Days of Our Lives Recap: Marlena Deals With Her Devastating Heartbreak originally appeared on Daytime Confidential. On today's Days of Our Lives recap: Marlena and John's Penthouse: Marlena is lying in her bedroom thinking back to the horrid moment when John died. A distraught Belle walks into the living room and asks Brady if they have coffee and wants to check on their dad. Brady stops her and says their father died. Belle doesn't understand. She thought he was doing better as Marlena sent them home. She's distraught because they could've been there to say goodbye. Brady says everything happened quickly and she would have called had there been time. Just then, Marlena enters and embraces her daughter. Brady returns with coffee and says Tate is still asleep. Marlena tells him to let the boy sleep as he just got over the flu. Belle notes Carrie, Eric and Paul are at the Salem Inn. Marlena stops them from calling so they can have some time before they have to hear the horrible news. Just then, Abe and Paulina arrive as they just heard the news. Paulina embraces her friend and says how sorry she is. Brady Pub: Kayla arrives and tells Roman that John is gone. She says John was rebounding when everything tanked. Kayla wishes there was something she could have done. Roman asks about Steve and Kayla says he's making calls. Kayla asks about his feelings and Roman says he's in shock. He knows they were once rivals but loves him for raising his children in his absence. Kayla agrees and says he was and always will be apart of the Brady family. Hope calls and tells Kayla about Bo's miraculous recovery. She is thrilled for them and hands the phone back to Roman. He promises to come see Bo very soon and they hang up. They are both thrilled by Bo's recovery but are still distressed by John's sacrifice. Neither can imagine what Hope will think when they learn about John's death. Paulina and Abe's Condo: The phone rings waking Paulina and Abe up. Abe answers the call from Steve and learns John died. After he hangs up, he tells Paulina the news. Horton House: Julie answers a call from Hope who tells her Bo is awake! She is thrilled and declares his recovery a miracle. Julie notes none of this would have happened if not for John Black's heroism. They agree to talk later and Julie goes to Doug's photo and tells him the amazing news. DiMera Mansion – Living Room: EJ and Kristen congregate. He says he has been working on his plans for the hospital. Kristen hopes he has also been working on getting her mother home. EJ promises to keep his word as long as Mama Blake doesn't testify against him and Rachel doesn't implicate Johnny in his shooting. Kristen insists they have a deal as long as he holds up his end of the bargain. Just then, Kristen hears Rachel scream and runs to see about her daughter. DiMera Mansion – Rachel's Room: Rachel tells Kristen she had a nightmare her Grandpa John died. Kristen says she doesn't have to worry about her Grandpa as her daddy said he was feeling much better. She says they can go that afternoon to the hospital to pay him a visit. With that, Kristen tries to get her daughter to go back to sleep for a while longer. As Rachel sleeps, Kristen texts Brady and says they need to talk about Rachel. He texts back to say he is on the way. With that, Kristen makes her exit. Brady arrives and Kristen says they need to talk about Rachel. She sees something is wrong and he tells her about John. Kristen doesn't understand and Brady says it was very sudden. EJ enters as Kristen says John is gone. He quickly exits and goes to see Belle. Kristen is in tears when she says how sorry she is to Brady and says how important his father was to everyone, including her. She can't imagine what he's going through and knows how hard it must be to accept John being gone. She admits to her complicated history with John but says she respected him and the world will be a lesser place without him. Kristen is mortified she stopped Rachel from seeing her grandpa the day before. Brady says he gave John her card before he passed. Kristen tells Brady about the nightmare Rachel had about her grandfather's death. Marlena and John's Penthouse: Brady tells the group he needs to go deal with an issue about Rachel. He embraces Marlena and says he will return as soon as possible. Abe and Paulina ask if there's anything they can do but Marlena is too distraught for words. They promise they are there to support her in whatever way the can. Belle brings Marlena tea and sees Abe and Paulina have gone. Marlena says they went to get her some pastries. Just then, Julie arrives with lemon bars not knowing the news. Marlena breaks down and says John is gone. Julie embraces Marlena and says how sorry she is and begs her to let her be of support. Abe and Paulina return with all kinds of pastries so at least folks will have something to eat. Julie takes everything to the kitchen as everyone stands around trying to figure out what to do. Abe asks Marlena if she's given any thought to John's funeral. She becomes agitated and says of course she hasn't. Abe assures her that he and Paulina will help her handle the arrangements. Just then, EJ arrives to pay his respects, but Marlena has no patience. Belle walks in and Marlena shoots her a look that says get him the hell out of here. With that, Belle takes EJ by the hand and leads him off. Julie returns to find Marlena alone and breaking down. Before they can speak, yet another knock is heard at the door which reveals Roman and Kayla. She thanks them both for coming and delivers the good news about Bo. They say what a hero John is for saving their brother's life. Marlena breaks down in tears as she says how happy they must all be. Kayla says she's calling Cat to cancel all her appointments for the day. Marlena says no as her patients need her. Kayla says she will be there for them when she's ready but needs to take this time to heal. Marlena has no clue what she would do with herself. Kayla says the person she needs to take care of is herself. Kayla has John's thinks from the hospital and Marlena wants to see them now, despite Julie's pleas. She takes the bag and opens it and asks if it's everything. Marlena says she gave John a gold coin at the hospital which is now missing. Paulina and Abe's Condo: Paulina talks about a book she read about when bad things happen to good people. She notes how people support each other during bad times is when and where you find God. Abe agrees and says they will be there for Marlena. He says John was one of his best friends. He hopes John knew how much he loved him. With that, Paulina pulls Abe into her arms. Horton Square: EJ wants to help comfort Belle by feeding her but she isn't up for seeing other people. He asks why she got them out of there so quickly and Belle reminds him that her mother was quite close to physically pushing him out. She can't imagine what he was thinking by coming over so early even before most of the family heard the news of her father's passing. EJ says he couldn't stay away as he needed to be there to support her. EJ strokes Belle's cheek as tears run down her face. She says her father only wanted her to make the right choices in life. Belle thinks John wouldn't think their relationship is the right thing to do and wants to honor him. Endings Marlena sits alone in her bedroom and looks at a picture of a past Christmas with John. She flashes back momentarily before putting the picture down, hugging herself and breaking down. Marlena looks at her phone and sees a voicemail from John. She says she has to save it as she knows he left it when he was coming home. She presses play and hears the love of her life say, 'I love you, Doc.' The Days of Our Lives June 3 episode delivered an emotional rollercoaster for fans, as Salem faced heartbreaking loss and unexpected hope. The episode centered around the devastating news of John Black's death, leaving Marlena, Brady, Belle, and the rest of his loved ones in mourning. At the same time, the surprising recovery of Bo Brady brought a rare moment of joy. Kristen wakes up early at the DiMera mansion and finds EJ still working on his hospital plans. She reminds him that he needs to follow through on his promise to bring her mother home. EJ agrees if Kristen holds up her end of their deal. Suddenly, Rachel screams from her room. Kristen rushes to comfort her daughter, who had a nightmare about Grandpa John dying. Kristen reassures her that John is feeling better and they may be able to visit him after school. After settling Rachel, Kristen texts Brady, saying she needs to speak to him about their daughter. Meanwhile, Marlena is seen lying in bed, lost in thought, remembering her last moments with John at the hospital. In the living room, Belle finds Brady already awake. Before she can check on their father, Brady gently tells her that John has passed away. Belle breaks down in tears and hugs Marlena when she enters the room. 'If you need to go, it's okay,' she softly whispers to her husband as she climbs into bed with John and nestles up beside him. News of John's death begins to spread around Salem. Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) arrives at the pub to share the information with Roman (Josh Taylor). 'John… he died last night,' she tells her brother. READ THIS: Here's what else is coming up on DAYS this week. Back at the penthouse, Marlena receives plenty of love and support from her children. Alone with Eric (Greg Vaughan), she announces, 'There's never enough time is there, when someone is your everything.' A sobbing Belle (Martha Madison) arrives and runs into Marlena's arms. 'Mom,' she sobs. As Marlena embraces her daughter, Brady (Eric Martsolf) looks on with tears in his eyes. Ultimately, Marlena gathers her strength and prepares to do what she has to do – move on. 'The one thing that hasn't changed is my love for you,' he declares to Hope. Later, while bonding with Hope, Shawn, and Ciara, Bo takes in the special moment. 'We're so lucky to have this amazing family,' he says. Speaking of family, Ciara has a couple of new members to introduce to her father. After all, she's now the mother of two. Days of Our Lives Recap: Hope and John Work Together to Give Bo a Chance at Survival
On today's Days of Our Lives recap: University Hospital – Kayla's Office: Marlena arrives and Kayla asks why she isn't home with John. Marlena says he isn't back yet. Marlena says John made a pit stop to help gain the drug to help save Bo. Kayla explains the entire situation and why they are simply trying to get a singular dose. She apologizes for the delay in John's return, but Marlena understands as she and John have the rest of their lives together. They both understand how their respective husbands have considered Bo a brother to them both. Flashback: Bo telling his sister she can depend on him for anything. In real-time, Kayla notes how many times Bo, John and Steve have stepped up to save their lives and provide the foundation for their families. Kayla thinks they are both so lucky to have them return and worries Bo won't be able to do so this time. Kayla encourages Marlena to head home to get some sleep but she's not willing to leave. She says she was so excited to see her husband come home. Kayla is certain John will get his mission accomplished and come home to the woman he loves. Hospital (unclear on location): Hope is at Bo's bedside, strokes his face, kisses him on the lips and wishes him a happy anniversary. Flashback to one of Bo and Hope's weddings and their amazing vows… In real-time, she says it seems like yesterday they had their adventures and wishes they could do it all over again. Just then, Ciara Alice enters and embraces her mother. Hope says Shawn Douglas will be their soon but makes no mention of Chelsea. They both admit how scared they are. Hope says the priest gave Bo his last right as but she thinks he's hanging on to give his family a chance to return. Ciara says Ben is at the hotel with the kids. Hope asks Ciara to sit with her father for a while so she can go elsewhere. Ciara begins to cry as she sits next to her father and says how strange it feels to see him in such a sedentary state. She would give anything to fix her father so they could get on their motorcycles or their boats and take on new adventures. She explains how Ben is a great father to Bo and Addie and how he makes her feel safe and loved. Flashback to Bo telling his daughter to hold on to her necklace and remember how much her parents love her (C'mon, Lauren Boles!!!). Ciara says they will be together no matter what. Afterwards, we see Bo walking in Horton Square, and he sees Tom and Alice's plaque. He has no idea with the hell he is doing there. Back at the hospital, Ciara Alice talks with Bo about all of his children. She says she didn't always do a great job of living up to her middle name. Ciara wishes she had realized sooner how blessed she was to be his daughter and to be a Brady. In Bo's mind, Bo wanders around and looks through the window of the pub. He sees Kayla and Steve eating and enters. Bo hears Steve and Kayla talking about him and then realizes they can't hear or see him. Suddenly, he is back outside and locked out of the restaurant. In real-time, Bo's monitors begin to go haywire and Ciara calls for help. She goes to his side and breaks down, begging her father to stay with them. The doctor stabilizes Bo and Ciara wonders where her mother could be. Random Alley: John arrives, and Steve introduces him to Dr Russell as their savior (the 'that's a fact' of it all killed me). Steve explains John is an expert as this kind of thing and insisted on showing up to help them. They discuss how they need to be ready for whatever comes next. Steve says the security system has a two-part security system, John can cover one part… and Hope enters saying she can cover the other. Hope cuts the wires which unlocks the doors. She tells Dr Russell to come with her and help locate the drug. Shawn Douglas is worried he will never get to say goodbye to his father. Steve knows he blames himself for his father's condition. That being said, he is counting on Bo to hold on and pull through. Warehouse: Hope, John, and Dr Russell enter and a person on the floor (Asher?) begins to rouse from an unconscious state. Dr Russell spots the Sepsis drug just as Asher jumps up and attacks Dr Russell. Hope grabs the drug as Asher wrestles with the good doctor and the room begins to fill with smoke. Asher, who seems to be high, pulls a knife and says he's going to kill them. John swings into action as flames begin to rise. Hope gets Dr Russell out and tries to go back in but the fire has engulfed the doorway. The fire fighters have now arrived and Steve and Hope are trying desperately to get to John but are not allowed. They tell the group of four they have found a body. The medics bring John out on a gurney and he is still alive. Dr Russell wants to take a look but is told to stand down. The medic indicates John is badly burned as the suit didn't protect him. Hope and Steve tell John he's going to pull through like he always does. Shawn Douglas looks down at John's open hand and realizes he secured one vile of the sepsis drug. He gives it to Hope and tells her to go save Bo. Horton House: Julie calls Hope and leaves her a message to wish her a happy anniversary. Later, Julie is pacing the floor looking at a picture of Bo and Hope. She flashes back to an earlier, happier time. She pulls down a picture of Doug and asks him to help Bo in anyway he can. University Hospital – Kayla's Office: Kayla takes a call from Shawn Douglas and tells Marlena there's been an explosion. She says John has been badly hurt. University Hospital – Bo's Room: Shawn Douglas and Hope arrive to tell Ciara they secured the drug for Bo. They think it's the miracle they've been waiting for. Hope sits by Bo's side and tells him to fight. University Hospital – Lobby: Steve tells Dr Russell the man who attacked him is dead. He says John not only saved Dr Russell's life but also his life's work. Steve hands him vibes of the drug saying John protected them with his body. He tells the good doctor to continue his work because John put his life on the line to save his important drug. With that, Steve takes a seat and breaks down. University Hospital – John's Room: Marlena and Kayla are at John's bedside. Kayla says John inhaled a lot of smoke and has 3rd degree burns over 30% of his body. Marlena is in tears and says she called the kids who are on their way. She says she won't be leaving his side. Endings Julie takes a seat and wishes Doug a happy anniversary. She says she thinks of him every day and cherishes their love. She kisses the picture and pulls it close to her chest. Hope, Ciara and Shawn Douglas recite the Lord's prayer as the doctor administer the sepsis drug. Marlena knows John is exhausted but begs him not to leave her now. Steve enters and stands by Marlena's side. He says Stefano may have called himself the phoenix but had nothing on John Black. We now flashback to John's origin story, many of his identities and life-threatening adventures. With each heartbeat, we see a different flashback scene. In real-time, John whispers, 'I love you, Doc' to Marlena. As soon as he elicits the sentiment, the heart monitor flatlines. Kayla returns and says he's coding.
