Ahly go top Egyptian league after 4-2 win over Masry - Egyptian Football

Ahly climbed to the top of the Egyptian Premier League with a 4-2 victory over Masry at Alexandria's Borg El-Arab Stadium on Thursday, with three matches remaining in the season. The win took Ahly to 49 points, two ahead of title rivals Pyramids FC, who will have a chance to reclaim top spot when they face NBE Club on Friday. Masry took an early lead in the sixth minute when forward Salah Mohsen headed in a cross from Karim El-Eraki. Despite dominating possession, Ahly initially struggled to break down Masry's defence and failed to test goalkeeper Mahmoud Gad. Ahly eventually equalized in the 35th minute when Emam Ashour slotted home from a Wessam Abou Ali pass. Two minutes later, Abou Ali thought he had given Ahly the lead, but his effort was disallowed following a VAR review. The Red Devils went ahead five minutes before halftime after Gad fumbled an Achraf Bencharki cross, allowing Taher Mohamed to tap in from close range. Ahly extended their lead early in the second half when Gad misjudged a free kick, moving the wrong way as Abou Ali's effort found the net in the other direction. After winning the spot-kick, Ashour added his second goal of the night from the penalty spot in the 79th minute. It marked his 11th league goal of the season, putting him atop the league's scoring chart. Masry grabbed a late consolation through substitute Fakhreddine Ben Youssef, who scored with a well-placed header. Ahly next face Ceramica Cleopatra on Tuesday. Preview: Ahly seek to maintain winning rhythm against Masry in tough league clash - Egyptian Football

Defending champions Ahly will be desperate for a win on Thursday when they face Masry in a league game at Alexandria's Borg El-Arab Stadium, as the Red Devils cannot afford to drop any points in their tight title race with Pyramids FC Ahly currently sit second in the table with 46 points, just one point behind leaders Pyramids FC, who handed the Red Devils a boost by losing to Pharco FC on Sunday. Pyramids FC will also face a tough challenge on Friday when they visit Ceramica Cleopatra. Ahly will be without the support of their fans, after the competitions committee sanctioned the club to play two matches behind closed doors—a significant blow during this crucial period of the season. Nevertheless, Ahly capitalized on Pyramids' stumble by routing Harras El-Hodoud 5–0, narrowing the gap to just one point. The match featured a strong performance from the team under interim coach Emad El-Nahass, who took over from Swiss manager Marcel Koller last month. El-Nahass's debut was far from easy, as Ahly edged Petrojet 3–2 in a thrilling encounter before the dominant victory over Harras El-Hodoud. However, Masry present a tougher challenge than Ahly's previous two opponents. Even without their Algerian star Abderrahim Deghmoum, the Port Said-based team remains strong with players like Mahmoud Hamada, Salah Mohsen, and Mido Gaber. 'Our target is to maintain our winning rhythm in this difficult league campaign,' Ahly interim coach Emad El-Nahass told reporters. El-Nahass has a full squad available, with the exception of veteran defender Rami Rabia, who is likely to miss the game due to an injury sustained in the win over Harras El-Hodoud. On the other side, Masry are led by Tunisian coach Anis Boujelbene, a former Ahly midfielder during the early 2000s. Masry have already held both Pyramids FC and Zamalek to goalless draws in the playoffs and are hoping to secure another positive result against another title contender. Zamalek exit Confederation Cup after losing at home to Stellenbosch - Egyptian Football

Defending champions Zamalek were stunned 1-0 at Cairo Stadium by unknown South African side Stellenbosch in the second leg of the Confederation Cup quarter-finals, exiting the competition alongside compatriots Masry, who were also eliminated earlier on Wednesday. Stellenbosch forward Sihle Nduli netted the winner with ten minutes remaining, silencing the crowd and adding to the pain of the team's fans, who were already reeling from the reported departure of classy winger Ahmed 'Zizo' Sayed to archrivals Ahly. Despite their advantage from a goalless away draw last Wednesday, Zamalek failed to impress during the match, as their opponents—participating in the continental competition for the first time in the club's history—were the better side throughout the full 90 minutes. Zamalek created only two scoring chances during the game. The first came in the 30th minute when Seif Jaziri connected with Ahmed Fatouh's cross from the left flank, but he failed to place the ball well, allowing the goalkeeper to collect it easily. The second chance occurred in the early minutes of the second half, but the Tunisian striker also missed from close range, sending his shot wide. The visitors, appearing more organized and fresher on the field, punished Zamalek with a deserved goal in the 79th minute, thanks to Sihle Nduli's shot from inside the box. In response to the shock of conceding, Zamalek attempted to intensify their attacks, but their shy efforts lacked focus. As the final whistle blew, the players exited the field to angry chants from their frustrated fans. Masry knocked out of CAF Confederation Cup after penalty shootout - Egyptian Football

Egyptian side Masry were eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup after suffering a 4-1 defeat to Tanzania's Simba in a penalty shootout in the quarterfinals of the competition, following a 2-2 aggregate draw. Two first-half goals by winger Elie Mpanzu and Ugandan striker Steven Mukwala canceled out Masry's first -leg lead, sending the game into penalties. On paper, Masry held an advantage after a 2-0 home win in the first leg, but the hosts disrupted their seemingly straightforward path to the semifinals. Simba pressed forward from the beginning of the match, seeking an early goal, which wasn't too hard for the hosts. Twenty-two minutes into the first half, Mpanzu opened the scoring for the Tanzanian side, while Mukwala doubled the score ten minutes later, canceling out the deficit and sending the game into a penalty shootout. Jean Ahoua, Steven Mukwala, Kibu Denis, and Shomari Kapombe scored for Simba from the spot, while Mido Gaber and Mahmoud Hamada failed to convert their penalties. Fakhreddine Ben Youssef was the only successful scorer for Masry. In the competition's semi-finals, Simba will face the winner of the other quarterfinal between Zamalek and Stellenbosch.
