Lured, shot: Man charged with ambush on tradie linked to Sam ‘The Punisher' Abdulrahim
A man has been charged over the 'targeted' daylight shooting of an unsuspecting tradie, who was allegedly lured to an address before a bullet was fired through his ankle. Police revealed on Thursday, 10 months on from the shooting in Fawkner in Melbourne's north, that they have charged a 19-year-old Coburg man over the attack, as well as an earlier alleged home invasion in Deer Park. Police released footage earlier this year of the shooting on October 3, 2024, that showed a white 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC43 rounding a roundabout, then parking on Denys Street in Fawkner, at about 9am. The victim, a 49-year-old tradie from Lalor and an alleged associate of gunned-down underworld figure Sam 'The Punisher' Abdulrahim, arrived about half an hour later, having been allegedly lured there under the guise of providing a quote to fix a fence. The footage showed the victim walking up a footpath before a figure dressed in black ran up behind him and fired a quick shot, which went through his left ankle, then into his right foot. It sent him to the ground roaring and writhing in pain. The man's bellows rang out on the suburban street as another car, just passing by, approached. By the time paramedics showed up, the footpath was soaked in blood. 'Investigators will allege a 49-year-old Lalor man had been lured to the address under the pretence of providing a quote for a trades job,' Victoria Police said in a statement on Thursday. 'Police believe the incident was targeted. The investigation remains ongoing.' The shooting victim was one in a long line of targets on the receiving end of a firebomb, bullet or threat allegedly because of their association with Abdulrahim, who was shot dead in January this year.
