Pascal's fame stretches Down Under for Fantastic Four

Stars of the upcoming Fantastic Four film have graced Australian shores for its local launch. Actor Pedro Pascal, who plays the stretchy superhero Reed Richards, headlined the promotional event in Sydney for Fantastic Four: First Steps - the third silver-screen incarnation of the comic-book series and first in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Pascal, star of The Mandalorian and The Last of Us, makes his first appearance leading a superhero movie as his star continues to rise. The first Fantastic Four film in 2005 and its 2007 sequel were commercially successful but received a mixed critical reception, before a 2015 reboot panned by audiences and critics alike. This latest iteration, from TV mini-series WandaVision director Matt Shakman, stars Pascal as Richards - also known as Mister Fantastic - who can stretch any part of his body at will to superhuman lengths. The others in the titular quartet stepping out in Sydney are Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm/Invisible Woman), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm/The Thing) and Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm/Human Torch). Kirby shares an interesting trait with her on-screen persona, with both actor and character sporting baby bumps. In the film, the Four "must defend earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner)". The action happens on parallel planet Earth-828 and features elements of 1960s culture and futuristic technology. The return of the Fantastic Four to the silver screen will lead into the 2026 release of the next Avengers film, Avengers: Doomsday, the film's producer and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige said in June. Fantastic Four: First Steps will be released in Australian cinemas on July 24. Stars of the upcoming Fantastic Four film have graced Australian shores for its local launch. Chris Hemsworth Drops Tease About Avengers: Doomsday, And Seemingly Confirms One Part Of Thor's Story Won't Be Included

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a behemoth force in the entertainment world, one constantly putting out new content in theaters and streaming with a Disney+ subscription. Without a doubt the most anticipated upcoming Marvel movies are the next two Avengers movies, which will be directed by The Russo Brothers. Chris Hemsworth recently spoke about filming the former, and may have revealed that one beloved location won't be included in the blockbuster. What we know about Avengers: Doomsday is super limited, but it's going to feature a number of superhero teams. The Doomsday cast live stream confirmed Hemsworth is back as Thor, and the hulking actor recently spoke to Scottish Daily Express, and revealed that production seemingly isn't going to return to the country to film sequences for New Asgard. As he put it: Filming The Avengers in Scotland was a really cool experience. It doesn't look like we are coming back for Doomsday. But I'd love to not only visit there again, but to film and do more work in the country. The people are amazing. There you have it. Sounds like the Asgardians' home on Earth isn't going to factor into the mysterious action of Doomsday. This was a location that was introduced in Avengers: Endgame, since Asgard was destroyed in Thor: Ragnarok. It came back up in Love and Thunder, but it sounds like we won't see this particular setting in the next big Avengers movie. Disney+: from $9.99 a month w/ ad-supported planThe MCU's streaming home is on Disney+. Plans start at $9.99 a month for its new ad-supported plan. Go ad-free and pay $15.99 a month or save 16% and pre-pay $159.99 for a Deal Later in that same interview, the 41 year-old actor spoke more about what it was like filming in Scotland, and his desire to return for future projects. As he put it: There is something majestic about the Highlands, I'd love to do another movie there one day. It's just a place made for an iconic battle scene. The backdrop is just stunning. Well now I've got FOMO. Because while Scotland apparently isn't being used to film Avengers: Doomsday, the country seems like a perfect place to set big action sequences. If it doesn't happen in his next appearances as Thor, perhaps Hemsworth can bring other franchises like Extraction (which is streaming with a Netflix subscription) to the Highlands. Fingers crossed. Fans who spent years watching the Marvel movies in order have seen how the Asgardians lost their planet... and then faced even more losses at the hands of Thanos in Infinity War. They'e been through a lot, although they got a new King with Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie. Although since she's not listed in the Doomsday cast list, maybe that storyline won't come into play for the blockbuster. All will be revealed when Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18th, 2026. But first up is The Fantastic Four: First Steps on July 25th as part of the 2025 movie release list.

Why Is Julia Garner Facing Backlash For Playing Silver Surfer In Fantastic Four Film

Last Updated: Reacting to the backlash, Julia Garner said, "I'm just going to still do my job." Ever since Julia Garner was revealed as the Silver Surfer in the upcoming movie, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, she has been at the receiving end of severe backlash. The main reason behind such criticism is that the actress is playing the female version of the iconic Marvel character. The Silver Surfer made its debut on the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the 2007 film Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Back then, the character was portrayed as a male, with actor Doug Jones playing it on the screen and Laurence Fishburne voicing it. And as Marvel has now changed Silver Surfer into a female in the new Fantastic Four film, the actress, as well as the makers, have been receiving backlash. Notably, Julia is not even playing the same version. Instead, she is playing Shalla-Bal, a female Silver Surfer, who does exist in the Marvel comics. It is not a made-up version, but a real comic book character, who was first seen in The Silver Surfer #1 in 1968, a female reiteration of Norrin Radd. Despite the accuracy, many fans were upset because they expected the original male version of the character. Taking to X, disappointed Marvel fans expressed their views on a female Silver Surfer. 'No. She is a terrible character. They didn't wanna a male herald. Fine. Pick a good female one. They couldn't even do that," said one fan. Another added, 'Nobody wants to see the most powerful hero in The marvel universe as a female. We want the OG surfer ripping s–t up and flying at light speed. The fact that Pedro Pascal is Mr. Fantastic tells you everything you need to know about this woke garbage." But not everyone was against Julia Garner's characters. Some came out in her support, praising her acting, with some even sharing how the female Silver Surfer came into being. One fan wrote, 'Gender swap means they changed the gender of a character. Shalla Ball is a totally original character, Norrin Radd's wife. There's more than 1 Silver Surfer in the comics." Julia Garner responds to criticism over the gender-swapped Silver Surfer role.'I'm just going to still do my job… and also it's Shalla-Bal so it's different… I was just happy that people are resonating with it and just like any other project, So I'm grateful to be at this… — MCU Film News (@MCUFilmNews) July 11, 2025 'People need to stop worrying about 'why' they chose to take this route and just accept it. The only thing you should be concerned about is whether or not the movie is good. Hope for it to be good because you want a good movie, right? You do not have creative control. Get over that part," a fan schooled those criticising. Meanwhile, the 31-year-old actress, who is set to play the character, addressed the criticism during the London premiere of the new Fantastic Four film. She told BBC, 'Oh, well, you know. I said, 'I'm just going to still do my job." Julia also reminded fans that she is playing Shalla-Bal, not Norrin Radd, who is the original Silver Surfer from the comics. 'Also, it's Shalla-Bal, so it's different," she mentioned. Julia's character was first seen in The Silver Surfer #1 in 1968, a female reiteration of Norrin Radd. The Fantastic Four: First Steps is releasing in theatres on July 25. Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive. A-List Actor Confirmed To Be Joining MCU In Upcoming Marvel Sequel

Many stars have been eager to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe if they haven't already been involved with the franchise. After all, the MCU is one of the biggest blockbuster franchises to date. However, there are quite a few A-list stars that have yet to be involved, though it looks like one beloved actor will be joining the MCU with an upcoming sequel. With so many roles to choose from based on the iconic comics that have inspired all of the MCU's films and shows, there seems to be an endless list of parts to choose from. As far as this actor becoming involved goes, it's still unknown who they might be playing, but having them tied to one of the franchise's most anticipated sequels is certainly exciting. It just so happens that this sequel is none other than Black Panther 3 , and according to director Ryan Coogler on the 7pm in Brooklyn podcast via E! Online, he confirmed 'there's no fiction out there about that' regarding the rumor that the aforementioned A-list star was set to have a role in the Black Panther follow-up. While Coogler couldn't reveal many details beyond that, he basically confirmed that actor Denzel Washington is set to have a role in Black Panther 3 . Without further discussing what part Washington could play in the film, Coogler did emphasize just how much he loves working with him: 'Denzel is family at this point,' Coogler continued. 'I've been trying to work with him since day one. I think he's the greatest living actor. In terms of what he means to our culture? Forget about it, man.' Funnily enough, Washington previously hinted that he'd have a part in the film, which Coogler also admitted in the interview was 'a big F**k With It,' a reference to his joke during the podcast that Washington's comments were a game of true or false called ' F**k With It or F**k Outta Here .' Essentially, now we know the involvement of this MCU actor in the Black Panther sequel is true. Now we'll just have to see who exactly Denzel Washington plays in Black Panther 3 or any other details regarding the film that has yet to receive an official spot on Marvel's release schedule. Hopefully, however, it comes together soon – especially with Ryan Coogler once again helming the project as director.
