'One-of-a-kind person': Retired Stoughton police officer, Marine, dies unexpectedly at 64

STOUGHTON — A retired Stoughton police officer and U.S. Marine Corps veteran died unexpectedly at the age of 64 on Thursday, April 3. Michael J. Doyle, a resident of Canton, worked as a Stoughton police officer for 25 years before his retirement in 2021, according to the Stoughton Police Department. Before he joined the department in 1996, Doyle served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 14 years as an aviation mechanic, according to his obituary. 'He was a one-of-a-kind person who always had a smile on his face and a small Dunkin Donuts coffee in his hand,' the Stoughton Police Department wrote in a post announcing his death on Facebook. 'Mike kept us all entertained with his hilarious stories about his time in the Marine Corps and his irrational fear of dogs. Every officer that had the privilege to work with him has at least one 'Doyle story' that they love to retell.' Outside of work, Doyle loved antique cars and traveling, but according to his obituary, his greatest joy was spending time with his family.
