No cause for worry, but precautions must: Karnataka Minister on Covid spike
'There are 47 active Covid-19 cases in the state, but no one is on a ventilator or oxygen support. All are in home isolation, and no one is in critical condition,' Rao said. He said there is no need to impose any restrictions at the moment, other than basic precautions for high-risk individuals. Any further measures, if necessary, will be taken based on the evolving situation, which is being closely monitored. Bengaluru, May 26 (PTI) Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao on Monday said there is no cause for concern, as most of the recent Covid-19 cases reported in the state involve only mild infections. However, he asserted that precautions still need to be taken. Speaking to reporters here, he said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah would chair a meeting later in the evening with officials from the Health and Medical Education departments, along with experts, to review the current situation and discuss future steps. 'RT-PCR kits will be supplied to all district and medical college hospitals starting today. Instructions have been given to collect the kits from the Karnataka State Medical Supplies Corporation Limited (KSMSCL) by this evening, so they will reach the facilities by today or tomorrow. Tests should be conducted only when necessary; there is no need for indiscriminate testing,' he said, adding that public testing is not being launched at this point. Observing the current symptoms in cases, Rao said the infections do not appear to be severe. He added that similar information has been received from other states and the central government, so there is no reason to panic—but that does not mean precautions should be ignored. 'Let's take precautions, observe the situation for a few more days, and take further action accordingly,' he said. 'There are no specific guidelines from the Centre at this point, other than general advice to monitor the situation, ensure preparedness, conduct testing, and assess the Covid load factor.' Rao noted that while there may be a minor variation between earlier variants of Covid-19 and the currently prevalent strain, no serious health issues have been observed so far. 'The severity has not been found yet,' he added. Reiterating that there are no movement restrictions in place, he said elderly people, those with low immunity, women who have recently given birth, and small children should wear masks when going to crowded places. Regarding schools, he said measures will be decided after observing the situation for three to four days. 'We will consult experts and make a decision based on their reports,' he added. Responding to a question, Rao clarified that there is no link between Covid-19 and rain. Diseases like dengue and chikungunya are caused by rains, he claimed. 'We have already held review meetings on dengue prevention across the state, in every district. About 50 per cent of dengue cases are reported from Bengaluru,' Rao said. 'We have mobilised more than 700 volunteers to help maintain cleanliness and create awareness. Sufficient precautionary measures have been taken, but public cooperation is essential. The situation is being monitored, and if cases rise, further steps will be taken,' he added. PTI KSU SSK ROH This report is auto-generated from PTI news service. Pregnant woman tests positive for COVID-19 in Belagavi
A case of COVID-19 has been detected at a private hospital in Belagavi, officials said. A 25-year-old pregnant woman from a village near Belagavi has tested positive for the virus. She had travelled from Maharashtra recently, I.P. Gadad, district health and family welfare officer, said. The patient has been identified as primigravida (first time pregnant) and she is under constant observation by doctors and paramedics. The patient is stable and undergoing treatment. She had consulted doctors at the KLE Charitable Hospital in Yallur and was later shifted to the KLE Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital in Belagavi. She is being treated as an in-patient, according to reports. 'As many as eight suspected cases were tested for COVID-19, but all have turned negative. COVID-19 wards are being set up in the district hospital and taluk hospitals. We are issuing a general warning, but there is no need to panic. Children, senior citizens and those with conditions like diabetes and hypertension need to be careful,' he said. 'A team of officials has been camping in Yallur, the native village of the patient. Mass testing of Influenza Like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) are being conducted. Members of all the 266 houses in the village have been tested and no one has tested positive. Even the primary and secondary contacts of the patient — family members and persons who came in contact with the patient — have not tested positive,' Dr. Gadad said. All suspected cases are being tested. An information and education campaign is being carried out across the district. The Departments of Health and Medical Education are working in coordination, the officer added.

Telangana is a medical tourism hub drawing over one lakh visitors annually: Health Secretary
Telangana is rapidly gaining recognition as a prime destination for medical tourism, attracting over one lakh visitors annually from regions including the Middle East, Africa, SAARC and CIS countries. The State's appeal is now expanding further to Southeast Asia and Europe, said Telangana Health Secretary Christina Z. Chongthu while addressing contestants of Miss World 2025 during their visit to AIG Hospital on Friday. Highlighting the importance of women's health, Ms. Chongthu described it as 'foundational' to the well-being of families and societies. She detailed the State's flagship healthcare initiative, Aarogya Mahila, launched in 2023, and outlined Telangana's broader healthcare infrastructure aimed at promoting equitable and accessible care for women. 'The Aarogya Mahila programme currently operates in 372 primary health centers across Telangana, linked with 37 tertiary care institutions. Every Tuesday, women patients can access preventive screenings and consultations exclusively provided by women healthcare professionals. It is cared for by women, for women,' she explained. Since its inception, Aarogya Mahila has screened 19.21 lakh women, with over 42,600 referred for further diagnosis and treatment. The screenings focus on eight critical health areas, including breast, cervical, and oral cancers, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), menopause, urinary tract infections (UTIs), infertility, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), and nutritional deficiencies. ‘Internal quota issues delayed completion of teacher recruitment in Kalyana Karnataka'
Issues related to the redistribution of reservation within Scheduled Castes communities delayed the completion of recruitment of 5,530 teachers who were already appointed in the Kalyana Karnataka region, Minister for Medical Education, Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, and Livelihood Sharan Prakash Patil has said. He was addressing mediapersons at Aiwan-e-Shahi Guest House in Kalaburagi on Saturday. Responding to media representatives who attributed the poor performance of Kalyana Karnataka districts in the SSLC examination results to the shortage of permanent teachers in primary and high schools, Dr. Patil assured them of resuming the recruitment process once the survey on internal reservations is completed. 'As an interim and temporary remedy till the appointment of permanent teachers, the school education department has appointed guest teachers to fill the gap,' he added. Speaking on the proposal to establish a dedicated engineering wing under the Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board (KKRDB) to speed up development projects, Dr. Patil clarified that the proposed wing will go on to become a department and that will not help address the issue. 'We can instead make effective use of the existing infrastructure, including departments such as Public Works, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Nirmithi Kendras and the Land Army. These structures should be better coordinated to accelerate development work. Accordingly, responsibilities are being distributed among the departments concerned,' he said. Among those present at the press conference were Forest, Zoology and Environment Minister Eshwar Khandre, KKRDB Chairman Ajay Singh, MLA Tippannappa Kamakanur; Karnataka State Pollution Control Board member Sharanu Modi and community leader Neelakanth Mulghe.
