Tecno Camon 40 Premier review

The Tecno Camon 40 Premier sits atop the Camon series, offering premium-like features at an affordable price. Last year's Camon 30 Premier turned out to be an excellent phone, so we have high hopes for the Camon 40 Premier as well. The new Premier comes with an updated chipset, now Dimensity 8350, a display with a higher refresh rate, a nicer build with higher ingress protection and a slightly updated battery. Moreover, the Camon 40 Premier is now promised to receive three major OS upgrades, as opposed to just two last year. Tecno Camon 40 Premier specs at a glance: Body: 161.0x75.0x7.7mm, 210g; plastic back, plastic frame; IP68/IP69 dust tight and water resistant (high pressure water jets; immersible up to 2m for 30 min). 161.0x75.0x7.7mm, 210g; plastic back, plastic frame; IP68/IP69 dust tight and water resistant (high pressure water jets; immersible up to 2m for 30 min). The newly updated hardware will go nicely with the true and tested one that's borrowed from the Camon 30 Premier. We get the same 50MP triple-camera setup, featuring a 3x optical zoom, and the 50MP selfie unit with autofocus. We don't expect any major changes in image quality, which is fine - the Camon 30 Premier already punched above its weight class in this respect. Even though the Camon 40 Premier shapes up to be an excellent midranger, its limited availability might hurt sales. The Camon 40 series was announced in February during MWC 2025, and we are now well into 2025, yet the phones are still only offered in a handful of markets. In any case, a full review is due, so let's see how the Camon 40 Premier stacks against some of its competitors. Unboxing the Tecno Camon 40 Premier The handset comes in a standard retail box containing the usual user manuals along with a USB-A to USB-C cable for charging and data transfer and a compatible 70W charging brick. There is also a protective case that has a design that is very similar to the phone's own design, so it doesn't conceal Tecno's efforts in that direction. Page 2

Realme Neo7 Turbo brings a huge battery and 100W fast charging

Realme launched a new member of the Neo7 family in China. It comes with a 7,200 mAh battery with 100W wired charging, and its name is Realme Neo7 Turbo. The phone is quite similar to the Realme GT7 but with the chipset of the Realme GT 7. Realme Neo7 Turbo comes with a Dimensity 9400e chip by Mediatek, which has one Cortex-X4 core at 3.4 GHz. The 6.8" AMOLED screen offers up to 144 Hz refresh rate and an outstanding 6,500 nits peak brightness. The phone has a 7,700 vapor chamber for cooling, a GT 2.0 Engine that reduces rendering by 30% and keeps power consumption at a reasonable level, and a special connectivity chip that improves Wi-Fi signal and provides an ultra-long-distance connection to the router up to 193 meters. The battery is 7,200 mAh, the biggest capacity in any Realme smartphone (on par with the Chinese GT7, of course). It can charge from 0 to 50% in 18 minutes, while 0-100% would take 47 minutes with the 100W charger provided in the retail box. The Neo7 Turbo supports bypass charging. Realme GT 7 5G Realme also certified the Neo7 Turbo against water or dust ingress, and it is now IP66, IP68, and IP69 compliant. Since the phone is not camera-oriented, it has a 50 MP main + 8 MP ultra-wide shooter on the back and a 16 MP selfie snapper at the front. Realme Neo7 Turbo comes with Realme UI 6.0 and Android 15 underneath. It has a Dynamic Island-type feature called Fluid Cloud 2.0 and some AI features, like removing objects in photos or summarizing texts and audio. There are two color options: White or Black, with a transparent design that highlights the phone's proficiency in raw performance. Realme Neo7 Turbo Realme Neo7 Turbo is available in China with a starting price of CNY 1,999 ($280/€250) for 12/256 GB. The most expensive variant is CNY 2,699 ($375/€330) for 16/512 GB, but we doubt any version whatsoever will be launched outside China. Source (in Chinese)

OnePlus Ace 5 lineup gets two new members

OnePlus Ace 5 and Ace 5 Pro have been on the smartphone market for almost half a year, but now the company refreshes the series with two more models – Ace 5 Racing and Ace 5 Ultra. These new smartphones are entirely different in specs and design, but keep the overall tone of the lineup - flagship performance at sub-flagship prices. OnePlus Ace 5 Ultra The name Ultra is literally translated as "Supreme," and is technically the most powerful Mediatek-equipped OnePlus smartphone – it comes with Dimensity 9400+. Here, we have a 6.83" OLED display with 120 Hz refresh rate and a resolution slightly greater than Full HD+. The chipset is coupled with 12 GB or 16 GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256 GB, 512 GB, or 1 TB UFS 4.0 storage. They are split into five different memory combinations to cover a wide price spectrum. The OnePlus Ace 5 Ultra has a modest camera setup: a 50 MP main shooter with an f/1.8 lens, AF and OIS, coupled with an 8 MP ultra-wide-angle shooter with a 112-degree FoV. The front camera is a basic 16 MP shooter sitting behind a punch hole. The phone comes with a dedicated side button that can be programmed to act as a shortcut to a predetermined set of apps — alarm, torch, Night Mode, translator or AI. OnePlus equipped the Ultra with a G1 connectivity chip that improves Wi-Fi speed and reliability by 33%, compared with competitors. It also has multi-layered cooling architecture with a 7,300 vapor chamber. The battery of the OnePlus Ace 5 Ultra has 6,700 mAh capacity. It comes with 100W wired charging support and also offers bypass charging. Just 10 minutes on the charger should offer 3 hours of gaming, while 39 minutes should fill the battery from 0 to 100%. OnePlus Ace 5 Ultra OnePlus comes in China with Oppo's ColorOS 15 and the in-house AI assistant, which is available only in the domestic market. Its colors are Blue, Black and Titanium Silver (with a cool striped design on the back), and the starting price is CNY2,499 (12/256 GB). The most expensive version is 16 GB RAM + 1 TB storage and costs CNY 3,799. OnePlus Ace 5 Racing OnePlus Ace 5 Racing comes with a Dimensity 9400e chipset. It has the same RAM and storage options as the Ultra, sans the 1 TB variant. The cameras on the back are downgraded to 50 MP main and 2 MP B&W sensor. The selfie camera retains its 16 MP sensor. Ace 5 Racing is built around a 6.77" AMOLED panel with Full HD+ resolution and up to 120 Hz refresh rate. OnePlus decided not to go with the dedicated G1 connectivity chip but at least brought a sophisticated cooling solution (although not as good as the one on the Ultra), including a 7,000 sq mm vapor chamber. The Ace 5 Racing excels over the Ultra with battery capacity – it brings the biggest cell in a OnePlus smartphone – 7,100 mAh. It charges at "only" 80W and it comes with bypass charging. This phone runs with ColorOS 15 and some AI features, like 4K upscaling in videos and erasing objects in photos. OnePlus Ace 5 Racing OnePlus Ace 5 Racing is available in White, Black, and Mint Green. Starting price is CNY1,799 for 12/256 GB. We don't expect this phone to launch outside China, but we would love to be surprised by OnePlus and Oppo. Source 1 • Source 2 (both in Chinese)
