Stranger Things fan slam final series release date branding it 'worst ever seen'

Netflix announced the release dates for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things at their Tudum fan event in Los Angeles this weekend Netflix has finally unveiled the release dates for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, but what should have been an exciting moment has instead sparked a wave of backlash from fans. Show bosses announced that the final season will be rolled out in four volumes during the streamer's Tudum event at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. The rollout includes eight episodes in total. Four are slated to come out as part of Volume I on November 26. Meanwhile, three episodes will be released on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025. Then the standalone final volume will come out on December 31, New Year's Eve. ‌ ‌ Although the Duffer Brothers, who created the hit sci-fi series, described this season as "our biggest and most ambitious yet", not everyone is thrilled with the rollout process. One Stranger Things fan went viral after posting on social media saying: "This is actually the worst release schedule for a TV show that I have maybe ever seen. Pretty arrogant to assume people will be more interested in watching Stranger Things than spending time with family and friends." Others echoed their frustration, calling the festive release dates inconsiderate. Another person ranted: "It sucks so bad honestly. 'Hey, watch our show we know you love on Christmas and New Year 's Eve and don't spend time with your family, or else be spoiled!!'" A third added: "Proper attention seeking nonsense." The release strategy mirrors Netflix 's approach to other major series like Bridgerton and The Witcher, where they have also dropped episodes in multiple segments to keep the hype for the series alive. However, fans are arguing that placing the final instalments of such a beloved TV show on two of the biggest holiday dates of the year means that Netflix is prioritising marketing over family values. ‌ One person joked: "Netflix thinks we'd rather binge Stranger Things than fight over the last Christmas cookie—guess they forgot some of us actually like our families more than the Upside Down!" Another fan wrote: "New Year's Eve and Christmas Day? Pretty crazy." Despite the backlash, others defended Netflix's decision, saying that the Christmas holidays are the perfect time for families to sit down and watch Stranger Things together. The anticipation for season five is still sky-high, as fans have waited three years to see what happens next after the fourth season aired. On top of that, the show's creators have promised an action-heavy conclusion to the series, with Ross Duffer saying it will pack the narrative punch of "eight blockbuster movies". Matt Duffer added: "We think it's our most personal story. It was super intense and emotional to film — for us and for our actors. We've been making this show together for almost 10 years. There was a lot of crying. There was so much crying. The show means so much to all of us, and everyone put their hearts and souls into it." All the major cast members will return, including Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Caleb McLaughlin, Sadie Sink, and Gaten Matarazzo. Linda Hamilton is also joining the show in a mystery role.

Netflix Finally Picks 'Stranger Things' Season 5 Release Dates. Get the Full Scoop

Everyone (like me) who's been waiting nearly three years for the last season of Stranger Things has finally learned when we'll get to visit Hawkins, Indiana, and the Upside Down again. Netflix is giving fans a big holiday present and the end of this year with a three-part release of Stranger Things season 5. During Netflix's live Tudum fan event, we got all the details about the highly anticipated final season of Matt and Ross Duffer's global hit series. The three-part release of Stranger Things 5 will all come near the fall and winter holidays -- four episodes on the day before Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 26; three episodes on Christmas Day, Friday, Dec. 25; and the finale on New Year's Eve, Wednesday, Dec. 31. Three years have passed since the show's fourth season premiered on Netflix, with a nerve-jangling run of episodes that introduced Vecna -- the biggest bad of the series -- while setting the stage for an ultimate showdown between the kids of Hawkins, Indiana, and the dream-invading hell-raiser. Stranger Things 4's ending alluded to a hell-on-earth scenario looming on the horizon. The new eight-episode adventure will pick up 18 months later, in the fall of 1987. Yes, we're still in the '80s even though the cast members are full-fledged adults now. Just go with it. Last season's finale found Eleven processing the earth-shattering realization that, during her time undergoing experiments led by Papa (Matthew Modine), she inadvertently created Vecna and the Upside Down. A collection of Nightmare on Elm Street-inspired kills throughout the episodes helped to unlock the veil separating the netherworld and the real one. Thanks to Will's psychic connection to the beast, we know Vecna is going to come back bigger and badder than before. By the look of things, the whole cast is back at it for one final go-round: Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, Winona Ryder, David Harbour and Brett Gelman are all here. It's a new year for Stranger Things, and something tells me it'll be the most challenging one the gang has ever faced.

Netflix: First look at 'Stranger Things' Season 5, 'Happy Gilmore 2,' 'Frankenstein,' 'Squid Game' Season 3 and more

From new seasons of our favourite shows to new movie releases, Netflix unveiled sneak peaks of highly anticipated projects at its Tudum live event on Saturday. Hosted by Sofia Carson, the event featured Adam Sandler's Happy Gilmore 2, Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein, and the final seasons of Stranger Things and Squid Game. Additionally, we got information on the premiere date for Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, with Daniel Craig returning as Benoit Blanc. And Netflix also provided more information on One Piece Season 2. It does feel sad to be close to saying goodbye to Stranger Things, ahead of its fifth and final season, after the show had such a significant impact pop culture. The series was created by Matt and Ross Duffer, working alongside executive producer and director, Canadian Shawn Levy. Season 5 promises to dive deeper into the Upside Down, leaning into its mythology and lore, with the story beginning in the Fall of 1987. "Our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna," the official synopsis reads. "But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown." "Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding. As the anniversary of Will's disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread." The final season of Stranger Things will be released in three parts, with four episodes being premiering on Nov. 26, then three episodes on Christmas day, with the finale landing on Netflix Dec. 31. After almost 30 years, the Happy Gilmore story continues with the sequel on July 25. In addition to Adam Sandler, the cast includes Julie Bowen, Ben Stiller, and Christopher McDonald and brand-new co-star Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio (aka Bad Bunny), Blake Clark and Sandler's daughters Sadie and Sunny. Guillermo del Toro's upcoming movie Frankenstein is easily one of the most highly anticipated films of the year, and a particular passion project for the Oscar-winning director. Mary Shelley's classic story, Oscar Isaac (Ex Machina, Inside Llewyn Davis), Jacob Elordi (Saltburn, Priscilla), and Mia Goth (X, Emma) make up the impressive core cast for this adaptation. The film will be released in November. We've almost reached the final round of Squid Game, with the show coming to an end when Season 3 is released on June 27. Beginning right after the devastating Season 2 finale, Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) is at his "lowest point yet" and is forced to make high stakes decisions, while experiencing an overwhelming feeling of despair in even deadlier games. Meanwhile, In-ho resumes is position as Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), who welcomes "mysterious VIPs" as his brother, Jun-ho (Wi Ha-jun), continues his search for the island. Netflix has released the first six minutes of Wednesday Season 2, starring Jenna Ortega. The season will be released in two parts, first on Aug. 6 and then on Sept. 3. It's Wednesday Addams' second year at Nevermore Academy, and Tim Burton is bringing the Addams family to the school. When Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez) arrives he wants to fit in, but it's hard to control his electrokinesis, making him an outcast. Wednesday's complicated relationship with her mother Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) will be elevated, while we also get to see Morticia's mother, Hester Frump, who Wednesday calls Grandmama. Lady Gaga is also joining the Wednesday cast as a guest star. She plays Rosaline Rotwood, a legendary Nevermore teacher. "Nothing is what it seems in Season 2," creator Miles Millar told Tudum. "Wednesday goes into this season thinking she knows Nevermore. It's the first time she's returned to a school willingly." "But as soon as she gets back, nothing happens that she's expecting. She thinks she's going to be in control, that she knows where all the bodies are buried, and she doesn't." Promising to be Benoit Blanc's (Daniel Craig) most dangerous case yet, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery is the third film in the franchise from writer-director Rian Johnson, being released on Dec. 12. Knives Out newcomer Josh O'Connor is part of the cast, in addition to Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Cailee Spaeny and Daryl McCormac. The film gets its name fort he U2 song, off of the band's album "Pop." The live-action series One Piece returns for Season 2, starring Iñaki Godoy, Mackenyu, Emily Rudd, Jacob Romero and Taz Skylar, which will premiere on Netflix in 2026. At the Tudum live event, Netflix released its first look at the character Tony Tony Chopper, a smart and cute blue-nosed reindeer-boy hybrid. Chopper has the ability to treat various illnesses. "What excited me about playing Chopper is the tug of war between his standoffishness and his huge heart," Mikaela Hoover, voice of Chopper, told Tudum. "He tries so hard to hide his emotions and put on a tough exterior, but underneath, he's a big softy, and his love can't help but come out." "I believe there is a little Chopper in all of us. We all want to be loved and accepted. We go to great lengths to keep the people that we love safe. There's a purity to his nature that reminds us of what's good in the world." Chopper was introduced in the manga's 134th chapter.

‘Stranger Things' Season 5 Editing Is Ahead of Schedule, Duffer Brothers Promise at SCAD TVfest: ‘We're Definitely on Target' for 2025

Matt and Ross Duffer want to clear up any confusion: Yes, the fifth and final season of 'Stranger Things' is coming this year. As a matter of fact, it may be even sooner than expected. 'We're focused on visual effects sequences right now, which started back in January,' Ross Duffer told the audience at the SCAD TVfest, where the brothers were honored with the Variety Showrunners Award. 'It's going well. We're actually ahead of schedule, which is rare for us.' More from Variety Laverne Cox Gives Powerful Speech Against Trump Agenda at SCAD TVfest: 'They Are Committed to Eradicating Trans People from Public Life' 'Phineas and Ferb' Revival Gets Summer Premiere on Disney Channel and Disney+ SCAD TVfest Sets 2025 Lineup, Will Honor Hiroyuki Sanada, Laverne Cox, Walker Scobell and More It's too soon to tell how the eight episodes will be released — if it will be all in one batch or, if like in Season 4, the show will be spread between two drops. 'We will see,' Matt Duffer said. 'I will say that it is coming this year. We're definitely on target.' At the recent 'Next on Netflix' press event, the Duffers described the final season as 'eight blockbuster movies,' which Matt Duffer admitted 'sounded like a good sound bite.' 'Ross and I do love blockbuster films, we do love big special effects sequences, but at the end of the day, it's about the character work,' he said. 'What I do love about television, even though we were film guys growing up, that we're able to do these huge cinematic special effects, but then we also have a lot of time to spend with the characters… the goal is you're so invested in the story, and that's what I found good TV does really well.' 'Stranger Things' star Caleb McLaughlin, who plays Lucas on the series, was also at the SCADshow theater to hand the Variety award to the Duffers. The two producers noted with awe how much McLaughlin and his fellow young stars had grown up during the course of filming 'Stranger Things.' 'They're like family now,' Matt Duffer said. 'That aspect of the show has been really special. I don't know if it's just because there's a bunch of them, but they've all turned out so well as human beings. The fear is we're going to screw up a child by making them famous. I'm just so proud of how they've turned out as people. Caleb, he's a great guy.' Ross Duffer said the nostalgia is starting to creep in as 'Stranger Things' comes to a close. 'For both of us, I think it hit mostly that last week of filming, and specifically the last day of filming when we started to wrap our main cast,' he said. 'It was a full year of filming that you're really in it moment to moment. But that last week, and particularly that last day, you started to reflect on everything and the journeys that we've all been on. It hit us all pretty hard. Now we're backing in on editing, and it'll hit us again, I think, when the show is finally released.' As for what's next with the 'Stranger Things' franchise, the Olivier-winning West End play 'Stranger Things: The First Shadow' hits Broadway next month. And beyond that, the Duffers have more ideas about the future — although they're not able to get into specifics yet. 'This story, these characters' stories, that's done,' Matt Duffer said. 'So that that whole story is coming to an end. There's not like a Steve/Dustin spinoff or something. The hope is, we finished telling this story, and then you leave it, and then you tell new stories. And hopefully there are new characters that people can fall in love with.' There's also an opportunity for more 'Stranger Things' in other venues like gaming. 'I love games,' Matt Duffer said. 'That sounds like a good idea. I'm open to that, if they want to do that. For sure, there is a board game… and I got them to make a pinball machine.' As part of their deal with Netflix, the Duffers are the executive producers on the upcoming series 'The Boroughs,' from Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, who created a thriller set inside a retirement community; as well as the horror series 'Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen,' from writer Haley Z. Boston, about the week leading up to a couple's ill-fated wedding. Matt Duffer said 'the cool part' of running their Upside Down Pictures shingle is 'to use that to help get people like Haley, and Jeff and Will's show off the ground. You know, we're fans. We love watching TV and we love watching film. We're trying to use the fact that our name means anything to help get some of this stuff off the ground.' Is there a franchise that the Duffers might want to tackle, perhaps in the comic book, sci-fi or superhero realm? 'I think this kind of distressing to our agents, but no, not really,' Matt Duffer said. 'If we have any chips that we can cash in from 'Stranger Things,' we should be doing something original.' Added Ross Duffer, who pointed out that 'Stranger Things' started as an original homage to the kind of storytelling that inspired them: 'Can we take these loves, and in this case, our childhood and our friends and do something completely unique and original? Even though that wasn't the original goal or the plan, I think that ended up being so exciting to us that we kind of want to follow that blueprint.'
