One killed in a fiery, single-car crash on Lannon Road in Menomonee Falls, police say
A person died in a single-car accident Tuesday in the village of Menomonee Falls after the car left the roadway and struck a tree, authorities said.
At 3:35 p.m., a 2007 Toyota Corolla that had been traveling northbound on Lannon Road was found fully engulfed in flames just east of the roadway, about a quarter-mile north of Lisbon Road, according to a news release from the Menomonee Falls Police Department.
The Menomonee Falls Fire Department put out the fire and the driver was found deceased in the car, police said. There were no other passengers in the car.
Speed is believed to be a factor in the accident, police said, but the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
When reached by phone, Menomonee Falls Police Capt. Matthew Lewek told the Journal Sentinel he could not provide any further information about the driver.
The Menomonee Falls police and fire departments were assisted by the Waukesha County Sheriff's Office and the Waukesha County Medical Examiner's Office.
