Dylan O'Brien called out by trans sibling after old interview resurfaces: ‘Didn't check in when I had surgery…'

In a shocking turn of events, Hollywood star Dylan O'Brien has found himself in hot water after being called out by his sibling for not being a supportive ally. The Teen Wolf and Maze Runner star, known for his advocacy of LGBTQ+ rights as well as his role in the queer drama Ponyboi, is now facing backlash after his trans sibling, Julz O'Brien, accused him of failing to check in during a significant personal moment — gender affirmation surgery. The controversy began when a 2024 interview featuring Dylan resurfaced online. In it, Dylan spoke about how grateful he is to have queer people, including his younger sibling, in his life. The interview, which was originally aired last January, showed Dylan reflecting on how his relationships with trans and nonbinary people have shaped both his personal life and professional career. 'I have a trans, nonbinary sibling,' Dylan said at the time. 'I know people in my personal life as well who are queer, and I am so grateful for how much it deepens my experience in this world.' While many were touched by Dylan's words, the situation took a dramatic turn when Julz O'Brien responded to a seemingly random comment on Instagram. In response to a post celebrating Dylan's words, Julz made it clear that his brother's public praise was not reflected in his actions. 'He didn't check in when I had top surgery,' Julz wrote. 'He didn't even wish me happy birthday last week! But glad I could deepen his experience in this world and make the world love him that much more.' The comment immediately caught the attention of fans, sparking a wave of reactions online. While many had previously admired Dylan for his openness and advocacy, Julz's claim painted a starkly different picture of the actor's private behaviour. Fans didn't hold back in expressing their shock and disappointment on social media. The backlash was swift, with several calling out Dylan for his alleged lack of support during such a personal and life-changing moment for his sibling. 'DYLAN IS TRANSPHOBIC???!!!!' one fan wrote on X. Another comment read, 'There goes y'all's favourite innocent white boy.' One more user added, 'Being transphobic in 2025 is weird as hell,' while another sharply noted, 'Hard truth is, public praise means nothing when private care is missing.' One more comment stated, 'This went from heartwarming to heartbreaking in 0.2 seconds—reminder: public praise means nothing without private support.' As of now, Dylan has yet to publicly respond to the accusations. The actor, who has previously been vocal about his LGBTQ+ advocacy, now faces the challenge of reconciling his public persona with the allegations made by his own sibling.

Dylan O'Brien's trans sibling blasts him after actor gushed about them in interview

Dylan O'Brien's trans brother revealed the actor hasn't spoken to him in over a year, despite previously gushing about him in an interview. The Teen Wolf actor, 33, told Vulture in January of last year that he was grateful for his 'trans, nonbinary sibling' while promoting his queer thriller film Ponyboi. 'I have a trans, non-binary sibling and I know people in my personal life as well who are queer. I am so grateful for how much it deepens my experience in this world,' he said. However, Dylan's brother — who goes by Julz on Instagram and uses he/they pronouns — revealed the two are not seemingly as close as the actor made them out to be. After the Gay Times recently re-shared Dylan's comments to their Instagram account, Julz wrote underneath: 'He hasn't spoken to me in over a year. He didn't check in when I had top surgery. He didn't even wish me a happy bday last week!' 'But glad I could deepen his experience in this world and make the world love him that much more,' he added of his brother, who stepped out in drag for a Max series last year. has reached out to O'Brien's representatives for comment. In another comment on the post, Julz wrote, 'I'm actually trans masc and go by he/they pronouns', after his brother referred to him as non-binary. Julz' remark was made underneath a comment that accused O'Brien's girlfriend, model Rachael Lange, of being homophobic and racist. Maze Runner star Dylan has been promoting his upcoming film Ponyboi, which centers on an intersex sex worker having an affair with Dylan's character, possibly explaining why he wanted to emphasize his allyship through his family connection. After his trans brother's comments went viral, fans took online to blast Dylan. 'Truly diabolical to pretend to have a great relationship with your sibling, and paint yourself out to be an ally, when you don't even speak to that sibling,' one wrote. 'I feel like using other people's life experiences for brownie points is in poor taste, whether you're close with them or not. That's just my opinion tho,' another wrote. 'why even pretend to support your sibling knowing that you don't even talk to them or even acknowledge their birthday… for cool points? like i don't understand,' someone else questioned. 'This is honestly heartbreaking. Public words mean nothing if you're not there when it counts. Actions > posts.' After his trans brother's comments went viral, fans took online to blast Dylan 'In the upcoming queer drama PONYBOI .... and there it is. I hate how actors doing media buzz always fake a personal connection to something or someone also in that movie. it's a ridiculous expectation for romantic leads, for niche hobby movies, especially for queer films. You don't HAVE to be deeply involved with the movie's theme in your personal life, it doesn't make it better!' However, others defended the actor, with one writing, 'The interview was before they stopped talking. The magazine should had clarified it.' In March, Julz showed off the results of his top surgery, flashing his chest and post-surgery scars in a number of shirtless snaps. It's unclear what prompted the rift between the siblings. Julz previously shared an Instagram tribute to O'Brien for his birthday in August 2022. Julz also called Dylan 'my very first best friend' in an Instagram post from 2020. In Ponyboi, O'Brien — who previously starred in a Taylor Swift music video — plays Vinnie, the secret lover and pimp of a young intersex worker portrayed by River Gallo. The film debuted at Sundance in January 2024 and is scheduled for a theatrical release on June 27. In an interview with Adobe, Dylan admitted he was 'extremely uneducated' on the topics discussed in Ponyboi. 'Going in, I was extremely uneducated on intersex and the intersex community.' 'This was such an enlightening experience for me, and [River is] someone I hold so dearly now: a friend I'll have with me for the rest of my life.' Meanwhile Gallo previously gushed that Dylan 'is literally an example of what so many men should be.' O'Brien is primarily known for his role as Stiles Stilinski in the MTV supernatural drama series Teen Wolf, which ran from 2011–2017. He also played Thomas in the Maze Runner film trilogy.

After Legend of Zelda, five Nintendo franchises that should head to the big screen

The big screen adaptation of The Legend of Zelda, one of Nintendo's most beloved video game series, now has a release date: March 26, 2027. Details were first unveiled in November 2023 by series creator Shigeru Miyamoto. The film will be directed by Wes Ball, who is known for Maze Runner and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. The highly-anticipated adaptation comes after the huge success of The Super Mario Bros Movie, which made more than $1.3 billion worldwide after its release in 2023. Nintendo has many other beloved characters and video games in its vast library. Here are five that should get the big screen treatment after The Legend of Zelda. The first game in the Metroid series was released in 1987 on the Nintendo Entertainment System in North America. Since then, it has become a series with a rabid fanbase that follows each prospective new game with unbridled excitement. The game follows Samus Aran, a female bounty hunter who dons a power suit that enables her to shoot energy projectiles. In her post-apocalyptic world, Aran faces off against the titular Metroids, a jelly-like predatory species that feed on life energy. The latest game in the series, Metroid Dread, was released in 2021 and sold more three million units, proving just how popular the series still is. The alien worlds of the game and its brave protagonist would make for an exciting film adaptation. Previously a cult favourite, Animal Crossing became a global hit during the first months of the Covid-19 pandemic with the release of New Horizons in 2020. The game sold more than 47 million units, making it one of the most popular games on the Nintendo Switch. In it, players create a character then move to an island which houses several animals. The objective is to clean up the island, build houses and places of leisure for the animals and have fun beautifying the place. An Animal Crossing animated film seems inevitable as the popularity of the series continues to grow. Not quite as popular as Super Mario with non-gamers, Kirby is still a beloved character with many fun games since his first appearance in 1992 on the Game Boy. The pink blob can fly around, punch and swallow his enemies whole to absorb their powers. Kirby's popularity really skyrocketed after his inclusion in the Super Smash Bros games in which he became a go-to character to choose for novices and experts alike. A Kirby film would probably be a fun animated production that could feature other Nintendo characters too. One of Nintendo's more recent successes, Splatoon came out in 2015. The third-person shooting game in which two teams battle it out to paint a level with their team's colours. Some characters have powers such as transformation or more powerful tools of painting. Splatoon is very much Nintendo's cute answer to the rising popularity of shooting games such Call of Duty and others. There's no killing or harming in Splatoon, just a fun experience of spraying paint. There have now been three games in the series as it continues to grow and cement its place in the Nintendo library. The style lends itself to an animated film adaptation which would be energetic and funny. A somewhat forgotten character is Star Fox, once one of Nintendo's most famous during the N64 era. The character had seven mainline releases between 1993 and 2017. Star Fox is primarily a rail shooting game that evolved into a flying game. In it, players control the titular Star Fox who is aided by his anthropomorphic animal friends. Much like Kirby, Star Fox's popularity grew as he remained part of the Super Smash Bros games. All the different animal characters in the games have well established traits that make it perfect for an animated film adaptation.

Nintendo's Risky ‘The Legend Of Zelda' Movie Gets A Release Date

BOTW 2 It was easy to forget this even existed, but the Legend of Zelda live-action movie from Sony and Nintendo is still happening, and now it has a release date. That would be March 26, 2027, almost exactly two years from now, and four years after it was announced in 2023. The first confirmation of this seemed to be through the new Nintendo news app, of all places, sometime Nintendo wants everyone to download. The Zelda movie may be a somewhat exciting prospect, but it also feels like a pretty big risk for a few reasons. Namely, that it's live-action, something that was not the case with the billion dollar-grossing Super Mario Bros. movie which was able to channel the look and feel of the games exactly. Doing that in live-action for a Zelda movie will likely be much more difficult, though perhaps not impossible. The director of the movie seems like at least something of a question mark. That would be Wes Ball, director of the somewhat-okay YA Maze Runner trilogy, but more recently, the well-received Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. But those are the only movies under his belt in the last 11 years, and this is a huge, high profile project with an IP beloved by millions of fans over the course of quite literally 40 years. (Photo by Seth McConnell/The Denver Post via Getty Images) The film also has producer Avi Arad on board, who is best-known for producing a long list of superhero productions, from nearly all Sony's older Spider-Man movies and some X-Men movies. However, most recently, he's presided over the very bad, now-dead Sony Spider-Man villain universe which includes three Venom movies, Morbius and Kraven the Hunter, the last of which is one of the worst-grossing superhero movies in the entire modern era. Also, his last foray into a video game adaptation was the outrageously bad Borderlands movie. I'm just not sure this sounds like a dream team at this point, plus the base concept of a live-action Zelda movie is treading a knife's edge, and feels like far less of a slam dunk than a CGI Mario movie. CGI would have probably worked here, or probably even better, an anime series, but here we are. The movie will be out in two years, minus any delays, but I would not expect to see much promotion for it until some time in 2026. At least we have a date now, which is more progress than we've heard in several years. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky and Instagram. Netflix hops aboard Sifu movie adaptation, assigns a screenwriter

We learned in December 2022 that a production company had signed on to turn Sloclap's excellent martial arts game Sifu into a film. Today, the news dropped that Netflix is involved with the project, which seems to have caused some personnel shuffling behind the scenes. The initial announcement saw Story Kitchen, which has since amassed a huge catalog of video game adaptations, securing a treatment of Sifu with John Wick creator Derek Kolstad attached as the writer. Story Kitchen is still working on the film, but Kolstad is no longer serving as the screenwriter and T.S. Nowlin has instead been tapped for that role. Nowlin's past credits include the screenplays for the Maze Runner adaptations and most recently he was a writer for Netflix's splashy Ryan Reynolds vehicle The Adam Project. However, there is still a John Wick connection with Sifu. The director for all four John Wick films, stunt performer Chad Stahelski, has joined the producer team, as have members of Stahelski's 87Eleven Entertainment company.
