Pact signed to jointly develop hydrogen transport network

MUSCAT: OQ Gas Networks SAOG (OQGN), the exclusive operator of Oman's natural gas transmission system, has signed a Term Sheet Cooperation Agreement with Belgium-based Fluxys to jointly develop a hydrogen transportation network in the Sultanate of Oman. Under the agreement, Fluxys will join as a minority shareholder, co-owning and operating the planned infrastructure alongside OQGN. The agreement builds on an earlier Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in September 2023 and strengthens their partnership following Fluxys' acquisition of a 4.9% stake in OQGN during its Initial Public Offering (IPO). Both companies share a vision for leading the energy transition and see this collaboration as a key step toward realizing Oman's Vision 2040 and its national hydrogen production targets. With complementary infrastructure and expertise, OQGN and Fluxys aim to fast-track the rollout of hydrogen transport systems to support Oman's clean energy ambitions. The partnership also reflects a broader goal to exchange knowledge and best practices to accelerate low-carbon developments. The agreement was signed by Eng Mansoor bin Ali al Abdali, CEO of OQGN, and Pascal De Buck, Managing Director and CEO of Fluxys, during a ceremony at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Muscat, held under the auspices of Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals. 'We are excited to work with Fluxys in developing hydrogen transportation infrastructure to support Oman's green hydrogen and decarbonisation goals,' said Eng Al Abdali. 'This collaboration reflects our commitment to delivering cost-effective, sustainable energy solutions for the future.' De Buck added, 'Partnering with OQGN marks a major step in our strategy to build international low-carbon value chains. We look forward to contributing to Oman's energy transition while bringing renewable hydrogen to Belgium and Europe.'

OQGN, Gasunie ink MoU on hydrogen corridor and CCUS

MUSCAT: OQ Gas Networks SAOG (OQGN), the exclusive operator of Oman's natural gas transmission network, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gasunie Waterstof Holding BV (Gasunie), a Dutch natural gas infrastructure and transportation company operating in the Netherlands and Germany. Aligned with Oman's Vision 2040 and its commitment to a sustainable energy future, this strategic agreement reflects OQGN's ambition to position the Sultanate of Oman as a key global player in the energy transition. The collaboration will explore the development of a hydrogen corridor between Oman and the Netherlands/Northwest Europe and facilitate mutual knowledge exchange in carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) opportunities. This MoU builds upon the earlier government-level MoU signed between Oman and the Netherlands in November 2022 during COP27, which aimed to enhance bilateral cooperation in green energy and support the development of hydrogen export-import corridors. The MoU was co-signed by Eng Mansoor bin Ali al Abdali, CEO of OQGN, and Willemien Terpstra, CEO of NV Nederlandse Gasunie and 100% shareholder of Gasunie Waterstof B.V. This strategic collaboration aims to explore the creation of a hydrogen supply chain linking the Sultanate of Oman with the Netherlands and Northwest Europe, with a focus on assessing the development of the necessary hydrogen infrastructure within Oman. It also seeks to establish a strong foundation for the exchange of expertise in CCUS technologies, supporting both countries' commitments to global climate goals and sustainable development. Commenting on the signing, Eng Mansoor bin Ali al Abdali, CEO of OQGN, stated: 'OQGN is proud to support the advancement of Oman's green hydrogen value chain by ensuring the timely development of critical hydrogen infrastructure. OQGN and Gasunie, will jointly evaluate, enable, and deliver the key requirements to move this strategic initiative forward. This collaboration will also strengthen Oman's role in the global energy transition and promote innovation in CCUS initiatives, which are essential to achieving international climate objectives and driving long-term sustainability.' The signing of this MoU underscores OQGN's commitment to international collaboration in accelerating the global energy transition. It also reinforces the Sultanate of Oman's strategic vision to emerge as a leading exporter of green hydrogen. As the custodian of Oman's gas transmission infrastructure, OQGN is uniquely positioned to support and enable this transformation.
