Canadian Grand Prix 2025 results: Mercedes driver George Russell wins from pole, Kimi Antonelli joins him on podium for the first time
Image credit: Mercedes Mercedes star George Russell won the pole and also the race at the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal on Sunday. This is his first win of the season, though he has quite a few podiums in his kitty. He started on the grid alongside Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who ended up number two after a close battle. It was a double win for Mercedes, as Kimi Antonelli ended in third position and secured his first podium in his rookie season. George Russell beats Max Verstappen to win Canadian Grand Prix Russell had won the pole in qualifying on Saturday and kept his focus to maintain his lead till the end, with Verstappen in tow throughout. This was Russell's sixth pole in his career and his second consecutive pole in Canada, after achieving the feat last season as well. Last year too, Max Verstappen was second on the grid but had stolen the win from Russell despite the latter's pole position. Speaking to the media after the win, Russell said as per Formula 1, "It is amazing to be back on the top step. I felt last year was a victory lost, so to get the victory and see Kimi on the podium too is an amazing day for the team. I think the strength of our car is in the cooler conditions so let's see in the coming races, but let's enjoy this for now. Good day, good day!" Kimi also said, "It was so stressful! In the last stint I pushed a bit too hard, killed the front left so I was happy to bring the podium home.' McLaren, however, seemed slower than their counterparts on Canadian soil, as Oscar Piastri ended in fourth position. As the race neared the finish line, he had a clash with his own teammate, Lando Norris. Taking it in his stride, Norris said on team radio, 'It's all my bad. All my fault" and retired from the race.
