Russell Martin in Rangers transfers hint & priority admission
There are still positions which, to the outside eye, need addressed. For example, right-back Max Aarons has often been used on the other side with Ridvan Yilmaz heading out the door. Martin admits there are areas where the team is not as strong as in others and he will look to address that. He said: "We're really strong in some areas now. We're less strong in others and then we have to be ready if anyone moves on as well. I think we'll try and improve the squad wherever we can. "We've really drilled down to a couple of key areas we need to make sure we have strength and depth in, and we'll do it when it's right for us. I don't think we're done by any stretch of the imagination, but I also don't envisage there being another six or seven. It will depend on who goes out as well at some time. I think we still need to strengthen a few bits." Read more: Asked to identify the exact positions he will be looking at, he added: "Well, you'll see in the next few weeks, I would have thought." The former Southampton and Swansea boss says he will always look at a player's character before their ability before deciding on a signing. He said: "I think it's always character before talent. That's been really important for us. Joe Rothwell, we knew, Max Aarons, we knew, we trust. Nasser [Djiga], we had brilliant references for. "So when you look at all the guys, we made sure the character reference first is really, really important. Also for no fault of anyone's, we have a lot of players that don't actually speak the language. So that's also been a really important consideration. "Nass speaks really good English, Gass has had two years here and speaks good English, so it's been really important. The culture of this club and the team needed to improve, I think. The habits needed to improve, the mentality needed to improve. Character certainly helps that. "So we'll definitely keep looking for that and then maybe an experienced body helps the guys in big moments. So if you can find the right one in that sense, then great."
