Napoli hero Scott McTominay turned into real-life bottle opener after fan nickname

Ultras have inundated a Scots firm with orders for the quirky bar blades after dubbing the Tartan Army hero the 'apribottiglie' – the bottle opener. Napoli hero Scott McTominay has been turned into a real-life bottle opener after being given the nickname by besotted fans. Ultras have inundated a Scots firm with orders for the quirky bar blades after dubbing the Tartan Army hero the 'apribottiglie' – the bottle opener. Free-scoring McTominay, 28, has earned the fun moniker in a nod to his habit of breaking the deadlock for the newly crowned Serie A winners. ‌ And it's led their passionate supporters to snap up the solid steel tools, which show the midfielder performing the draught excluder role. They are sold online by Etsy company StopperFC for £16.60. ‌ Boss Ritchie Crossman said: 'He's actually in his Scotland strip so I was a bit surprised at the Italian interest. But the Napoli fans don't care. 'Scott is an absolute hero to them now in the same way as Maradona was. 'I've already sent a box of 20 to a guy in Naples. We don't normally offer overseas delivery but he was so desperate for them that he was happy to cover the costs. He told me they were opening their beers with them after they won the league.' Napoli won the Serie A 'scudetto' last Friday and were spearheaded by McTominay, who was named the league's MVP player of the season. ‌ The midfielder bagged 12 league goals, including a spectacular scissor kick in their crucial final day win over Cagliari. It's seen fans also dub him McFratm, which translates as McBro, and is the player's favourite. He is also known as McTerminator and MacGyver. ‌ His god-like status has seen him appear in murals and fan tattoos as well as having pizzas dedicated to him StopperFC sells more than 40 player novelty cushions as well as 30 bar blades. We told last year how yobs were foiled in a bid to torch the firm's Celtic pillows on Bonfire Night. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Napoli's savvy Scott McTominay decision revealed with Serie A champions set to benefit from Scotland ace's mega stardom

SCOTT McTOMINAY has taken Naples by storm since making the move last summer. Now, Napoli have made a shrewd move to PROFIT from the mania surrounding the Scotland hero. 3 3 3 McTominay, 28 sealed a £25million switch to the Serie A giants from Manchester United last season. He seemed to immediately get a new lease of life and has never looked back. Establishing himself as a fans' favourite from the off, McTominay finished the season as THE undisputed hero in the eyes of Napoli's famously fanatic band of followers. The fandom only heightened when the Hampden hero netted a stunning overhead kick to send Napoli on their way to a 2-0 win over Cagliari on the final day of the season - a victory that saw them crowned champions of Italy. On the same night, he was also named Serie A's MVP for the 2024/25 season. In the days that followed, McTominay thrilled fans by being front and centre of the wild celebrations that followed. Napoli supporters have shown their love for the Scotland star in many weird, wonderful and extravagant ways. A stunning shrine to the midfield ace appeared in the city centre, pizzas have been named in his honour and one fan even got a TATTOO. The incredible ink didn't, however, bear McTominay's name, instead carrying 'McFratm'. Like McTominay himself, his nickname has taken the Italian football world by storm. Scott McTominay dances with old fan while puffing on cigarette as never-ending Napoli title party continues Coined by a teammate, the player himself revealed it was his favourite of all the nicknames he'd been given, with McTerminator among the others. McFratm basically translates to 'McBro' and many Napoli fans have taken to referring to the midfielder by the term instead of his actual name. It's born from the Neapolitan word 'fratermo' which means 'my brother.' It's appeared on scarves, T-shirts and even on the mural in Naples. But that could all be about to change after Napoli made a big decision. According to Gazzetta, Napoli have TRADEMARKED 'McFratm.' The shrewd move means the club are hoping to benefit commercially from the incredible buzz surrounding McTominay. Napoli filed for the trademark in the middle of last month and covers nine different product categories. It means the club will be able to license and realise an abundance of 'McFratm' merchandise as well as using it for marketing and promotional purposes.

Scott McTominay's first coach reveals where Man Utd went wrong with Napoli star

Scott McTominay won Serie A with Napoli and established himself as a club hero in Italy under Antonio Conte after completing a move from Manchester United less than 12 months ago Scott McTominay is thriving at Napoli because of the faith placed in him by Antonio Conte says his first Manchester United coach. The Scotland international has become a hero in the south of Italy after helping Napoli to win Serie A in his debut season. McTominay joined the Italian giants last summer in a £26million deal to depart Old Trafford after 22 years. And the 28-year-old hit the ground running to scored 13 goals on the way to the title, including six goals in the final seven games of the campaign. ‌ Ex-United boss Erik ten Hag did not want to see McTominay exit the club last summer but the midfielder has clearly taken on a more prominent role at his new club. McTominay started 33 of 34 league games he appeared in this term in contrast to 18 of 34 in 2023/24 at United. ‌ Charlie Jackson, founder of Matrix Soccer Academy and McTominay's first coach at United, believes the trust placed in him has been pivotal to the Scot's success. The coach, who has also worked with Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton and Fulham left-back Antonee Robinson, reckons Jose Mourinho is the other figure to have inspired McTominay to such a degree. Jackson, who describes McTominay as 'tenaciouos' and eager to learn as a child, believes the Serie A superstar thrives when provided with support. "Jose was just fantastic for him," Jackson told the Sun."Gave him his debut, looked after him. Scott always works off confidence and a pat on the back. ‌ "If you believe in him, he'll run over coals for you. Conte's done that. Mourinho did that as well.' Jackson believes McTominay will continue to improve and show he is worthy of being labelled as world class. "The best is yet to come for him," he said. "I don't think you've seen anything yet. I used to say to his dad Frank, 'He'll never be looked at as world class and it's a shame but he should be because he is'. ‌ "He had success with Man United but to go and do what he's now done . . . and there is much, much more to come. That's the biggest thing that I can say about him — it's just the tip of the iceberg, honestly.' And Jackson believes McTominay's talents have been present right from the beginning. Coaching the star when he was still just five years old, was under no illusion that the Napoli ace would make it to the very top. He said: "There were no video phones in those days but I wish we could have filmed him as you'd have seen a special player. I've got his first shirt, his first training shirt and his first football — that we've got in a glass case — because you knew. You just knew.'
