Michigan in 'ongoing discussions' to play 2026 home game vs. Western Michigan in Frankfurt, Germany

Could Michigan play its first international game in program history in 2026? The school said Friday that it was in "ongoing discussions" to host its season opener against Western Michigan in Germany. The game would be held at Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt on Aug. 29. The soccer stadium hosted two NFL games in November of 2023 when the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Miami Dolphins and the Indianapolis Colts beat the New England Patriots. "We are in advanced discussions to create this first-of-its-kind opportunity for our student-athletes and fans," Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel said in a statement. "The University of Michigan is one of the few worldwide brands in college athletics and the interest in playing an international game would be unique. This would be a great opportunity to teach 'Go Blue' to a new group of fans in Germany." The game is currently scheduled for Sept. 5. If it's played in Germany, it will be in Week 0, as the official opening weekend of the 2026 season is a week later than it is in 2025 thanks to the date of Labor Day. Michigan's likely move to play in Europe comes as college programs are now regularly hosting games on the other side of the Atlantic. The 2025 season kicks off with Kansas State and Iowa State in Dublin. A year ago, Georgia Tech took down Florida State in Dublin in a harbinger of bad things to come for the Seminoles in 2024. The game between Michigan and Western Michigan would be the second international game of the 2026 season. North Carolina and TCU are playing in Dublin after the two teams play in Chapel Hill in Week 1 in 2025. That game will be the first of the Bill Belichick era at North Carolina. The game between the Wolverines and Broncos is set to be just the seventh meeting for the schools. They first met in 2001 and Michigan has won all six contests by a combined score of 234 to 67.

Michigan's 2025 schedule looks easier, but Week 2 at Oklahoma is key, says ESPN

Michigan football had a brutal schedule in 2024, to say the least, but it looks much easier -- at least on paper -- entering 2025. Last year, the Wolverines faced Texas, Oregon, Indiana, and Ohio State -- all College Football Playoff teams. Meanwhile, Illinois was better than anticipated, and though USC and Washington weren't, both were still tough games. This year, however, only one of the teams on the schedule was a CFP team, national champion Ohio State -- who the maize and blue beat in Columbus, 13-10. So what is that game that will tell you everything you need to know about the upcoming season? ESPN says, for Michigan, that game comes in Week 2. Swing game: at Oklahoma, Sept. 6 The Wolverines head to Oklahoma in Week 2 to face Sherrone Moore's alma mater. Beating Ohio State for a fourth straight time salvaged last season for the Wolverines, who had to surge late in the year just to secure a winning record in Moore's first full season as head coach. Michigan will have bigger expectations in 2025, especially with the arrival of five-star freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood. If the Wolverines can knock off the Sooners in Norman, they'll be sending a statement that they're potentially ready to contend for a playoff spot again. But if the Wolverines fall to Oklahoma, they could then have to weather a proposed two-game suspension for Moore, which includes a trip to Nebraska on Sept. 20, just to keep their postseason hopes afloat early. Given that the regular season has taken something of a hit with the expanded playoff, Oklahoma should provide some answers one way or the other, but losing that game would not be the be-all, end-all -- especially since it is a nonconference matchup. So, if not Oklahoma, what's our pick for the big swing game? USC. Though we'll have a pretty good idea of what the Wolverines are in 2025, considering they'll play in Norman and in Lincoln, the road trip to USC should provide even more answers. Say Michigan loses to both Nebraska and Oklahoma. The third (of six) road game of the season ending up in the win column could salvage the year, especially as the only seeming challenges after are at home vs. Washington and Ohio State. Considering that the Wolverines have historically not done well when traveling cross-country in the regular season, it would be a grand reversal of fortunes. Either way, it's not a difficult schedule on paper when you look at the opponents -- Oklahoma has not exactly lit things up under Brent Venables. Yet, considering every other game is on the road, it could provide some issues for a team that's thought to be starting a freshman quarterback. Michigan football predicted to land top OT target

The post Michigan football predicted to land top OT target appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Michigan football team is scorching hot on the recruiting trail, and more commitments are coming. The Wolverines have already landed three prospects this week, and a few more are expected to roll in throughout the next few days. One player who Michigan is expected to land is four-star offensive tackle Malakai Lee, who received a prediction to commit to the Wolverines. This would be a big add for head coach Sherrone Moore. Advertisement 'FONG BOMB: On3's @SWiltfong_has logged an expert prediction for Michigan to land 4-star OT Malakai Lee,' On3 Recruits said in a post. Malakai Lee will be announcing his commitment on Friday, and the Michigan football team is one of his top options. He is also considering Alabama, Georgia and Texas. Lee is a four-star recruit, according to 247Sports. He is the #137 player in the 2026 recruiting class, the #10 OT and the #2 player in the state of Hawaii. Lee currently attends Kamehameha High School in Honolulu, HI. Michigan is a big change from the island life. 'From a traits standpoint, offensive linemen don't come much better looking than Lee,' Lee's scouting report reads. 'He's all of 6-6, 325 pounds with verified 36' arms and an 85'+ wingspan. He's a fluid mover as well and has the feet, balance and frame to project as a tackle and could line up on either side, right or left in college. He plays a little hoops as well and checks off the multi-sport box for us.' Advertisement A lot of great offensive lineman have come through Michigan in recent years, and Lee could be the next. 'He uses his length well and has the ability to slide and mirror opposing edge rushers,' the scouting report continues. 'He has added some physicality in the run game over the last year. He's putting guys on their backs more but playing with a more aggressive edge to him is an area we think Lee can still improve on. Saying that, he's an easy high Power 4 prospect and if he hits his ceiling, he will be playing football for a very long time.' The Michigan football team is expecting multiple commitments in the coming days, and Malakai Lee is announcing his decision on Friday. It feels like good news is coming for the Wolverines. Michigan football gains ground on 4-star DT Deuce Geralds, who sets Aug. 2 commitment date

Michigan football recruiting was on an absolute tear in the month of June and the start of July, but now, many of the remaining top targets are slowing things down as they decide if they want to play in Ann Arbor or elsewhere. One of the prospects that the Wolverines hosted for an official visit was 2026 Suwanee (Ga.) Collins Hill four-star defensive tackle Deuce Geralds, who took a midweek visit just before Victors Weekend. It had appeared as if the maize and blue weren't in the best position for Geralds, but after his trip to Ann Arbor, Michigan appears to have surged. But will it be enough? Geralds teased a big announcement on Wednesday and it turned out it was his commitment date (and not a commitment). With five schools in contention, Geralds will announce his school of choice on August 2. While Ohio State, LSU, and Ole Miss all made the cut, this appears to be a Michigan vs. Oregon battle. Given that he's not deciding today, that's perhaps good news for Lou Esposito and the Wolverines, as the Ducks probably have a slight lead at the moment. Michigan does have something of a logjam along the defensive line at the moment, with two defensive tackles (four-stars Alister Vallejo and Titan Davis) and four edge rushers (five-star Carter Meadows, four-stars McHale Blade and Julian Walker, and three-star Tariq Boney) all pledged. Geralds is rated the No. 73 player in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite. This article originally appeared on Wolverines Wire: Michigan target Deuce Geralds sets commitment date
