KUALA KRAI: Two men were killed after the bulldozers they were driving plunged into a slope and ravine at two separate locations yesterday. Kuala Krai district police chief Superintendent Mazlan Mamat said the first incident involved a 49-year-old Thai national whose bulldozer slipped and fell down a slope at Ladang Dabong, Km27 of Jalan Sungai Sam-Dabong. He said the police received a call about the incident at 2.50pm. "Initial investigations found that the victim was driving the bulldozer to a hillside area to take a break when the machine slipped and fell down the slope. He was flung from the vehicle and subsequently crushed. "The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. "His body was retrieved from the bulldozer with the help of the Fire and Rescue Department," he said in a statement last night. In the second incident, Mazlan said a 59-year-old local man died after the bulldozer he was driving fell into a ravine over 100 metres deep at Ladang Bonanza, Laloh, Kuala Krai at around 3.30pm. "Preliminary investigations found that the victim had been working at the plantation to build terraces. "However, the bulldozer slipped off the path during the work and plunged into the ravine. "The victim was trapped in the machine and was confirmed dead at the scene," he said. He said both bodies were sent to the Forensic Unit of Sultan Ismail Petra Hospital (HSIP) for post-mortem examination. "The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.

Mazlan said in the first incident at about 2.50 pm, a Thai national, aged 49, was killed after the backhoe he was driving fell off a cliff in the Ladang Dabong area, near Kilometre 27 of Jalan Sungai Sam-Dabong. "At the time of the accident, the victim was driving the backhoe to take a break and was passing through a hilly area. "The backhoe skidded and fell off the cliff, causing the victim to be thrown out and subsequently crushed by the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene," Mazlin said in a statement today. He said the accident is believed to have been caused by the driver's negligence, having failed to control the vehicle being driven, causing it to fall off the cliff. Meanwhile, in another accident at about 3.30 pm, a 59-year-old man was killed in Ladang Bonanza, Laloh after a bulldozer he was driving fell down a ravine. "Initial investigations found that the victim was working in the plantation and operating the bulldozer to make terraces. "While doing terrace work, the bulldozer slipped off its path and fell into a ravine about 100 metres deep," he said. He also said the victim who was trapped in the machine was pronounced dead at the scene, and the accident is believed to have been caused after the victim lost control of the bulldozer.

KUALA KRAI: Police have recorded a statement from an express bus driver to assist in investigations into a crash that killed three family members here today. District police chief Superintendent Mazlan Mamat said the statement was taken from the 43-year-old driver shortly after the accident, which occurred at Km104 Jalan Kota Baru–Gua Musang. He said the driver's urine test came back negative. "The victims were a 39-year-old woman, her 18-year-old daughter, and her 24-year-old son-in-law," he said. Mazlan said the three, who were from Johor, were heading to Kota Baru for a relative's wedding when the incident occurred at about 11.30am. "Initial investigations revealed that the driver of the Perodua Myvi attempted to overtake another vehicle but failed, resulting in a head-on collision with the express bus, which was travelling from Kota Baru to Kuala Lumpur." He said the crash occurred on a dual-carriageway with a 90kph speed limit. "The impact caused severe injuries to the car occupants, who died at the scene. Their bodies, which were trapped in the wreckage, were extricated by the Fire and Rescue Department," he said. Mazlan said the bus driver sustained minor injuries from shattered glass, while all bus passengers were unharmed. The victims' remains were sent to the Forensic Unit of Hospital Sultan Ismail Petra in Kuala Krai for post-mortem examinations. "The accident is believed to have been caused by the Myvi driver's negligence while overtaking," he said, adding that motorists should always adhere to speed limits and traffic rules. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Police are urging witnesses or anyone with information to contact the Kuala Krai Traffic Police or Investigating Officer Inspector Mohamad Amirul Izham Azlan at 09-9666222.

Three killed, one injured in car–express bus collision in Kuala Krai

KUALA KRAI: Three people, including two women, were killed when the car they were travelling in collided head-on with an express bus here this morning. The victims, comprising two women and a man, sustained severe head and bodily injuries and died at the scene of the 11am crash, which occurred in Kampung Sungai Sam. The bus driver was injured in the accident. A Kuala Krai Fire and Rescue station spokesman said a team was deployed to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 11.20am. "Upon arrival, firefighters found that a Perodua Myvi and a bus had been involved in a head-on collision. "Three adults were found trapped inside the car. All were believed to have died at the scene and were later handed over to the police," the spokesman said. Meanwhile, Kuala Krai district police chief Superintendent Mazlan Mamat confirmed the incident. He said initial investigations showed that the car driver had failed to overtake another vehicle before colliding with the oncoming bus.

Trailer carrying empty cooking gas cylinders crashes into railway bridge

KUALA KRAI: A trailer carrying 950 empty cooking gas cylinders crashed into the metal barrier of a railway bridge on Jalan Sultan Yahya Petra here on Sunday. The incident occurred at 3.21pm when the 4.3-metre-tall trailer attempted to pass under a structure with a maximum clearance of 4.1 metres, Buletin Utama reported. District police chief Superintendent Mazlan Mamat said the heavy vehicle was travelling from Pengkalan Chepa, Kota Baru, to Seremban and was heading towards the town centre when it struck the bridge barrier. "As a result of the collision, several gas cylinders were thrown onto the road, and one bounced towards a car on the opposite lane. "No injuries were reported," he said in a statement. He said the trailer driver was issued a summons under Rule 10 LN 166/59 for failing to control the vehicle. "If found guilty, the driver may face a fine of not less than RM2,000 or imprisonment not exceeding six months," he said. He also urged Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) to take immediate action regarding the barrier, noting that this was the second incident at the same location.
