Luca Marianucci's agent confirms talks with Napoli

The Serie A title race might well be hotly contested at the moment but that hasn't stopped teams from doing their transfer business. It has now been confirmed by his agent that Empoli's Luca Marianucci is in talks for a move to Napoli. Speaking at the Palermo Football Conference (via TMW), agent Mario Giuffredi, who represents Marianucci said, 'We have spoken to Naples, both us who represent the player and Empoli. The deal is practically done.'Marianucci has been among the breakout stars in Italy this season. The 20 year old defender has started 11 times this campaign and has garnered a lot of eyeballs with his performances. It has not all been surprising that Napoli have jumped in early to secure this signing. It is very openly known that both the Milan clubs were scouting the player Romano is reporting that the deal will cost Napoli €9m. However, there are some interesting aspects of this deal. Napoli's current options at the heart of defence include Amir Rrahmani, Juan Jesus, Alessandro Buongiorno and Rafa Marin. While it is difficult to state that this is really the cream of the crop, Napoli must let Marianucci develop at his own pace. Last season they signed a young defender in Marin but haven't really backed him like they should have. Kaulik Mitra l GIFN

Napoli agree deal to sign emerging Empoli defender

Multiple sources in Italy claim Napoli have reached an agreement to sign Empoli defender Luca Marianucci for 2025-26. The 2024-25 campaign isn't over, but Napoli have already secured the first signing for 2025-26. Several sources, in fact, claim that the Partenopei have shaken hands with Empoli for 20-year-old defender Marianucci. The Livorno-born centre-back made his Serie A debut this season and has collected 14 appearances across all competitions under Roberto D'Aversa. Sportitalia Alfredo Pedullà broke the news earlier this week, saying that Napoli had reached an agreement with Empoli over a permanent €9m deal. On Saturday, Corriere dello Sport and Gazzetta confirmed that the two clubs had shaken hands for a similar fee. Marianucci is expected to sign a five-year deal at the Stadio Maradona and join the club when the summer transfer window opens on July 1, 2025. A product of the Empoli academy, Marianucci has provided two assists in four Coppa Italia matches this term and contributed to the Tuscans' qualification for the tournament's semi-finals.

Made in Empoli - youngsters eye relegation battle after Juve Cup upset

Feb 27 (Reuters) - Having used inexperienced, home-grown talent to beat Juventus and reach the Coppa Italia semi-finals for the first time, Empoli may use the same tactic in their battle for Serie A survival. Holders Juventus fielded a full-strength side on Wednesday as Empoli made eight changes to the team who lost 5-0 to Atalanta last time out and they secured a famous victory after a penalty shootout. One of the heroes was 20-year-old defender Luca Marianucci who calmly slotted in the final spot-kick in front of the Juventus fans, having also converted during Empoli's shootout win over Fiorentina in the previous round. Marianucci, who has been at Empoli since the age of seven, made his senior debut in the first round of the cup in August but has had to bide his time in the league, making his first two starts in Serie A this month. Alongside Marianucci at the back was 19-year-old Lorenzo Tosto, another product of Empoli's youth sector, whose father Vittorio finished his playing career at the club. Tosto has just one minute of Serie A football under his belt, a late substitute appearance in Empoli's 4-1 defeat at Juventus this month. Midfielder Jacopo Bacci made his first start against Juventus. The 19-year-old had made two substitute appearances in the league, and it was his pass that set up Youssef Maleh to put Empoli ahead. Empoli, without a win in 11 league games, are 18th in the standings, but the youngsters who stood tall at the Juventus Stadium may well play a bigger role for the remainder of the season, beginning at Genoa on Sunday. "The boys have achieved a feat, writing a historic page for this club and it must also serve us for the league," Empoli manager Roberto D'Aversa said. "I had asked for a game of pride, we went even further. There were three boys from the youth sector on the field. If we play like tonight we will achieve our goal."
