"No Words To Describe": RCB's Mayank Agarwal Left Speechless By Jitesh Sharma's Batting Heroics

Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Mayank Agarwal struggled to find words to describe the bewitching heroics of stand-in captain Jitesh Sharma, who left Lucknow Super Giants gobsmacked in the final group stage fixture of the 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Ekana Stadium. Bengaluru trounced the Super Giants in Lucknow with a six-wicket triumph and eight balls to spare, courtesy of Jitesh's unbeaten 85-run blitzkrieg to power the touring party into the second spot at the expense of Gujarat Titans. During RCB's record-shattering 228-run chase, Mayank witnessed Jitesh's blitzkrieg firsthand and played second fiddle during their unbeaten 107-run stand. He arrived at the crease after the eighth over when RCB had lost Rajat Patidar and Liam Livingstone on two consecutive deliveries. Mayank outlined the plan the duo quickly framed to pull off the third-highest successful chase in the cash-rich league's history. "There is very little talking to do. I just had to give the strike, and I think it was a wicketkeeper's game. Jitesh put up a show, and he was simply outstanding. There are no words to describe what he did," Mayank said after the match. "We were just calculating, and the wicket was good enough to target the fast bowlers. It builds a lot of confidence, momentum and belief as well. We could not do it last game, but we definitely made amends, and the captain led from the front. When I came, we lost two quick wickets. The plan was to build a partnership, and we knew the wicket was good enough," he concluded. Bengaluru's heist was filled with ups and downs. Lucknow skipper Rishabh Pant's rollicking 118 lifted the hosts to a herculean 227/3. In reply, Virat Kohli and Phil Salt laid the foundation by exploiting Lucknow bowlers in the powerplay. Jitesh and Mayank picked up the momentum and steered Bengaluru to the franchise's highest run-chase in the tournament's history. After finishing second in the group standings, Bengaluru has booked a date with Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1 on Thursday, while Gujarat will square off against Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator on Friday. Congress alleges scam in NREGA in Panchmahal too

Vadodara: After an offence was registered regarding the alleged scam in the National Rural Employment Guarantee (NREGA) scheme in Dahod district involving a BJP minister's sons based on the Congress's representations, the Congress has alleged that large-scale irregularities occurred in neighbouring Panchmahal district too. The party alleged that large sums of money were paid for material supplied by BJP members in violation of NREGA rules. The Congress raised the NREGA irregularities in Dahod, which were confirmed by an inquiry, and an offence was registered there. Congress now claims that the expenditure ratio of 60% on labour and 40% on material was not maintained in NREGA work in Jambughoda taluka of Panchmahal district. This ratio must be maintained, according to NREGA guidelines. Leader of opposition in the Gujarat assembly, Amit Chavda, said that in NREGA works taken up in the taluka in 2021-22, 79% of the money was spent on materials. In 2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25, expenditure on materials was 94%, 81% and 58%. He said that in all these years, the total expenditure on NREGA in the taluka was Rs 293 crore, and just 22% was spent on labour. Chavda said all four agencies supplying material for NREGA in the taluka are linked to BJP members. These agencies are Giriraj Traders, owned by BJP member Mayank Desai, who was recently appointed the district unit president of the party, Giriraj Enterprise owned by Jignesh Desai, and Giriraj Supplies owned by Mayank's wife and former district panchayat president, Keta Desai. Chavda alleged that Chhatrasinh Baria, the owner of the fourth agency, Jay Mataji Suppliers, was also close to a BJP leader. Chavda also pointed out that of the total expense of Rs 512 crore on material for NREGA works in the district, Jambughoda taluka spent Rs 216 crore, the highest. He added that the taluka was the smallest in the district and had a small population of just 42,000. He said that large numbers of works were done in even small villages in the taluka. Mayank rejected the allegations, saying they were aimed at targeting him and the party. "It is true that I have an agency for construction material. I have been supplying materials since 2017-18. It is the officials who raise the demand for materials, and we supply it," said Mayank. He said that beyond supplying material, he had no role in the development works. "I believe the works were taken up at the places where they have been shown. When we supply material, we take a certificate for the quality of the material, after which the billing and payment take place," Mayank said. ‘There were times where we had our chances to make the playoffs': LSG captain Rishabh Pant

Lucknow Super Giants skipper Rishabh Pant said that there were various points of the season where they could have qualified for the IPL playoffs but the inability to take these opportunities cost the team in the long run. LSG has had a rather inconsistent season but on Thursday they showed what they were capable of when in full flow when they defeated Gujarat Titans by 33 runs. 'We talk about playing good cricket, we've shown on occasion we can do that. There were times in the tournament where we had our chances to make the play offs (but didn't make it), but it's part and parcel of the game,' Pant after the GT match. 'Coming into the tournament, there were lot of injury concerns. We made sure it's something we wouldn't talk about it. The whole batting unit has played, we lacked a bit on the fielding side. We can't make excuses, just want to learn and move on,' he added. Lucknow had begun the season with a lot of their key bowlers on the injury list. Mohsin Khan, Avesh Khan, Akash Deep, and Mayank Yadav were all out injured at the start of their campaign. While Shardul Thakur was signed mid-season and Avesh and Akash made returns, Mayank featured in just two games before being ruled out again. In Thursday's match, Gujarat messed up on a golden opportunity to seal a top two spot in the league table after their loss to Lucknow. Batting first, Mitchell Marsh's brilliant 117 off 64 balls took LSG to 235 for 2 after stipulated 20 overs. The total was commanding and LSG did well enough to keep the home team at bay, restricting them to 202 for 9 in 20 overs. New Zealander Will O'Rourke, who has come in as Mayank's replacement, was the pick of the bowlers for LSG with figures of 3 for 27. Shahrukh Khan (57 off 29 balls) did give LSG a scare with some lusty blows but that was never going to be enough in the end despite a riveting 86-run stand with Sherfane Rutherford for the fourth wicket in just 6.4 overs.

RCB sign Tim Seifert as replacement for Jacob Bethell with IPL 2025 playoffs in mind, batter to leave for England duty

Having already qualified for the IPL 2025 playoffs, RCB have signed Tim Seifert as replacement for Jacob Bethell as the English cricketer is set to leave for national team duty. Bethell will be joining the England cricket team after RCB's league fixture vs SRH on May 23, and Seifert will be able to represent the side from May 24 onwards. The New Zealand wicketkeeper-batter joined RCB for ₹2 crore. RCB are currently second in the table with 17 points in 12 matches, consisting of eight wins and three defeats. RCB have two more games remaining in the group stage, and will also face LSG on May 27. Seifert has IPL experience and has represented KKR in 2021 and DC in 2022. RCB have also signed Mayank Agarwal as replacement for the injured Devdutt Padikkal. Speaking on Mayank's arrival, RCB Director of Cricket Mo Bobat said, 'We all wish him well. In terms of replacing him, Mayank was an obvious choice for us. Like all teams, whenever you get injuries, you start looking through the list of available options but you're trying to work out what it is that you need.' 'What we needed was somebody to deliver the sort of impact that Dev delivered. But we were definitely after a calm head, someone with some experience. It helps that he's someone that's been there and done it. As we move to the pressure games, we think that experience will be really helpful for him.' Meanwhile, Mayank said, 'It feels amazing. It just feels that life has come a full circle. Started off in 2011 with RCB and then just coming back now, just feels good. I think the team is really focused. There's a very good environment. You know guys are focused but they are also relaxed and obviously they are playing good cricket.'
