American Airlines Just Added New Routes to Mexico and the Caribbean—See the Full List

'Tis the season to plan holiday travel. American Airlines recently announced an expanded holiday schedule, with new or increased routes to popular vacation destinations including the British Virgin Islands, Dominican Republic, and Mexico. "American Airlines is giving travelers the perfect gift for Christmas in July with new routes and more flights to popular destinations in Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America this winter," the airline shared in a news release. The new routes include daily service between Chicago (ORD) to Mexico City (MEX) starting on Oct. 26, 2025, as well as holiday service from Chicago to Queretaro, Mexico (QRO) from Dec. 18, 2025 through Jan. 5, 2026. Additionally, the carrier is increasing its frequency of flights from Philadelphia (PHL) to Aruba (AUA); San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU); and St. Maarten (SXM) to as many as three daily flights. It is also launching a new daily service between Philadelphia and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (SDQ). The airline's hub at Miami International Airport (MIA) will see a surge of new flight frequencies, including the Bahamas (MHH, ELH); Kingston, Jamaica (KIN); and San Juan (SJU). The airline is also increasing its frequency to Tortola, British Virgin Islands (EIS) to five daily flights. While the airline announced the new routes and schedules, tickets won't be available for purchase until July 14 on American's website or through travel agents. For travelers looking to save on airline travel, experts recommend booking about three months in advance for domestic trips, and more than no later than three months for international trips. Travelers can also save by flying into nearby airports, or booking on off-peak days. 'As the leading U.S. airline in Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America, at American we're focused on growing our network, giving our customers access to their favorite destinations in the region—from the tropical paradise of Puerto Rico to the dynamic and cosmopolitan city of Mexico City, and beyond,' José A. Freig, Vice President of International and Inflight Dining Operations at American, said in a release. 'With these new routes and additional flying, next winter we'll operate 10% more seats than the previous year, a testament to our commitment to the region and our customers.'

Autonomous air taxis are revving up in Miami—here's what to know

Self-flying taxis might sound like something out of The Jetsons, but in true Miami fashion, the future is coming in hot. Miami International Airport is set to become one of the first U.S. hubs to explore autonomous air taxis, thanks to a flashy new partnership between Miami-Dade County and Wisk Aero, an Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) company backed by Boeing and Google co-founder Larry Page. Here's the flight plan: Wisk and the Miami-Dade Aviation Department signed a deal in June to start prepping for takeoff. That means identifying key locations, including MIA, Opa-locka Executive and Miami Executive Airports, for 'vertiports' where these electric, self-flying aircraft can land, lift off and shuttle passengers across South Florida without the hassle of highways. No county funds are being used to get the project off the ground. Wisk's sixth-generation model is designed to seat four people (plus luggage), lifts off like a helicopter, cruises like a plane and flies without a pilot. But don't worry—each flight is monitored by a human on the ground from a command center. And while these futuristic rides won't replace your Uber tomorrow, Wisk hopes to earn FAA certification by 2030. The goal is to make zipping from Miami to Fort Lauderdale as easy (and affordable) as calling a car, minus the bumper-to-bumper crawl on I-95. Each aircraft can fly about 90 miles on a single charge and the company's targeting prices on par with rideshares. This isn't Miami's first brush with next-gen tech: MIA has also rolled out autonomous wheelchairs and navigation apps for visually impaired travelers. Now, with Wisk on board, the city is leaning all the way into its 'tech hub meets tropical playground' identity. The University of Miami is also joining the party. Through its Engineering and Aviation Mobility Initiative, the school will work with Wisk on research and development, focusing on operations, regulations, safety and battery technologies.

Create Account Jim Niven, who lives in Costa Rica, said he was travelling on July 2 with girls he has legal guardianship over to visit his three adult children in Denver — where he is originally from — and to work on the custody process. Niven said the two girls — ages 13 and 15 — were born in Colombia and only speak Spanish. They were adopted by a Colorado family and are American citizens. However, the unnamed couple relinquished their guardianship of the girls. After getting off the plane, Niven said he was met by officers with the Denver Police Department and was told a United Airlines flight attendant had flagged the family and alleged he drugged the girls and was trafficking them. '… This was only because they don't look like me and they don't speak English.' Niven said he translated for the girls during the flight when asked what they wanted to eat and drink. He didn't notice anything out of the ordinary during the trip, he added. The cops separated Niven from the girls in front of other passengers and asked him if he was trafficking them, Niven said. He showed them the guardianship papers before he was brought to a border patrol office for further questioning. 'The girls were traumatized,' Niven said. RECOMMENDED VIDEO Denver Police said a man was questioned upon arrival in the city July 2 and it was determined he didn't commit a crime. 'United Airlines personnel suspected human trafficking and referred the travellers to the Denver Police Department, who requested assistance from (U.S. Customs and Border Protection),' a customs spokesperson said in a statement. 'CBP takes accusations of human trafficking seriously and officers did their due diligence to question the traveller. The accusations were unfounded.' A United Airlines spokesperson said the company followed up with the customer to offer an apology. Niven said he and his wife are working on trying to adopt the girls. Famous rapper is handcuffed and arrested while trying to board a flight in Miami

Rapper Trippie Redd was arrested and dragged out of Miami International Airport as he tried to board a flight to France. The Florida-based performer, born Michael Lamar White, was picked up on an active warrant relating to a 2023 incident, according to a police report seen by NBC News. The 26-year-old was listed in the lineup for Les Ardentes, a festival taking place in Belgium on Saturday. It is understood he had an active Miami-Dade County warrant related to an invalid driver's license case. Customs and Border Protection flagged the warrant as he went to board the flight to Europe on Thursday afternoon, sparking his arrest. Video captured of the arrest shows White being handcuffed as he was surrounded by at least seven officers. He responded without incident, but a crowd had gathered and were shouting at the officers as White was dragged out of the airport. He was allegedly released on a $150 bond. After his release, Redd went back to posting on X as fans desperately await an update on new music. 'Get ready I'm coming different this time on my life all in house work,' he assured them. The rapper's debut album, Life's a Trip, was released in August 2018 and soared to number four on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. He has been performing on the festival circuit, recently appearing at Rolling Loud in Miami Gardens.

‘No Food, Handcuffed, Treated Like Cattle': Newlywed Bride Recounts US Detention Ordeal

In her first remarks since being released earlier this week from US immigration detention after spending over four months in custody, a 22-year-old Palestinian woman, who was married to a US citizen, said that she was denied basic rights and subjected to harsh treatment while in custody. Ward Sakeik (22), was born in Saudi Arabia but doesn't hold citizenship in any country. She has lived in the United States since the age of 8, but was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials in February at the Miami International Airport after returning from her honeymoon in the US Virgin Islands with her husband, Taahir Shaikh, a US citizen.
