Sports Emmy award. Even though he should be sharing it with his brother, something Eli won't let him soon forget.

Big Peyton Manning Announcement Made on Tuesday
It has now been nine years since Peyton Manning called it quits from the NFL. During his 17 seasons in the league, he established himself as one of the greatest and most skilled quarterbacks of all time, and he ended his career with a victory in Super Bowl 50. Since his retirement, he has taken on a number of media projects, including the so-called "Manningcast," which he hosts with his younger brother Eli, who himself was a standout NFL signal-caller. It serves as an alternate broadcast of "Monday Night Football" where the two give their own commentary as a game takes place. Advertisement On Tuesday, Peyton Manning was named the winner of the Sports Emmy award for "Outstanding Personality/Event Analyst." Peyton Manning was the No. 1 pick in the 1998 NFL Draft out of Tennessee, and he was one of the most hyped rookies to ever enter the league. As a rookie with the Indianapolis Colts, he completed just 56.7% of his pass attempts and led the league with 28 interceptions, but his potential was obvious. The following year, he got the first of 14 Pro Bowl nods and threw for 4,135 yards, 26 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. With pieces such as star wide receivers Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne developing around him, it was only a matter of time before the Colts won it all. After missing all of the 2011 campaign, he joined the Denver Broncos the following season and spent his final four years there.
