IMAX Format Will Make Galactus Feel Even More Terrifying in THE FANTASTIC FOUR

When The Fantastic Four: First Steps lands in theaters on July 25, it won't just mark the debut of Marvel's First Family in the new MCU, it'll also deliver a cosmic heavyweight like never before, with Galactus. And if the villain's reputation as a planet-eating force of nature didn't already make him intimidating, director Matt Shakman is making sure the visuals will do the rest. In a new behind-the-scenes IMAX featurette, Shakman teased a unique visual treat: 'We designed the movie to be entirely in IMAX. You're going to space, but also you're in Manhattan, which is a vertical city, and we captured that scale. 'Then, you have the largest thing in the universe, and the world adjusts [makes hand gesture while video's aspect ratio changes]. This movie celebrates the IMAX format.' So yes, when Galactus arrives, you'll be able to experience the terrifying cosmic threat into an overwhelming presence that towers over everything else in the frame. Set in a 1960s-style retro-futuristic version of New York and beyond, the film stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm. Julia Garner plays the Silver Surfer—though this time around, it's the Shalla-Bal version of the character—and Ralph Ineson brings his gravel-voiced gravitas to Galactus. The official synopsis reads: 'Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces Marvel's First Family—Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) as they face their most daunting challenge yet. 'Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner).' And if Galactus' plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren't bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal. Also joining the ensemble are Paul Walter Hauser, Natasha Lyonne, and Sarah Niles each in still-undisclosed roles, which is just enough mystery to keep MCU fans speculating. The Fantastic Four: First Steps is aiming to be more than just an origin story, it's shaping up to be a full-on visual spectacle that takes the MCU cosmic in a whole new way. See it in IMAX on July 25 if you want to feel just how small we really are.

Killed off in X-Men franchise, the Superman actor is now soaring in the DC universe

Marvel Studios definitely have their backs up after the positive reactions received by James Gunn's latest film, Superman. The film's box office collection is also growing exponentially by the day. One of the key takeaways from the film was the introduction of the Justice Gang, and out of the three superheroes, Mister Terrific has left a mark. Played by Edi Gathegi, the character added serious firepower to the film, and it is quite interesting to know that DC's latest winning stead was once in a competing stable and was part of the X-Men. Everyone is wondering, did Marvel lose out on a winner? Back in 2011, the X-Men franchise was owned by 20th Century Studios, and they came out with the film X-Men: First Class, which followed the journey of a young Charles Xavier and Magneto trying to create a mutant super team in order to deal with the repercussions of coming out to the world about their abilities. One of the young recruits was a mutant named Darwin (played by Edi), and anyone who is familiar with the comics knows about the incredible shape-shifting capabilities he possessed. What came as a surprise was that he was killed in the movie by Sebastian Shaw, and fans never got the chance to see the character develop. Interestingly, he had very similar powers to Metamorpho, who appears in Gunn's Superman, but obviously did not have a happy ending. ALSO READ: Superman ending explained: What it means for new DCU movies and Peacemaker season 2 Edi Gathegi recently revealed to THR that he had expressed concerns about the script to his agent and how he felt that killing the only male Black character halfway into X-Men: First Class was a cliche thing to do. He said, 'So I read the script, and I called my agents to say, 'Hey, listen, I have a problem with the fact that this character is the only Black character in the film aside from Zoë Kravitz's character. I am also the only mutant who meets an untimely demise halfway through the film.' It was 2009 at the time, and I was like, 'Killing the Black guy first is so played out. I can't do this.'' Edi added that he was told that the character's untimely death was part of a larger plan and he would return in the later films in the franchise, but nothing of the sort ever happened, which the actor expressed came as a 'surprise' to him. Now all these years later, Edi has made peace with the studios' decision and is currently bearing the fruits of his incredible portrayal of Mr Terrific. Fighting alongside Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion) and Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced) as the Justice Gang, Edi stole the show with his sarcastic quips, entertaining fight sequences and an air of domination. He added, 'With X-Men, the message that I received as an actor and as a man of colour in this world is you can be the most powerful mutant in the world, and they'll never let you reach your full potential. Whereas with Mister Terrific in Superman, the message that I'm receiving is you can be one of the most intelligent characters in the universe, and you can make a difference. You can help save the world. It's a different level of conversation.'

Pascal's fame stretches Down Under for Fantastic Four

Stars of the upcoming Fantastic Four film have graced Australian shores for its local launch. Actor Pedro Pascal, who plays the stretchy superhero Reed Richards, headlined the promotional event in Sydney for Fantastic Four: First Steps - the third silver-screen incarnation of the comic-book series and first in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Pascal, star of The Mandalorian and The Last of Us, makes his first appearance leading a superhero movie as his star continues to rise. The first Fantastic Four film in 2005 and its 2007 sequel were commercially successful but received a mixed critical reception, before a 2015 reboot panned by audiences and critics alike. This latest iteration, from TV mini-series WandaVision director Matt Shakman, stars Pascal as Richards - also known as Mister Fantastic - who can stretch any part of his body at will to superhuman lengths. The others in the titular quartet stepping out in Sydney are Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm/Invisible Woman), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm/The Thing) and Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm/Human Torch). Kirby shares an interesting trait with her on-screen persona, with both actor and character sporting baby bumps. In the film, the Four "must defend earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner)". The action happens on parallel planet Earth-828 and features elements of 1960s culture and futuristic technology. The return of the Fantastic Four to the silver screen will lead into the 2026 release of the next Avengers film, Avengers: Doomsday, the film's producer and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige said in June. Elle Fanning Reportedly in the Running for Major X-MEN Role in the MCU — GeekTyrant

The X-Men are coming, and Marvel fans are already dissecting every rumor, theory, and casting hint. While the old Fox-era team is expected to make a multiversal splash in Avengers: Doomsday , Marvel Studios is clearly building toward its own definitive version of the X-Men , and a familiar name is reportedly back in the mix. According to entertainment insider Jeff Sneider on The Hot Mic podcast with John Rocha, Elle Fanning is once again being considered for a major role in the MCU's future X-Men lineup. Specifically, she's reportedly being eyed for Jean Grey, one of the most iconic and complex characters in the mutant canon. Sneider mentioned that Fanning is on the shortlist alongside Margaret Qualley and Daisy Edgar-Jones, saying the Predator: Badlands actress is 'back on the list' for Jean with Marvel's new class of mutants. Fanning's potential connection to the role isn't new. She was previously in the running for X-Men: Apocalypse before the Disney-Fox merger, a part that ultimately went to Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner. The reason? Apparently, it came down to Instagram followers. Fanning said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast in May 2023: 'I did try out for…I'm not going to say what it was, but I didn't get a part once for something big because – it might not have just been this reason, but this was the feedback that I heard – was because I didn't have enough Instagram followers at the time.' 'So that was a little like…I firmly don't believe in not getting a part [for that]. It was for a bigger thing, a franchise thing.' Turner later confirmed that situation in her own words: 'I auditioned for a project and it was between me and another girl who is a far better actress than I am, far better, but I had the followers, so I got the job. It's not right, but it is part of the movie industry now.' With Marvel Studios gearing up for what's being unofficially called the 'Mutant Saga,' it looks like the X-Men are going to be a key part of the next chapter after Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars . Kevin Feige has teased a long-term roadmap for the mutants, saying Marvel is laying out a 10-year plan, much like it did with the Infinity Saga. We're still in rumor territory here, but with Death Stranding 2 and a steady stream of acclaimed performances under her belt, Fanning is riding a new wave of visibility and critical respect. If she does land the role of Jean Grey, it would mark a poetic return to a part she was once passed over for, this time on talent alone.
