Queen Elizabeth Found One Aspect of Her Coronation 'Horrible'
Near the beginning of Queen Elizabeth's historic 70-year reign, she took part in her coronation on June 2, 1953—72 years ago. Despite all the pomp and ceremony, the Queen found one aspect of her coronation 'horrible.' The three-hour ceremony had over 8,000 guests in attendance, including a 4-year-old Prince years ago yesterday—on June 2, 1953—Queen Elizabeth's coronation took place just over a year after her historic 70-year reign began on February 6, 1952 and the death of her beloved father, King George VI. The next coronation didn't take place until May 6, 2023—almost exactly 70 years later—when the late Queen's son King Charles took the throne. Queen Elizabeth's own coronation was significant as it was the first one to be televised, but the monarch apparently found one aspect of her big day to be 'horrible,' according to Marie Claire. In the BBC 2018 documentary The Coronation, none other than the Queen herself spoke about the event—after all, who better to ask? As she arrived at Westminster Abbey that day in the Gold State Coach, the Queen looked every bit the part—but the reality of riding in the coach was 'horrible,' the Queen said. 'It's not meant for traveling in at all. I mean, it's only sprung on leather. Not very comfortable.' It wasn't a short ride in the Gold State Coach, either, as the Queen said she went 'Halfway around London.' 'It can only go at a walking pace,' she said in the documentary. 'The horses couldn't possibly go any faster. It's so heavy.' Per Marie Claire, the Gold State Coach was built as far back as 1762, designed by William Chambers and constructed by coachmaker Samuel Butler. Since 1831, the coach has been used at every coronation, including King Charles' two years ago. The coach was pulled by eight grey gelding horses at Queen Elizabeth's coronation, and on that particular June day, the late Queen's coronation was 'unseasonably cold and wet,' so staffers apparently 'strapped a hot water bottle under the seat' to keep the Queen warm—no doubt only further adding to how uncomfortable the ride was. There were 8,000 guests in attendance at Queen Elizabeth's three-hour coronation, including a 4-year-old Prince Charles—'the first heir apparent of a Queen to attend a coronation,' according to People. The Queen was crowned with the extremely heavy St. Edward's Crown—the same crown her father was crowned with 16 years before her. The crown weighs in at nearly five pounds—which doesn't sound heavy until you think of it balancing atop your head. 'The ceremonies you have seen today are ancient, and some of their origins are veiled in the mists of the past,' the Queen said on that day. 'But their spirit and their meaning shine through the ages, never, perhaps, more brightly than now. I have in sincerity pledged myself to your service, as so many of you are pledged to mine. Throughout all my life and with all my heart I shall strive to be worthy of your trust.' Read the original article on InStyle

Queen Elizabeth Once Made a Major Wedding Guest Etiquette Mistake—Here's How to Avoid the Same Faux Pas
In 2012, Queen Elizabeth II was visiting Manchester Town Hall as part of Diamond Jubilee celebration. John and Frances Canning, a couple getting married at the venue on the same day as the visit, heard about the monarch's event and invited her to the wedding via her staff at Buckingham Palace. Queen Elizabeth's staff politely declined the invitation, and the couple assumed they wouldn't see the royals on their wedding day. Instead, the Queen surprised them with a quick visit and photos after their ceremony. It's viewed as poor etiquette to RSVP "no" to a wedding but still arrive on the big day; though the couple was delighted to see the monarch at their celebration, avoid a similar guest faux pas by sticking to the RSVP you anyone who has ever planned a wedding can attest, tracking down guest RSVPs can be one of the most frustrating tasks on your to-do list. Your final guest count impacts everything from your final catering bill to how many tables and centerpieces you'll have to pay for—there are a number of vendors who are all anxiously awaiting your updated attendee numbers, which is why it's such a big deal when a guest RSVPs late, or worse, changes their attendance status at the last minute. Of course, unforeseen issues like illness and travel snafus do arise, but changing your RSVP from "no" to "yes" at the last minute is seen as a very significant etiquette faux pas. One notable wedding attendee who made this mistake? The late Queen Elizabeth II. In 2012, the former monarch was celebrating her Diamond Jubilee, or 60 years as Britain's reigning monarch, and was touring Manchester Town Hall as part of the festivities, Time previously reported. John and Frances Canning, who had already selected the venue for their nuptials, heard about the queen's forthcoming engagement and sent an extra invitation to her staff at Buckingham Palace in a "moment of madness," Marie Claire reports; in the weeks leading up to the wedding, however, they"received a reply politely declining the offer." Related: 10,000 Tiny Pearls Imported From the U.S.: The Secret Behind Queen Elizabeth's $1.6 Million Wedding Dress On the day of the wedding, Queen Elizabeth had a change of heart: "The late Queen and Duke of Edinburgh had been attending a lunch with 200 local volunteers in an adjacent room, and the Queen had asked if she could pop in to congratulate the bride and groom," Marie Claire notes. "The Queen and the Duke then spent about five minutes talking to the newlyweds, Frances and John Canning, and even agreed to pose for a few photographs." According to Time, a source told The Sun, that the Queen didn't want to "spoil their day, but did ask if she could meet the bride and groom.' Luckily, the bride and groom didn't mind that the royals changed their RSVP status at the last minute, attending the wedding even after previously declining the invitation. "It was bizarre that she knew our we had our ceremony, the staff asked us to wait for a moment in the corridor and just a few minutes later the Queen arrived." Frances told The Daily Mail, per Marie Claire. "She knew both our names and apparently we had been especially added to her rota." Her husband went on to note that Queen Elizabeth commented on "how beautiful Frances looked" and that Prince Phillip inquired about their honeymoon plans. They also posed for photos with the couple. Though their arrival was deemed a happy one, it's still an etiquette faux pas to attend a wedding after RSVPing no—in most cases, a couple and their wedding team would struggle to accommodate guests they haven't planned for, and may need to readjust seats and meals in order to make a new arrival feel comfortable. To avoid making this mistake, stick to the RSVP you've given the couple, even if your circumstances have changed. And if you suddenly can't attend a wedding due to illness or another emergency, be sure to let the couple know as early as possible, send your regrets, and mail a thoughtful card and gift. How Prince William Plans to 'Do a Diana Reboot' When He Becomes King
Someday, when Prince William becomes King, he has expressed a desire to do it his own way. That said, a royal author predicted that his leadership will be a mixture of his grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth, and his mother, the late Princess Diana. Edward White, who wrote the book Dianaworld: An Obsession released last month, said that the Prince of Wales is 'trying to do a Diana reboot of the monarchy.'Prince William has said himself that he intends to do it his own way when he takes the throne someday—and his approach to being King will, of course, in many ways mirror his father King Charles, but his leadership will also have touches of his late mother, Princess Diana. Edward White, author of the newly released Dianaworld: An Obsession (which hit shelves April 29), said that William is aiming for a 'Diana reboot of the monarchy' when he takes the top job, with White adding (via Marie Claire) that William's style will likely be a blend of Diana and the late Queen Elizabeth, William's grandmother. White told The Mirror that Diana raised William in a way that would keep the monarchy relevant: 'Diana said that she was trying to raise a future king that would ensure the monarchy survived into the 21st century—and William is trying to do a Diana reboot of the monarchy, combining the best of his mother and his grandmother,' White said. William's approach mirrors Diana's in many ways—he is empathetic, action-oriented, and people-focused. William also inherited a passion for some of Diana's chief causes during her royal work, like eradicating homelessness; William launched an initiative, Homewards, in 2023 that seeks to do just that in the U.K., and last year released the ITV documentary Prince William: We Can End Homelessness, about his efforts in the space. In the documentary, the Prince of Wales shared about his mother taking him to shelters as a boy, and that now as an adult, he struggles with 'not doing more.' 'I've spent enough time learning and listening to what people have been through that I feel almost guilty every time I leave,' William said. Of parallels to Diana—who died in 1997, when William was 15 years old—'She seemed to think that if she wasn't taking the most extreme course of action to remedy a problem, then she wasn't actually taking any action at all,' White told The Mirror. While in Cape Town, South Africa last November for the fourth iteration of his Earthshot Prize Awards, William explained his philosophy as Prince of Wales (and, someday, King) when he said, 'I can only describe what I'm trying to do, and that's trying to do it differently—and I'm trying to do it for my generation. I'm doing it with maybe a smaller 'r' in the royal, if you like—that's maybe a better way of saying it.' 'It's a reinvention,' Jason Knauf—a former aide who is now CEO of the Earthshot Prize—told The Times recently. 'How do you communicate to the generation that you serve? And it has to be different. It's not change for change's sake, but a question of how you're going to cut through a world where people are consuming things much more in terms of images than anything else.' Former New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern told The Times, 'A question that gets asked when you're in the public eye is: what are they like behind the scenes? What are they like in real life? And to the extent that I'm able to see Prince William in 'real life,' I would say he's exactly the same person. The areas that he's interested in and that he works in, he's very genuinely motivated by.' Ardern—who met William in 2019—said the future king has 'a very collaborative way of working. There is humility there, which is an extraordinary thing when you're born into a role of this nature.' That humility, no doubt, has Princess Diana's fingerprints all over it. 'It's difficult to meet anybody who met her and had a bad word to say about her,' White told The Mirror. 'People just instantly liked her. She had amazingly good social skills, she seemed to be very, very likeable, and I think sincerely cared about people. So there's a huge amount to like about her.' What We Know About Spirit So Far, From The Fights To The Leaks
New Delhi: Two of the country's biggest stars were reportedly set to collaborate with a filmmaker, infamous for his political incorrectness but equally trusted with his 'animalistic' instinct when it comes to hitting the jackpot at the box office. Deepika Padukone, Prabhas and director Sandeep Reddy Vanga seem like a unlikely trio to come together for Spirit because each of them represent a different kind of cinema and filmmaking sensibilities. And, yet it appeared to be a winning combination, precisely because of the acclaim, popularity, and mass reach put together, at least on paper. Perhaps it was. What Happened In a recent interview to Marie Claire, Deepika Padukone spoke about how a filmmaker said she was "taking motherhood very seriously" when he asked her to meet him. 'I don't know if [work] will be what it used to be before I had a baby, and I don't even know if I want to be that way…is [this] my new routine and schedule? Let's see how that evolves... He turned around and said, 'Oh, looks like she's taking motherhood very seriously'. I don't know if that was a compliment or a jab. What does that mean, taking motherhood seriously? Yeah,' she said. Deepika Padukone, true to her style, never took names but rumours mills started working overtime to find out who she could be talking about. A few days later, a Bollywood Hungama report emerged that Deepika Padukone had quit Spirit over remuneration and work-life balance issues as well as her unwillingness to dub for the film's Telugu version. Soon, Sandeep Reddy Vanga officially announced that he had chosen his Animal actor Triptii Dimri as his female lead for Spirit. When The Vanga Vs Deepika Feud (Almost) Became Official Online After the big announcement, the filmmaker went to social media and took an angry jibe at an unnamed senior actor for playing "dirty PR games" and breaking an unsaid non-disclosure agreement (NDA) regarding the story of Spirit. "When I narrate a story to an actor, I place 100% faith. There is an unsaid NDA(Non Disclosure Agreement) between us. But by doing this, You've 'DISCLOSED' the person that you are.... Putting down a Younger actor and ousting my story? Is this what your feminism stands for ? "As a filmmaker, I put years of hard work behind my craft & for me, filmmaking is everything. You didn't get it. You won't get it. You will never get it. Aisa karo.... Agli baar poori kahani bolna... kyunki mujhe jarra bhi farak nahi padtha. (Let's do one thing... next time tell the whole story... because I don't even care a bit) #dirtyPRgames," Vanga wrote on X. When I narrate a story to an actor, I place 100% faith. There is an unsaid NDA(Non Disclosure Agreement) between us. But by doing this, You've 'DISCLOSED' the person that you are.... Putting down a Younger actor and ousting my story? As a… — Sandeep Reddy Vanga (@imvangasandeep) May 26, 2025 Many believe Deepika Padukone hit back at Sandeep Reddy Vanga's supposed dig at her in an interview with Vogue Arabia on the sidelines of a presentation of Cartier's High Jewelry collection 'En quilibre' in Stockholm, Sweden. "Whenever I'm faced with complicated or difficult situations, to be able to listen to my inner voice and just stand by decisions that really give me a lot of peace is when I feel most in equilibrium," she said. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Vogue Arabia (@voguearabia) What Is Spirit About? The film is dubbed as a cop action drama, led by Baahubali star Prabhas. The project was announced in 2021 with Bhushan Kumar of T-Series and Pranay Reddy Vanga of Bhadrakali Pictures as producers. A recent report in Pinkvilla stated that the heroine's character in Spirit is the "most well-written female role in the world of Sandeep Reddy Vanga". "Deepika was truly impressed by the depth and detail of her character and the script. She's excited to work with Vanga for the first time," the website reported, quoting an anonymous source. Reports also said that Spirit would have "bold sequences" and would aim for an 'A' rating with the Central Board of Film Certification. In March, there was speculation online with social media users alleging that the story of Spirit had similarities to the Tamil film Theri (2016). In A Nutshell Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Deepika Padukone got into tussle over Spirit offline. The director then took the feud to X just after announcing that he had chosen Triptii Dimri, the breakout star of his 2023 film Animal, as his official female lead. Deepika Padukone seemingly responded to the filmmaker's jibe through international press. The biggest winner in this feud? Triptii Dimri. She will reportedly walk away with Rs 6 crore as Spirit fees, claimed to be her highest paycheque.
