Tiger Woods, Justin Rose and more congratulate Rory McIlroy on Masters win, career grand slam: 'Now you're a part of history'
After a thrilling playoff win at the Masters on Sunday, Rory McIlroy finally earned an elusive Masters win to complete a career grand slam more than a decade in the making. By winning the Masters, the British Open, the PGA Championship and the U.S. Open in his career, McIlroy became just the sixth man to achieve that feat. One of the others, Tiger Woods, made sure to welcome McIlroy to that exclusive club Sunday. Woods missed the Masters (and the champions dinner) while recovering from an Achilles injury sustained last month. "Welcome to the club," Woods said in a social media post directed to McIlroy on Sunday. "Completing the grand slam at Augusta is something special. Your determination during this round and this entire journey has shown through, and now you're a part of history. Proud of you!" Welcome to the club @McIlroyRory. Completing the grand slam at Augusta is something special. Your determination during this round, and this entire journey has shown through, and now you're a part of history. Proud of you! — Tiger Woods (@TigerWoods) April 14, 2025 Another member of that club, Gary Player, also offered "heartfelt congratulations" to McIlroy in a lengthy social media post. "This is one of the rarest and most difficult achievements in all of sport, something only now six golfers in history have ever accomplished. We are proud to add Rory to our exclusive club and no doubt he has set the standard for his era. To win all four major championships takes unwavering perseverance and the courage to overcome adversity time and time again in the face of immeasurable pressure few have ever experienced. Rory showed true grit today and also through the entire tournament," Player wrote. "It was 11 years ago when Rory first started the final leg of his career Grand Slam journey. And throughout this time, he's carried himself with class, led with principle, and played with passion. For him to finally don the Green Jacket in golf is a moment to be celebrated by fans around the world." I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Rory McIlroy on his historic win at the Masters and completion of the career Grand Slam. The drama of today capped off with his playoff victory was simply meant to be. I would be remiss if I didn't mention my admiration for Justin… — GARY PLAYER (@garyplayer) April 14, 2025 McIlroy won the 2025 Masters after a number of ups and downs. The 35-year-old made four double-bogeys throughout the weekend, including two on Sunday that erased what was at its height a seven-shot lead and set up a sudden-death playoff with Justin Rose. In the end, McIlroy locked in for the birdie and the win — long overdue. With his Masters victory, McIlroy completes his career grand slam nearly 11 years after his last major tournament win. When McIlroy finally got a chance to put on his green jacket, he received it from the 2024 Masters champion, Scottie Scheffler. In a post after the tournament ended, Scheffler also offered congratulations to McIlroy — with a joke at his expense about how long it took. "The green looks good on you bud, only took you 11 years to try it on," Scheffler quipped before adding, "Jokes aside, proud of you." The green looks good on you bud, only took you 11 years to try it on 😅 … Jokes aside, proud of you @McIlroyRory — Scottie Scheffler (@scottscheffler) April 14, 2025 Despite the narrow, painful loss, Rose graciously congratulated McIlroy on his win online while saying that he "gave it everything." "Very cool sharing the green with you in that moment," Rose said in a post, thanking his team as well. I gave it everything….Congratulations @McIlroyRory on winning the @TheMasters and completing the Grand Slam.. very cool sharing the green with you in that moment…Thank you Team🌹 as always for all the support during the week… We go again 👊🏻 — Justin ROSE (@JustinRose99) April 14, 2025 In addition to Woods, who picked up the career grand slam in 2000, and Player, who got his in 1965, the other three to achieve the feat are Jack Nicklaus (1966), Ben Hogan (1953) and Gene Sarazen (1935). Woods and McIlroy are the only two to complete the milestone in the past 50 years.

Rory McIlroy takes on Jimmy Fallon in washing-machine chipping contest
Rory McIlroy still has his 9-year-old touch. McIlroy, who famously appeared on an Irish talk show in 1999 and successfully chipped balls into a washing machine, again took on the challenge Thursday in New York. The reigning Masters champion, sporting his size 38 green jacket, joined 'The Tonight Show' to discuss his completion of the career Grand Slam with his victory last month at Augusta National. He and host Jimmy Fallon then competed in a washing-machine chipping-off which, unsurprisingly, McIlroy won handily. .@McIlroyRory and Jimmy go head-to-head chipping golf balls into washing machines like Rory used to do as a kid 🤣 #FallonTonight .@McIlroyRory reflects on his journey to winning @TheMasters. #FallonTonight

Rory McIlroy's well-wishers included two US presidents after Masters success
Rory McIlroy is humbled that his tale of perseverance in completing the career grand slam has touched people from 'all walks of life' – including two US presidents. McIlroy fulfilled his lifelong ambition of winning all four majors when he was crowned Masters champion by beating Justin Rose in a dramatic play-off earlier this month. The world number two from Northern Ireland ended his 11-year wait for an achievement that has been managed by only five other players, resulting in an outpouring of appreciation. 'It's been an amazing few days, reflecting on everything that happened and the magnitude of it,' McIlroy said at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. View this post on Instagram A post shared by The Masters (@themasters) 'The big thing for me is just how the whole journey resonated with people and the people that have reached out to me. That's been absolutely amazing. 'It's very much been from beyond golf. I spoke to two presidents the day after, which was pretty cool. Just people reaching out from all walks of life, whether it be sports, entertainment, culture. All of it. 'People who you would never even think would watch golf or would know what's going on. That was very, very humbling. 'I think people can see themselves in the struggle at times and in everything that you try to put into getting the best out of yourself in that journey. 'I think people watching someone finally get it done, something they've been trying to do for a decade-plus, I think that resonated with a lot of people.' 🏆 Excited to have our defending Champs, @McIlroyRory and @ShaneLowryGolf back in NOLA! — Zurich Classic (@Zurich_Classic) April 23, 2025 McIlroy's first outing since winning the Masters is his defence of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans title alongside Shane Lowry, which begins on Thursday. The 35-year-old is over the worst of a bug that has limited his ability to practise, but is now ready to tackle the team event. 'As you can hear, I've picked up a bit of a cold on the way, so feeling a little bit under the weather,' he said. 'Today (Wednesday) is a pretty important day for me. I need to start hitting some balls again and getting back into it. 'When I woke up Monday morning, I could barely get out of bed I was feeling that bad. Just to be here and feeling better is an achievement. Rory has arrived in the Bayou ⚜️ Making his first start since his Masters win, @McIlroyRory will tee it up with @ShaneLowryGolf this week @Zurich_Classic. — PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) April 23, 2025 'But I need to put a little bit of practice in to make sure that I don't let this man (Lowry) down this week. 'It's been an amazing few days but I'm excited and I'm happy to be here with my man and we're looking forward to a great week and trying to defend. 'If you had asked me a year ago if I'd be sitting here in this position with everything that's happened… 'I honestly could not be in a better place in my life…professionally, personally – all of it. It's amazing what a year can do. 'This tournament last year was a really cool moment for both of us. It injected a little bit of joy back into golf for me in some way. It's really, really important not to lose that.'

PGA Tour's 4-Word Message to Rory McIlroy After Masters Win
The Masters ended in a thrilling fashion over the weekend as Justin Rose and Rory McIlroy battled it out in a sudden-death playoff. By the end, it was McIlroy who prevailed as the Northern Ireland native finally got his first Masters victory. In turn, he also accomplished the career Grand Slam, something no golfer had done since Tiger Woods. Advertisement After McIlroy's win, Woods even sent him a message on X: "Welcome to the club @McIlroyRory. Completing the grand slam at Augusta is something special. Your determination during this round, and this entire journey has shown through, and now you're a part of history. Proud of you!" McIlroy's long-awaited Masters win was also his first major victory in 11 years, so it made it even more emotional at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia. As McIlroy continues to ride the thrill of winning the Masters, he took to X to post a video. Keep working hard," McIlroy's post read with a video montage. Advertisement The PGA Tour then responded with four words: "When dreams become reality," along with a green heart emoji. In 2022, McIlroy finished second at The Masters behind Scottie Scheffler, so he was right on the brink of a victory a few years back. In 2024, he dropped more, finishing tied for 22nd. McIlroy, 35, now has 29 PGA Tour wins with 11 runner-up finishes and 11 third-place finishes, although nothing better than putting on the green jacket at The Masters.
