Simone Inzaghi signs to coach Saudi club Al-Hilal after leaving Inter Milan
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — Simone Inzaghi took over as head coach of Al-Hilal on Wednesday, a day after leaving Inter Milan and two weeks before the Saudi Arabian club's first game at the Club World Cup. Inzaghi signed a two-year deal after Al-Hilal lured him with an offer of reportedly more than 20 million euros ($23 million) per season. 'The Italian genius is here,' the Saudi club said in a social media post. Inter was routed 5-0 by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final last Saturday, marking the most lopsided defeat in the 70-year history of major European finals. The 49-year-old Inzaghi coached Inter to the Serie A title last year and was also in charge when the Nerazzurri lost the 2023 Champions League title to Manchester City. He was at Inter for four years. Al-Hilal opens its Club World Cup campaign against Real Madrid on June 18 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. ___ AP soccer:

Miami Gardens Soul + Caribbean Food Festival makes its debut
The spirit of wellness, unity, and empowerment came alive today as the Miami Gardens Soul + Caribbean Food Festival debuted at the Betty T. Ferguson Amphitheater this weekend. The inaugural event welcomed over 2,000 attendees and featured a vibrant mix of music, wellness activities, shopping, and delicious food — all aimed at nurturing the mind, body, and soul. With more than 50 local vendors on site, the festival provided a platform for holistic professionals to share their knowledge and products while highlighting the cultural richness of the community. The event was sponsored by Miami Gardens City Council Vice Mayor Robert Stephens III, who partnered with The Hungry Black Man and the Center for Black Innovation. "It's very important that we have this event in our community to showcase our local talent, our local vendors," said one participant. "You don't have to drive to South Beach — sometimes homegrown talent is here," added Chef Kriss Kofi, Founder of Dub N Grub. Family-owned businesses were at the heart of the celebration. From healthy eats to handcrafted items, attendees were treated to a marketplace rooted in community and care. "My favorite part is we're supporting local businesses," shared another vendor. "We're family — we're from Sunshine Meat Market — and there's other families here with their local business." The festival hosted food competitions, giving local culinary artists a chance to shine. Winners walked away with a $500 prize.

DeSantis seeks to avoid repeat of Copa America chaos with new trespassing law
Gov. Ron DeSantis on Friday signed eight bills, including a trespassing measure that takes aim at unruly sports fans and a bill that will allow wine to be sold in more containers. The trespassing bill (HB 1447) includes third-degree felony charges for people who, without authorization, enter or remain in ticketed events of more than 5,000 people. The law, which took effect immediately, was crafted in response to the 2024 Copa America final, an international soccer match at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens that was delayed nearly 90 minutes as thousands of fans without tickets rushed past security. The wine bill (SB 578), which will take effect July 1, will allow the sale of wine in any container of 5.16 gallons. Current law limits such 5.16-gallon sales to reusable containers.

Deaths of Miami Gardens couple in house fire ruled murder-suicide, police say
Detectives now say the deaths of a married Miami Gardens couple in a May 7 house fire were the result of a murder-suicide, adding a heartbreaking turn to a tragedy that has left family members searching for answers. Couple, beloved pets perish fire Rhonda Spencer, a 65-year-old supervisor with the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department and her husband of 20 years, Timothy Fordham, 59, died in the fire that engulfed their home near Hard Rock Stadium at Northwest 20th Avenue and 185th Terrace around 3:30 a.m. The couple's beloved dogs, a male and female poodle aged 4 and 5, also perished in the flames. The sole survivor, their nephew Tamonjamin Williams, said the ceiling collapsed on him during the fire. He recounted that a neighbor told him he was found on the roof, though he's unsure how he got there. Williams said he called out for his aunt and uncle but could not find them in the chaos. Witness accounts add to mystery One neighbor told CBS News Miami that he reported hearing gunshots to Miami Gardens police before the blaze erupted. Roberts said neighbors also described a series of loud, strange noises just before the fire. "Neighbors heard like a pop, then they heard a first explosion, and after that explosion they heard another pop and a big explosion," she said. "We don't know what that pop was." A sister's grief and a legacy of kindness CBS News Miami spoke with Rhonda Spencer's sister, Levaris Roberts, who expressed her deep sorrow over the incident. Roberts remembered her sister as a woman of deep compassion and generosity. "That's my sister," she said. "She helped everybody. This girl, if she saw somebody who needed help, she would give them help. She would go to church all day and stay in church. She never let our mom and dad stay in a nursing home because she wanted to take care of them at home."
