Presenter Danny Campbell to run 10k race in Crocs in memory of brother
His younger brother Duncan died in 2024 after a long battle with cancer. Before his death, Duncan Campbell spoke about his mental health in a book called The Suicide Notes and at an Edinburgh Fringe show of the same name. Danny Campbell said the race will be deeply personal, and funds raised will go to the Mental Health Foundation. He said: 'There were days where I was really overwhelmed, anxious, and felt like I was failing at everything – being a dad, running a business, keeping it together. Danny Campbell will take on the 10k in his Crocs (Image: HOKO Design/PA) 'My brother was honest about his own struggles, and that has been an inspiration and, in many ways, it's changed my life. 'Running in Crocs might sound daft, but it's about showing up exactly as you are and marching to the beat of your own drum. That's what he taught me.' Known for their signature aesthetic rather than as running shoes, the Crocs are likely to make the 10k even harder for Campbell. The 34-year-old, who founded Glasgow-based HOKO Design in 2019, has become well-known in Scotland through his architectural work, as well as for his TV presenting. Behind the scenes however, he has had to face the loss of his brother, while growing a business and raising his three young sons. READ MORE: The presenter said: 'When Duncan died, everything changed. He was so young. He was kind, funny, and smart. He was always the first to ask how I was doing. 'If Duncan had decided to end his life, we would have lost those final special years together. I'm grateful we had that time. 'I believe we had that time because he opened up. Hopefully by running a very slow 10k in squishy shoes, I can encourage others to share their problems with those close to them.' Danny Campbell hopes he will help break down stigma around mental health (Image: HOKO Design/PA) The Glasgow Men's 10k starts at the Riverside Museum and finishes at Glasgow Green, and is designed to get men of all ages moving and talking – with a focus on mental health. Campbell added: 'I read all the comments online about my Crocs, and I think it's a great indicator of why people don't open up. 'I find the online abuse quite funny, but if you take a step back, it shows that if you do anything remotely different from the norm, people want to knock you down. 'We lose too many good people because they don't feel they can talk. If doing something a bit silly gets even one person to open up, that's a win. 'An event like this is brilliant because it brings men together and will hopefully help remove the stigma around mental health. Maybe it'll remove the stigma around wearing Crocs too.' Julie Cameron, associate director for Scotland at the Mental Health Foundation, said: 'We're incredibly grateful to Danny for taking on this challenge, raising both awareness and vital funds for the Mental Health Foundation. 'His message encouraging people, especially men, to talk about their struggles and seek support is more important than ever. 'While awareness has grown, stigma still holds many back from opening up about their struggles. 'Normalising conversations around mental health is crucial, and if an architect running a 10k in Crocs sparks those discussions, that's a win.'

Weather conditions play spoilsport on inaugural day of Indian Open of Surfing
Mangalore (Karnataka) [India], May 30 (ANI): The opening day of the 6th NMPA Indian Open of Surfing, scheduled to take place at Tannirbhavi Eco Beach, was called off today without any competition due to heavy rainfall and unsafe sea conditions resulting from early onset of monsoons and the cyclonic activity in the Arabian Sea. After early morning assessments revealed high swells and erratic wave patterns far exceeding safe competition levels, the organisers, including the Surfing Federation of India, Mantra Surf Club, and Surfing Swami Foundation, made the precautionary decision to postpone the day's events. The three-day premier surfing competition is the second stop of the National Surfing Championship Series 2025. It is being organised by Surfing Swami Foundation and hosted by Mantra Surf Club under the aegis of the Surfing Federation of India. Earlier this week, due to forecasted adverse weather conditions, the organising committee took the precautionary decision to shift the event venue from Sasihithlu Beach to Tannirbhavi Eco Beach. However, the weather remained unfavorable, with persistent heavy rainfall thwarting any competitive activity on day one, even at the revised location, as per a press release. Day two of the national championship will feature over 50 top surfers, such as Ramesh Budhial, Kishore Kumar, Ajeesh Ali, Harish Muthu, Kamali P, Shrishti Selvam, and Sinchana Gowda, battling it out in four categories: Men's Open, Women's Open, Groms (U-16) Boys, and Groms (U-16) Girls. 'All participants assembled at the venue by 8 a.m. this morning, marking the commencement of day one of the event. The weather unfolded as forecasted, with heavy rain but minimal wind. Despite the inclement weather, the day was efficiently utilized for the registration process and distribution of event kits, including t-shirts and access bands. A detailed surfers' briefing was subsequently conducted, during which participants were familiarised with the venue and provided with an overview of the schedule and expectations for the upcoming days. While weather conditions limited activity today, we remain optimistic that tomorrow will bring improved conditions, allowing for the commencement of competitive sessions on the water,' said Rammohan Paranjape, Vice President, Surfing Federation of India. 'Today's conditions proved very challenging. After careful assessment, we found the sea too rough and the intervals between waves too short, making it extremely difficult for surfers to paddle out safely. On top of that, intermittent rain reduced visibility significantly. Considering these factors, we made the decision to call off today's session in the interest of safety. Fortunately, tomorrow's forecast looks more promising, and we hope to resume as planned', said, Nawaz Jabbar, Contest Director, NMPA IOS The NMPA Indian Open of Surfing is presented by Karnataka Tourism, powered by Cycle Pure Agarbathies, and supported by New Mangalore Port Authority. Massimiliano Allegri joins AC Milan after Conceicao's sacking
Milan: AC Milan have appointed Massimiliano Allegri as their new head coach after confirming the departure of Sergio Conceicao on Thursday. Allegri returned to the side having previously worked with them for a four-year stint between 2010-14, where he led them to Serie A title in 2010/11 before lifting the Italian Supercup the next year. "AC Milan is pleased to announce that Massimiliano Allegri has been appointed as the Head Coach of the Men's First Team. The Club extends a warm welcome and best wishes to Massimiliano and his staff," posted Milan. Allegri's latest tenure as head coach was at Juventus from 2021 to 2024, which was his second stint with the side . In his first stint, he won five consecutive Serie A titles from 2014-15 to 2018-19 and steered the team to the Champions League final twice. But in stark contrast, during his second journey with the Old Lady, Juve only claimed one trophy before he was sacked in May 2024. He was sent off during the Coppa Italia final between Juve and Atalanta. He followed it with a controversial press conference criticising officials and sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli which saw him being sacked. Milan have reappointed Allegri after Conceicao's five-month tenure has left them reeling without any European football next season. AC Milan finished eighth in the Italian first division having won only 18 of their 38 league games this season. The Portuguese replaced countryman Paulo Fonseca in December 2024, and led them to victory over rivals Inter Milan in the Italian Super Cup but were shockingly eliminated from the UEFA Champions League by Dutch side Feyenoord in the play-off round. Their chances of ending the season with silverware ended with the loss against Bologna in the final of the Coppa Italia.
