T Wallet hits 16 lakh users, 4 cr transactions

Hyderabad: India's first state-operated digital wallet, T Wallet, has reached a major milestone with 16 lakh registered users and over four crore transactions processed over its eight-year journey since its official launch in 2017. Developed by the electronic service delivery (ESD) division of the IT department, T Wallet was introduced on June 1, 2017, during the post-demonetisation push for digital payments. According to officials, it remains one of the few, if not the only, state-run payment applications in India to have facilitated transactions worth nearly ₹35 crore. "T Wallet enables a wide range of services including real-time IMPS-based bank transfers, utility bill payments, service charges, and merchant transactions," said Ravi Kiran Tirumala, commissioner of ESD. The platform has a strong grassroots presence, being integrated with over 4,500 MeeSeva centres and more than 11,000 fair price shops across Telangana. This extensive network ensures accessibility in rural and remote areas, with services offered through the mobile app, web portal, and assisted service channels for citizens who do not have smartphones. T Wallet's inclusive and scalable model drew international attention when it was showcased during the second G20 Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion meeting in 2023 as an example for the Global South—demonstrating that even economically disadvantaged citizens can meaningfully engage with digital finance.

Address mismatch stalls farmer ID drive in Telangana

Hyderabad: A new initiative to assign unique identification numbers to farmers for accessing central govt schemes has hit a major roadblock in Telangana, leaving thousands unable to register due to a mismatch between their Aadhaar and land passbook addresses. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now According to senior officials, the issue arises when a farmer owns agricultural land in one place — often a remote village — but resides in a town, city, or in Hyderabad. Their Aadhaar card lists the urban address, while the land passbook reflects the village location. This discrepancy is causing the agriculture department's software to reject applications, preventing successful linkage of land records to the new farmer IDs. Even when farmers manage to receive the OTP (one-time password) required for verification, upload errors are commonly reported. The system currently mandates that addresses on both documents match exactly, a condition many farmers are unable to meet. Frustrated applicants are now calling for relaxation of the rules, fearing that continued technical hurdles could exclude them from key central schemes such as PM Kisan, crop insurance, and a 60% subsidy for fruit, vegetable, and silk farming. While 19 states have already completed the registration process and submitted data to the Centre, Telangana lags far behind. As per official figures, only about 30% of eligible farmers have successfully registered. Agriculture officers are now working to complete registrations by June 6, after which MeeSeva centres will also facilitate the process. The goal of the unique farmer ID system is to streamline benefit delivery, reduce fraud, and ensure faster compensation— especially in cases of natural calamities or crop failure. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Officials say the ID will help verify eligibility without requiring farmers to visit government offices during emergencies. In Telangana, there are more than 70 lakh landholding farmers, of whom around 40 lakh currently receive Rs 2,000 in three annual instalments under PM Kisan. The state agriculture department has clarified that the unique ID will not affect state-run welfare programmes like Rythu Bharosa or loan waivers, which will continue to rely on data maintained by the revenue department. Still, officials are urging all farmers to proactively register with local agriculture offices to avoid missing out on central benefits.

BJP, MIM corporators clash over fake birth & death certificates

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) council meeting witnessed a heated exchange between AIMIM and BJP corporators over fraudulent birth and death certificates being issued in the city. The debate arose after the GHMC disclosed that it had cancelled over 23,000 fake birth and death certificates across the city, with Charminar, Falaknuma, and Mehdipatnam circles being responsible for issuing the highest number of these certificates. BJP corporators pointed out that the majority of these fake documents originated from the Karwan and Mehdipatnam constituencies, as well as Balapur in the Chandrayangutta area. They alleged that Rohingya Muslims from Pakistan and Bangladesh were allegedly using these certificates to secure Aadhaar cards and passports. However, the AIMIM strongly refuted these claims, dismissing them as baseless. MIM corporators demanded that the BJP refrain from bringing religion into the issue and asserted that both Hindus and Muslims are 'bhai-bhai. ' GHMC officials said that they noticed some of the MeeSeva centres were misusing the instant approval system to generate birth and death certificates without uploading requisite relevant documents. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Тези обувки са толкова удобни, че няма да искате да ги събуете. ZAROTRAVEL® КУПИ СЕГА Undo FIRs were registered against the respective MeeSeva centres by concerned registrars of all the circle offices. "We terminated 16 health assistants and 15 outsourcing employees who were involved in the issuance of fake certificates," said S Pankaja, Additional Commissioner (Health). "Except for institutional births/deaths, the GHMC has now discontinued the instant approval system at MeeSeva centres, and other certificates are being issued with thorough verification and approval by the concerned registrar. Further, an OTP per each transaction is being generated and sent to the registrar's mobile number, so that the login credentials are not misused by the system," said an official from the health wing, GHMC. A few days ago, CMOH investigated the matter and found that of the 74 reported home births, 38 had been registered at Shishu Vihar, a centre for orphan children. A suo-motto investigation was initiated, which revealed that four of the reported home births had never occurred. After a thorough inquiry, it was found that 65 birth and 8 death unscrupulous certificates were fraudulently issued at Metro Hospital in Tolichowki. Officials said an FIR was filed against the hospital.

20 lakh more individuals to receive ration card benefits in Telangana

HYDERABAD: In a significant development ahead of the Telangana Formation Day celebrations, the state government has reportedly cleared a massive backlog of food security card applications, adding nearly 20 lakh new beneficiaries to the public distribution system (PDS). The decision is being seen both as an administrative milestone and a political move. According to official sources, over two lakh new ration cards have been approved, which will benefit a total of five lakh individuals. Additionally, applications for expanding family units under existing cards have been cleared, covering around 15 lakh more people. The Civil Supplies department is said to have conducted a comprehensive field-level verification process before the final approvals. This development pushes the total number of ration cards in the state from approximately 89.97 lakh to 92.28 lakh, with the number of beneficiaries rising from 2.81 crore to 3.01 crore — an increase of nearly 20 lakh individuals. The timing and scale of the ration card clearances are politically significant. In the lead-up to the 2023 Assembly elections, the then-opposition Congress had strongly criticised the BRS government for allegedly stalling the issue of new food security cards. The Congress government now appears to be eager to expedite the process of issuing new cards. The sanctioned cards are part of the party's Praja Palana initiative — a citizen-outreach programme launched soon after the Congress formed the government — which solicited public grievances and applications across a wide range of welfare schemes. The government also facilitated online applications through MeeSeva centres, a move aimed at streamlining access and reducing bureaucratic delays. Beyond expanding coverage, the Congress government has also introduced qualitative improvements. Unlike the previous BRS regime, the current administration started supplying superfine variety rice through ration shops. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is expected to officially announce the clearance of these applications during Telangana Formation Day celebrations on Monday.
