MARATHA LIRC celebrates Independence Day with ‘Tiranga' series of events
In the run-up to the 79th anniversary of India's Independence, the Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre (MARATHA LIRC) conducted a series of patriotic events under the able leadership of Brigadier Joydeep Mukherjee, Commandant, MARATHA LIRC. These celebrations reflected the regiment's steadfast devotion to the nation's ideals and the enduring camaraderie among its ranks. Festivities began on 13 August, with the Tiranga Cycle Rally, promoting physical fitness, environmental awareness and national pride. Participants pedalled through designated routes, proudly carrying the tricolour and inspiring onlookers with their enthusiasm. On 14 August, the Tiranga Run brought together officers, JCOs, and other ranks in a spirited display of discipline, teamwork and vitality, symbolising both physical preparedness and unity of purpose. The celebrations culminated on 15 August with the Tiranga Yatra, a vibrant rally that showcased regimental pride and collective resolve. Together, these three events formed a fitting tribute to the courage and sacrifice of our forebears, reaffirming MLIRC's unwavering commitment to the values and unity of the nation.

Govt primary school, Bassapur celebrates I-Day Govt Primary School, Bassapur of Belagavi taluk celebrated the 79th Independence Day with patriotic fervour and community spirit on Friday. The event witnessed the active participation of students, teachers, and local leaders who came together to honour the spirit of freedom and the sacrifices of national heroes. The national flag was hoisted with due reverence, followed by a series of cultural and patriotic programmes presented by the students. Inspirational speeches delivered by the students highlighted the importance of independence and the role of youth in building the nation. To encourage academic excellence, Rakhi Kulakarni presented a memento and cash prize to the 7th class first and second rank holders of the school. In an effort to promote sports and physical activities among children of the pre-primary section, Vikram Patil, Nagappa Bagewadi, Chambanna Ullegaddi, Jagadish Pujari, Chandru Chachadi, and Siddanna Bagewadi generously donated various sports items to the school. Their contribution was acknowledged with heartfelt thanks and a felicitation ceremony conducted by the school authorities. The Directorate of Public Relations, Ministry of Defence, said in a statement that the events kicked off on August 13 with a cycle rally headed by Brigadier Joydeep Mukherjee, Commandant, MARATHA LIRC. The 'Tiranga cycle rally' sought to inspire fitness, eco-awareness, and national pride, it added. On August 14, the 'Tiranga run' brought together officers, JCOs, and ranks in a show of discipline, teamwork, and vitality, reflecting physical readiness and shared purpose. The festivities wrapped up on August 15 with the 'Tiranga Yatra,' a rally highlighting regimental pride, the release said. Belagavi: The Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre (MLIRC) celebrated Raksha Bandhan with great zeal and reverence on Saturday. The festival, signifying the sacred bond of protection between brothers and sisters, was marked by participation from all ranks and the civilian fraternity. As many as 227 schoolchildren, women from NGOs, including Inner Wheel, and families of serving personnel, came together to tie rakhis on young Agniveers and soldiers, who received the sacred threads with pride and humility, reaffirming their solemn pledge to protect the motherland and its citizens from all forms of threats, both internal and external. Yoga day celebrated at MLIRC
The Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre (MLIRC) celebrated International Yoga Day with week-long activities. MLIRC officers, personnel and their families participated in various activities. The event commenced with an inaugural address by Commandant of MLIRC Brigadier Joydip Mukherjee who emphasised the growing relevance of Yoga as a sustainable health practice that enhances both individual resilience and collective harmony. He underscored the 2025 theme, 'One Earth, One Health', which resonates deeply with the Army's ethos of self-discipline, balance and unity with nature. Soldiers, families and school children of APS Belagavi participated in large numbers, demonstrating their commitment to wellness. The week-long celebrations included a diverse array of practices such as Hatha Yoga, Pranayama and Guided Meditation, which not only introduced participants to the foundational elements of Yoga but also equipped them with practical tools to manage stress, enhance mental clarity and build emotional resilience. The Indian Army continues to champion health and wellness initiatives that strengthen the mind and body of its personnel and their families. This year's International Day of Yoga served as a powerful reaffirmation of the Army's dedication to building a resilient, healthy and environmentally conscious community, in perfect alignment with the global theme, 'One Earth, One Health', said a release.
