Is Barry Keoghan the 'Manchild' in Sabrina Carpenter's latest break-up track?

Sabrina Carpenter's new song Manchild, has been the source of much speculation since its release last week, with the rumour-mill in overdrive about whether the lyrics refer to her ex-boyfriend, Irish actor Barry Keoghan. Carpenter, for her part, has been deliberately vague about who inspired the song, which includes choice lyrics such as: ' Man-child Why you always come a-running to me?Fuck my lifeWon't you let an innocent woman be? Never heard of self-care Barry Keoghan and Sabrina Carpenter were dating for some time. Never heard of self-careHalf your brain just ain't thereMan-child Why you always come a-running, taking all my loving from m e.' Instead, the American sweetheart posted something opaque, just enough, to both calm and swell the divide over the subject of the song. While some quarters are resolute in their belief that Manchild is in fact about Dublin actor Barry Keoghan, another half are equally convinced the song is about 'ALL MEN'. BARRY Keoghan, Sabrina Carpenter 'It's not just about one man, it's all ALL MEN,' shrieked one particularly omnipotent fan. But Carpenter isn't the first artist to be mysteriously vague about a former flame, who either inspired or incensed them, to the extent that they were compelled to memorialise their relationship in song. Indeed the mystique behind the music can be a very useful tool for fans to invest in the song and keep it in the charts. By blurring the lines about the boy behind the lyrics, Carpenter is helping keep Manchild in the charts and on people's playlists, as they seek to dissect every single word and chord to see if they can decipher some unwritten enigma. (Photo by) While others have more to be doing with their time, the very fact is, that this is a very smart industry trick that has played out to super success for decades. The unarguable maestro of the anonymous 'man-in-music' is American singer Carly Simon, whose iconic track You're so Vain is still a talking point. In fact, now over a half a century since Carly Simon's You're so Vain 1972 release, people are still divided on who is so vain they merited being immortalised in musical lore. Warren Beatty Hollywood actor Warren Beatty, who Simon had been dating around the time she penned the track, has been in the frame since the song first entered the pop charts way back in 1972. Despite being perpetually peppered to put to rest the speculation, it took Carly Simon a full forty years to give a confirmation of-sorts, telling the publication People in a 2015 interview, 'I have confirmed that the second verse is Warren', but she said the other verses refer to two other men. Until this very day, over 60 years after the release of You're So Vain, Simon still hasn't divulged the identity of the other two vain chaps she chirps about in the song. So poor Barry Keoghan may have to wait a very long time if he suspects this song is about him; or not.

Williams' inbox: Bad look for Joe Burrow to miss Cincinnati Bengals practice for Met Gala?

Ask columnist Jason Williams anything − sports or non-sports – and he'll pick some of your questions and comments from his inbox and respond on Email: jwilliams@ Subject: Joe Burrow misses Cincinnati Bengals practice for Met Gala Message: Call me old school, but I didn't like that (Joe) Burrow missed the team's practice to be at the Met Gala. I get it's optional, but Tee (Higgins) and Ja'Marr (Chase) were there. Don't you think it would've sent a strong message to the fans and rookies for Burrow to be there, too? Advertisement Reply: It really wasn't a big deal. Burrow was back at Paycor Stadium for voluntary practice on Wednesday. Yeah, I understand it may have looked odd for a hard-working, team-first superstar like Burrow to miss practice for a New York City fashion show. Here in flyover country, we don't really like our sports heroes showing up on the red carpet. But it's early May and Burrow has certainly built up enough locker-room goodwill that no one inside the Bengals organization is questioning his priorities. He also gave the team a heads up that he would miss the first few voluntary team sessions. Burrow is expected to attend most of the practices over the next month. Now, if you want to question Burrow's fashion sense, have at it. Dude wears some ugly stuff, although I liked the classy suit he wore at the Met Gala. Advertisement And before the fake-name, costume-wearing Bengals fans take to social media and rip me, I'm joking. Burrow can wear whatever the heck he wants. It's not hurting me. Just like it didn't bother me one bit when he posed for a photo with Donald Trump last year. Liberty stars' reveling in Met Gala spotlight included Anne Hathaway game invitation

Sabrina Ionescu didn't know what to expect Monday as she was getting ready for the Met Gala at The Surrey, a luxury hotel on the Upper East Side, alongside her Liberty teammates Breanna Stewart and Jonquel Jones. The three WNBA champions along with Liberty owner Clara Wu Tsai are obviously no strangers to the spotlight. They have been in rooms with important people. But the Met Gala is different. Getty Images for The Met Museum/Vogue It's the biggest night in fashion and a magnet for celebrities. Each year on the first Monday in May, the biggest names in fashion, art, sports and cultural influence descend on New York City and flock to the largest art museum in the Americas. It's highly exclusive, too. Without an invite, a single ticket costs $75,000 to attend. 'You hear about it,' Stewart said, 'and we were able to actually be a part of it.' Advertisement Monday marked the third straight year WNBA players graced the event. Brittney Griner became the first WNBA player to attend in 2023 — only months removed from being released from a Russian prison. And Angel Reese made her Met Gala debut last year. But the Liberty's representation Monday night was another sign of the magnification of women's basketball. Advertisement '[Attending the Met Gala] just means that we are breaking more into that space of notoriety and that the game is growing,' Jones said Wednesday. 'I'm happy that I'm in the WNBA in this era, where we can kind of be a part of things that are so cool obviously. And … get that recognition and know that as female basketball players, we're able to enter those spaces that we've seen our male counterparts enter before.' 4 Left to right: Jonquel Jones, Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu and Clara Wu Tsai attend the 2025 Met Gala Celebrating 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style' at Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 5, 2025 in New York City. They arrived at the hotel around 9 a.m. but didn't leave for the blue carpet that drapes over the iconic steps leading up to the museum until after 5 p.m. Advertisement Each wore custom couture outfits, designed by Sergio Hudson and styled by Courtney Mays, that were months in the making and tailored to this year's theme: 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.' Walking the carpet was somewhat nerve-racking. Blinding lights flashed from every direction as the players took turns posing at various stops along the way to the museum entrance. 4 Anne Hathaway attends the 2025 Met Gala Celebrating 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style' at Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 05, 2025 Getty Images for The Met Museum/Vogue At the top of the stairs, they were greeted by Pharrell Williams and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. Once inside, they walked through the new exhibit, centered on black dandyism that's set to open to the general public Saturday. They also chatted with other attendees. Stewart was most excited to see Rihanna, A$AP Rocky and Wintour. She even invited Anne Hathaway to a Liberty game this season. Ionescu fangirled over Omar Sy from the Netflix series 'Lupin.' She also met Serena Williams and Simone Biles, whom she called 'female icons' that she's admired for a long time now. 4 Megan Thee Stallion and Angel Reese attend the 2025 Met Gala Celebrating 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style' at Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 5, 2025 in New York The Met Museum/Vogue Advertisement Jones chatted with Megan Thee Stallion, Zendaya and Coco Jones. 'I was talking to everybody,' Jones said. 'Honestly I was walking around the cocktail session just yapping.' The party moved into a larger hall, where dinner was served. Usher and Stevie Wonder were this year's performers. Advertisement All in all, it was an incredible night. 'The best part was being able to share with my teammates as well as Clara,' Ionescu said. 'It was beautiful from kind of start to finish. I was just happy to just be there, kind of be able to just see everyone I'm normally seeing on TV, actors, actresses, singers, artists, designers, and just being able to be all in a room with powerful people who kind of put their stamp on what it is they're doing and their profession is special.'

Why Tailored Menswear On Black Women Stole The Met Gala's Spotlight

Janelle Monáe attends the Met Gala Celebrating "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style" at Metropolitan ... More Museum of Art in New York City. This year, the Met Gala saw a lot of tailored menswear on Black women, which signals a shift in fashion's approach to how gender and power are represented and understood. Although androgyny in style has arguably always been a go-to aesthetic in high-end fashion, the sight of Black women reclaiming traditionally male-coded clothing at one of the industry's most visible events signaled a clear shift. These were not women dressing 'like men,' but women using menswear to expand the boundaries of femininity and presence. The most standout fashion statements this year weren't lavish gowns or avant-garde silhouettes. Instead, high fashion paired with tailored menswear, worn predominantly by Black women, set the tone for the night's aesthetic. Zendaya attends the Met Gala Celebrating "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style" at Metropolitan Museum ... More of Art in New York City. The 2025 Gala theme, 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,' created a rare opportunity for the industry to center Black design, technique and historical influence. In response, many high-profile Black women opted for variations of menswear as intentional references to history and expressions of modern autonomy. Throughout fashion history, tailored style has often represented power, esteem and credibility. Suits have represented status in Western contexts, particularly within professional and political environments. Yet, access to those visual symbols has not been equitably distributed for decades. At the 2025 Gala, Black women address these dynamics head-on, not through rhetoric, but through presentation. This was reflected with subtlety and edge in some of the Gala's most talked-about looks. With a crimson tailored outfit that included a cape, cane, and dramatic plume, Teyana Taylor combined Afro-diasporic pageantry with Edwardian menswear. Zendaya embraced minimalism as power with her white three-piece suit and wide-brimmed hat. Janelle Monáe took it a step further in a boxy Thom Browne pinstripe suit, layered with red and white graphics and accessorized with a monocle, blurring fashion, satire, and performance and adding a playful, vintage-industrial edge that doubled down on the Dandyism-meets-performance-art energy of the outfit. Teyana Taylor attends the 2025 Met Gala Celebrating "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style" at ... More Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. These fashion choices rejected the simplistic interpretations that often equate tailored clothing with masculinity. Each look preserved and expressed individuality, femininity, heritage and intention. The tailoring created visibility rather than subduing it, and in doing so, the stars proved that structure does not always mean conformity, and minimalism does not always mean invisibility. The timing of all of this also makes a difference. Recently, conversations around workplace equity, public visibility and cultural ownership have repeatedly been referenced across industries and these fashion statements resonate beyond the red carpet to reinforce the idea that style, when taken in the right context, can act as a form of personal branding and cultural commentary. The 2025 Met Gala offered a space where Black women were not just invited to participate in fashion's most exclusive night, but where they audaciously set its tone.
