Gangland clash plays out on Panchkula streets, kabaddi star shot dead

1 2 3 Panchkula: In a chilling display of gangland violence, Sonu Nolta, a 32-year-old national kabaddi player, was gunned down in a brutal ambush outside Cosmo Mall in Amravati on Thursday night. The attack, which unfolded around 10:30 pm, is believed to have been orchestrated by Anmol Bishnoi, brother of notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi , in what police describe as a fallout of long-standing personal enmity. Nolta, a resident of Nolta village in Kalka, had just finished watching a movie with his friend Nitin alias Prince, 26, and two women. As they sat in their Scorpio SUV, a Maruti Swift pulled up beside them. Without warning, a barrage of bullets, 15 rounds in total, was unleashed. Seven bullets struck Nolta, hitting his back, chest, head, and hand, killing him instantly. Prince, a resident of Mallah village in Pinjore, was shot in the thigh. He was rushed to Sector 6 civil hospital, then referred to PGI Chandigarh due to the severity of his injuries. Doctors said he is out of danger. The crime scene was littered with 12 bullet shells, and forensic teams recovered four more during their investigation. DCP Shrishti Gupta, along with teams from crime branch Sector 19 and 26, arrived at the scene to oversee the probe. What followed was a brazen digital confession. Within 20 minutes of the murder, a man identified as Piyush Pinjori uploaded a video to Instagram, claiming responsibility. In the video, he declared: "Ram Ram brothers. This is the crime... we committed it. If anyone else has a problem, he can tell us." Piyush, once a close friend of Sonu, had reportedly fallen out with him over personal disputes. Sources say the two were seen together just two days before the murder, possibly in a final, failed attempt at reconciliation. He was allegedly accompanied by Ankush, who was seen brandishing a pistol in a separate viral video. Police have registered a case under BNS and Arms Act and have formed three special teams to track down the accused. PACHKULA: A 32-year-old national kabaddi player was shot dead outside Cosmo Mall in Punjab late Thursday night, in what police suspect was a gang-linked targeted killing. The victim, Sonu Nolta, a native of Nolta village in Kalka near Panchkula, was attacked while sitting in his Mahindra Scorpio along with a friend and two women after watching a film. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The incident occurred around 10.30pm when assailants in a Maruti Swift opened fire, discharging at least 15 rounds. Police said Nolta was struck by seven bullets, including wounds to the head, chest, back and hand. He was declared dead on arrival at Sector-6 Civil Hospital in Panchkula. His friend, Prince (26), a resident of Mallah village in Pinjore, was hit in the thigh. He was later shifted to PGI Chandigarh due to his critical condition. Officers from the local police, Crime Branch teams from Sector-19 and Sector-26, as well as DCP Panchkula Shrishti Gupta, visited the crime scene. A forensic team collected evidence, including four bullet shells recovered from the location. The attack was reportedly captured on nearby CCTV footage, though police have not yet released the video. Shortly after the murder, a man named Piyush Pinjori, believed to be from Pinjore, uploaded a video to Instagram in which he claimed responsibility for the killing. A second man, identified as Ankuna, was also seen brandishing a pistol in another video claiming involvement in the attack. Police sources suggest the killing may have been carried out at the behest of Anmol Bishnoi, brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Though not officially confirmed by police, the Bishnoi gang has previously been linked to high-profile targeted killings. Nolta, known for organising events and parties, reportedly had a falling out with Piyush in recent months, although the exact motive remains under investigation. An autopsy is expected to be conducted on Friday. Police say a manhunt is underway to track down the attackers, who fled in the Swift car.

Car rams into bike on Dwarka Expressway, badminton coach flung into air, dies

Gurgaon: A 25-year-old badminton coach died after a speeding car hit his motorcycle on Dwarka Expressway near Daulatabad on Sunday. Police said the accused fled the spot and efforts are on to trace the car. The victim has been identified as Vinod Thakran, a resident of Gadaipur, Pataudi. According to his elder brother Sandip, Thakran was returning home from his academy around 5.30 pm. "When he reached near pillar 104 on Dwarka Expressway on his R15 bike (HR76J3727), a white Maruti Swift suddenly took a turn without turning on indicator. My brother's bike rammed into the car, then hit a drum on the road. He was thrown a distance from the bike," Sandip told the police. Onlookers alerted the police control room. The Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) team reached the spot and took Thakran to the Sector 10 civil hospital in a private ambulance, where doctors declared him brought dead. Police said a case has been registered at Rajendra Park police station against an unidentified person under sections 125 (acts endangering life or personal safety through rash or negligent behaviour) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of BNS. Investigation is underway to identify the vehicle and the driver involved in the incident.

2 killed, child, pregnant woman injured as drunk teen crashes car into Delhi slum

Two men were killed and two others, including a pregnant woman and a five-year-old boy, were in critical condition after a 19-year-old man, allegedly drinking and driving, first hit a cyclist and then rammed his speeding car into a slum dwelling along Pankha Road in Janakpuri in the early hours of Thursday, police officers said. The suspect, Harsh Sehrawat, a resident of Pochanpur in southwest Delhi, was nabbed from the spot by local residents and handed over to the police. He was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash, officers said. The deceased were identified as Aseem Ansari, 45, and Phool Singh, 35. Singh's wife, Soni Devi, 32, who is six months' pregnant, their five-year-old nephew Vishal Kumar are currently undergoing treatment. A third person, Kuldeep (goes by single name), 28, sustained minor injuries and was discharged after treatment. Preliminary investigation revealed that Phool Singh hailed from Sitapur district in Uttar Pradesh and lived in a makeshift dwelling near the crash site with his extended family, including his parents, wife, nephew Vishal, sons Viraj and Rishi, and daughters Mahima and Raunak. He worked with his father, Lallu Ram, as a blacksmith, making iron tools. Ansari, the second victim, was a native of Sitamarhi in Bihar and lived with his wife Khadeeja, three daughters, and 13-year-old son Ghulam in Durga Park. He worked as a helper at a number plate shop in Mayapuri market. 'He was returning home after working overtime at the shop when he was hit by the speeding car,' said a police officer associated with the case, requesting anonymity. 'The others, the injured ones, were asleep in their slum dwelling when the car veered off the road and crashed into them.' According to DCP Veer, Sehrawat was driving a grey-coloured Maruti Swift and was returning from Gurugram with a friend. 'He first hit the bicycle on which Ansari was riding. Ansari was flung onto the car's bonnet and dragged for nearly 250 metres before the vehicle slammed into the slum dwellings, crushing Phool Singh who was asleep near the entrance,' the officer said. 'Vishal was sleeping beside Singh, followed by Soni. That's why they sustained injuries as well,' he added. After the car stopped, slum dwellers and locals caught hold of Sehrawat who was allegedly heavily drunk at the time of the incident. They immediately alerted police and handed him over to them. 'He admitted to partying in Gurugram earlier that night and said he was returning with a friend,' the officer said. Police have registered a case under sections of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, rash and negligent driving, and causing hurt by endangering life or personal safety under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act. Police said that Sehrawat finished his schooling recently and his father is a school van driver. Phool Singh's father, Lallu Ram, 65, said the family was asleep when the car tore through their slum. 'I was sleeping at the far end. The car came in so fast. We had to lift it up to rescue my son, daughter-in-law and grandson. The vehicle only stopped because it hit debris near the side. If not, more lives would've been lost,' he said. Ram also said Soni, who was six months pregnant, lost her unborn child. 'Doctors told us the baby couldn't be saved. It's heartbreaking. We were waiting for the new arrival,' he said. Police have yet to confirm the loss of the unborn child. Ansari's son Ghulam, 13, said his father was the sole breadwinner of their family. 'He worked hard for us. My siblings and I go to school — he made sure we did. Now I don't know what we'll do,' he said, holding back tears. The family said it wasn't uncommon for Ansari to return late from work, as he often took on extra hours to earn more. 'He always worked overtime so we wouldn't go without money,' Ghulam added.

NAVI MUMBAI: A woman and a teenage girl, related to each other, died in a massive pile-up on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway on Saturday, when a speeding trailer lost control and caused six other vehicles to collide. The accident – involving the trailer, four cars and two buses – took place at 4:00pm near Khopoli. The deceased were Ashwini Akshay Haldankar, 30, and Shreya Santosh Autade, 17, both residents of Ulhasnagar. They were returning from Kolhapur with five other family members in a Maruti Swift car when the accident occurred. According to preliminary police reports, the trailer driver lost control over his vehicle, hit the divider, and triggered a chain collision involving several vehicles behind him. 'The Swift, sandwiched between the trailer and a bus, was crushed, resulting in the two fatalities,' said Deputy Superintendent of Police Vikram Kadam of the Khalapur division. 'We have booked the trailer driver for the accident and are conducting medical tests.' The driver of the Swift, Akshay Haldankar, is in stable condition in Jakhotia Hospital in Khopoli. Four other injured passengers, including two young children, have been admitted to MGM Hospital in Panvel. One passenger is said to be in critical condition. The injured include Sarika Autade, 38, a resident of Ghatkopar; Sarika Jadhav, 9; Avnish Jadhav, 3; and Vasudha V Jadhav from Kolhapur. 'Shreya and her mother Sarika Autade had come to stay at my place for the holidays in Kolhapur. Sarika is my wife Vasudha's elder sister. They were returning to Mumbai as Shreya had to take admission for Class XI. She had secured 95% in the tenth standard board exam and wanted to become a doctor,' said Vasudha's husband, Vijay Jadhav, 41. 'Sarika and Avnish are my kids and their condition is stable. However, my sister-in-law Sarika was stated by the doctors at MGM to have injured her hips. My wife is being given oxygen to help her breathe. The car was being driven by Akshay Haldankar, a relative of mine, and he has suffered minor head injuries. He was to drop off his wife and daughter and return to Kolhapur,' added Jadhav.
