Maratha Royals clinch T20 Mumbai League title
A half-century by Chinmay Sutar and useful contribution by Awais Naushad helped Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals defeat SoBo Mumbai Falcons by five wickets in a low-scoring final and clinch the T20 Mumbai League title. Electing to bowl, Maratha Royals restricted Mumbai Falcons to 157 for 4 in 20 overs and then reached the target with four balls to spare with Sutar scoring 53 off 49 balls, studded with two boundaries and as many sixes. Naushad struck a quick-fire 38 (24 balls) and shared a 67-run partnership with Sutar for the fourth wicket as the pair took Maratha Royals to the doorstep of victory. Earlier, Mayuresh Tandel (50 not out)and Harsh Aghav's (45 not out) unbroken partnership of 85 runs off 49 balls helped Mumbai Falcons put on 157/4. The team was in trouble at 60/3 at the halfway stage before captain Shreyas Iyer's dismissal reduced them to 72/4 in the 12th over. Aghav, who slammed four sixes, accelerated the scoring with Tandel but still the team ended with a below-par total. Brief scores: SoBo Mumbai Falcons 157 for 4 in 20 overs (Mayuresh Tandel 50 not out, Harsh Aghav 45 not out; Vaibhav Mali 2/32) lost to MSC Maratha Royals 158/5 in 19.2 overs (Chinmay Sutar 53, Awais Khan 38) by five wickets.

"Can't Single Out..., It's Backstabbing": Shreyas Iyer Suffers Another Final Heartbreak After IPL
When it comes to finals, Shreyas Iyer 's luck doesn't seem to be on his side. Just 10 days after his side, Punjab Kings, suffered a defeat at the hands of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 final, Iyer was at the center of another runners-up show in the Mumbai T20 league. Iyer's side, SoBo Mumbai Falcons, were beaten by Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals, with the batter himself failing to fire in the title-decider, much like what happened in the IPL final. Batting first, the Falcons could only put 157 runs on the board, with Mayuresh Tandel (50) and Harsh Aghav (45) being the top-scoring batters for the team. Iyer could only score 12 off 17 balls while Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who plays for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL, also faltered, scoring 7 runs in 12 balls. Chasing the target, the Maratha Royals saw Chinmay Rajesh Sutar and Awais Khan Naushad lead the run chase, scoring 53 and 38 respectively. The Maratha Royals chased down the target with 4 balls to spare. After the game, a heartbroken Iyer said that he didn't want to single anyone out for the defeat as that's 'backstabbing'. "Don't want to pinpoint any particular incident. Overall, the boys were brilliant with their efforts. We lost just one game en route to the final. Just a one-off game where you can't single out anyone - it's basically backstabbing, and I don't enjoy that. We've learnt a lot. "It's pretty common to feel dejected after a final loss. It must hurt them. But when they come back next year, they'll have that extra motivation and confidence. They should be proud of their effort," he added. Indian cricket icon Rohit Sharma was also present at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai for the final, and even gave the runners-up medal to Iyer after his team endured a defeat. Nayar waxes eloquent on T20 Mumbai League's value
The last time the T20 Mumbai League was held, back in 2019, Abhishek Nayar was among the icon players. But as the tournament returns after a six year hiatus, Nayar is back as the mentor of Maratha Royals. Nayar, who until recently was the assistant coach of the Indian team, believes that the tournament will provide a perfect opportunity for young players to showcase their talent. 'What IPL did for Indian cricket, I think Mumbai T20 will do for Mumbai cricketers,' Nayar said on Saturday during the jersey launch of Maratha Royals. 'You have club cricketers who have not represented Mumbai, not necessarily played at that level. They would now experience what it is to play at that level, experience what it is to play in a match that's broadcast, and play at the Wankhede and DY Patil Stadium under lights. 'There are multiple aspects to it, and this tournament also financially helps a lot of cricketers to play this sport with a little more vigour,' the former India international said. The T20 Mumbai League will be held from June 4 to 12, with matches at the Wankhede Stadium and DY Patil Stadium. While some of the India internationals — including Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer — will be in action, it will also be an opportunity for several young cricketers. 'Although this is a shortened tournament, in the future when the tournament will be longer, it will create a platform for a lot of our youngsters to evolve into players who would represent Mumbai, and hopefully in the IPL also play for the country,' Nayar said.

Mumbai mainstay Siddhesh Lad named Maratha Royals captain in T20 League Debut
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], May 26 (ANI): Mumbai circuit's proven performer Siddhesh Lad will lead the Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals as captain for their debut campaign in T20 Mumbai League Season 3. A proud product of Shivaji Park, Lad's deep familiarity with Mumbai cricket and proven ability across formats make him the natural choice to lead a team built on strong fundamentals and local identity. A technically sound, level-headed batsman with over a decade of experience, Lad, 32, has played 74 First Class, 50 List A, and 60 T20 matches, amassing more than 4100 runs in the Ranji Trophy, where he stands eighth on Mumbai's all-time run-scorers list. An occasional off-spinner, he also spent time playing in the UK before returning to hit a career-best 169* against Odisha in the 2024-25 Ranji season. Known as Mumbai's 'crisis man' for his ability to steady innings under pressure, Lad brings that same grit and game awareness to the Maratha Royals. Beyond the captaincy, the squad sees two changes, with Rohan Raje and Saksham Parashar replacing icon player Tushar Deshpande, who will miss the season owing to national commitments with the India A squad touring England, and Arman Jaffer. Speaking on his appointment, Siddhesh Lad said, as quoted from a press release from Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals, 'It's an honour to lead Maratha Royals, especially in our first season. I've always taken pride in representing Mumbai, and this opportunity to lead a franchise rooted in Shivaji Park, where I began my journey, means a lot. Hailing from a cricketing background, with his father Dinesh Lad a respected coach and mentor to many Mumbai cricketers, Siddhesh grew up steeped in the game, training at Shivaji Park from an early age. In just his second First Class appearance in 2013, Lad hit twin fifties against Delhi, before playing a crucial knock of 88 in the 2015-16 final, leading Mumbai to their 41st Ranji title. Commenting on Lad's ability as a batter and a spearhead, Abhishek Nayar, Team Mentor, said: 'Siddhesh is a natural leader.
