SIM fraud racket busted, man held for forged Aadhaar cards
Jaipur: Cyber Crime Police arrested a 19-year-old man Wednesday for allegedly operating a fake SIM activation racket using forged Aadhaar documents. SP (Cyber Crime) Shantanu Kumar Singh said that the accused, identified as Ghanshyam Meena from Shrigovindpura of Tonk district, was supplying mobile SIM cards to cybercriminals after creating fake Aadhaar cards with his own photograph and fraudulent details. Singh said the arrest followed a tip-off about a suspect attempting to activate a SIM using forged identity documents at a mobile telecom company's store in Sanganer on Tuesday. The accused sought to link a new mobile number under a postpaid family plan. A verification by the company revealed that the Aadhaar card used bore Meena's photograph, but the name, number, and address did not match earlier records. The telecom operator flagged the suspicious application and coordinated with police to track down the accused. Upon arrest, police seized seven mobile SIM cards, two empty SIM covers, two forged Aadhaar cards, and a Vivo smartphone. Investigation revealed that Meena downloaded Aadhaar cards of unrelated individuals from the internet and altered them using mobile apps to insert his own photograph and fictitious details. He then printed the forged IDs at e-Mitra centres and used them to fraudulently obtain SIM cards from Airtel and Vodafone stores. Meena admitted to selling these SIM cards to others for money. A case was registered under relevant sections of the IT Act and the Indian Telegraph Act at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Jaipur. Police have secured his custody on remand to identify his network of accomplices and the retailers involved in issuing the SIMs.

Eight illegal Bangladeshis on way to Chennai held in Assam, fake documents recovered
The Government Railway Police (GRP) on Tuesday detained eight Bangladeshi nationals at Assam's New Bongaigaon Railway Station for allegedly entering India illegally and attempting to travel to Chennai for work, police officials said. Representational. (Getty Images/iStockphoto) The detainees—identified as Babu Sheikh, Ashraful Haque, Alamin Ali, Mamun Sheikh, Mohammad Ali, Rahul Amin, Musharraf Ali, and Asharul Haque—are all residents of Jamalpur district in central Bangladesh and aged between 19 and 22, according to police.. During initial interrogation, the men admitted they had crossed into India illegally through the porous India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya, allegedly by walking through hilly terrain and a broken fencing area. They claimed to have paid ₹9,000 each to a cross-border racket to facilitate their entry. 'All eight of us walked across the hills last evening and crossed the border through a broken fence. We were headed to Chennai for work and had paid money to some agents,' one of the detainees told reporters at the station on Tuesday morning. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mohanlal Meena said the group had planned to board a train to Chennai from Bongaigaon. 'They had fake documents in their possession, including Aadhaar cards and voter IDs. One of the eight individuals had earlier stayed in India for nearly a year and appears to be fluent in Hindi, Tamil, and Assamese. He is suspected to have led the group,' Meena said. The SSP added that the individual in question had obtained multiple Indian identity documents under false pretenses and told police that securing such forged papers was not difficult. The GRP has registered a case, and the suspects are being interrogated. Their identities and immigration status are being verified in coordination with central intelligence and border security agencies. Authorities suspect the involvement of a broader human trafficking or illegal migration network and have launched an investigation into possible facilitators on both sides of the border. SSP Meena further noted that the arrested individuals were found mingling with local migrant workers from Assam who were returning home from Delhi, Gurugram, and nearby areas following intensified crackdowns in those regions. 'While the returning workers are Indian nationals, these eight suspects were hiding among them at the station. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, GRP conducted a search operation and detained them,' Meena added. All eight individuals remain in GRP custody, and further legal action is underway.

Will Congress turncoat still get minority vote in Ward 63 bypoll?
1 2 Jaipur: On one side is a Congress neta who recently joined the BJP, and on the other is the minority vote. Although considered a Congress citadel for years, this time a tough fight is expected in the bypoll to Ward 63 of Jaipur Municipal Corporation-Heritage. The bypoll is set for next month following the death of Sushila Devi, who won in 2020 on a Congress ticket. Her son, Sunil Meena, was an influential Congress leader in the ward but he recently switched over to the BJP. Being a woman-reserved ward, BJP is planning to field Meena's wife, Seema Meena, as its candidate. Now the question is whether voters of Ward 63, mostly minorities, would keep faith in Meena and his family or continue to vote for the Congress. "I am confident that if given a chance, my wife would make it for the BJP. This won't be the first time I stand against Congress from this constituency. In 2014, I contested from this seat as an independent candidate and won, defeating both BJP and Congress," said Meena. Congress, on the other side, has zeroed in on around three minority candidates, hoping to reclaim the ward with the help of the minority vote bank. More than 40% of voters in this ward are from the minority community. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo "Meena magic won't work this time. In 2014, it was an exception. He managed to win because the vote bank of the Congress and the voters of BJP got split. He took advantage of being an independent candidate and won the election by a very low margin. This time, the entire minority vote bank would elect a Congress candidate again," said Yunus Qureshi, a Congress leader from the Kishanpole area and the former secretary of the party's minority cell. The state election commission has already started preparations for the bypoll and will announce the date soon.
