Star-crossed teacher, minor student ‘die by suicide' in hotel
Agra: A 24-year-old teacher of a coaching centre and his Class 8 student were found dead in a hotel room in Aligarh, in what police believe to be a case of suicide by poisoning, officials said on superintendent of police (ASP) Mayank Pathak said, "Chandrabhan (only his first name is available) was a BTech graduate from Mathura. He was employed at a coaching centre in Aligarh's Sarsol area, where the girl was enrolled as a student. The two had checked into a hotel near Khereshwar Square on Monday morning using false identities. Their bodies were discovered later in the night when a friend arrived to meet them."The ASP said, "Preliminary investigation suggests that opposition by families to their relationship may have prompted them to take the extreme step. Empty poison pouches were recovered from their pockets."A forensic team collected evidence from the hotel room and the bodies were sent for postmortem examination. Police said legal proceedings are underway and further action will be taken once a formal complaint is received.
