Shohei Ohtani hit into a triple play, then hit a homer in Dodgers loss
With Miguel Rojas on second base and Dalton Rushing on first, Ohtani hit a liner up the middle that shortstop Zach Neto snagged. Neto then forced out Rojas at second and threw to first base to catch Rushing scrambling back to the bag. The third triple play of the 2025 season was the Angels' first triple play since Aug. 18, 2023 and the eighth in franchise history. With the score tied at 5-5 entering the ninth inning, Ohtani led off the inning with a home run off of Angels closer (and former Dodger) Kenley Jansen. Ohtani has hit home runs in four consecutive games. The Dodgers called on Alex Vesia to close out the game, but a bases-loaded sacrifice fly by Nolan Schanuel scored Luis Rengifo to tie up the game. The Angels held the Dodgers scoreless in the top of the 10th inning, and then won the game when Jo Adell's single scored the "ghost runner" Taylor Ward. Ohtani takes the mound Wednesday as the Dodgers will look to avoid a series sweep against the Angels. A three-game losing streak by the Dodgers has allowed the San Diego Padres to move into a first-place tie atop the NL West. The Dodgers host the Padres for a three-game series this weekend. 2025 MLB home run leaders

Dodgers Veteran Infielder Issues 4-Word Statement on Team's Recent Form
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Los Angeles Dodgers have lost six games in a row entering Friday, and their lead in the National League West is shrinking. Frustrations are mounting, and the reinforcements that will be brought in at the deadline can't get here soon enough. However, veteran infielder Miguel Rojas knows the team can control its fate right now. LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - JULY 05: Miguel Rojas #72 of the Los Angeles Dodgers walks in the sixth inning against the Houston Astros at Dodger Stadium on July 05, 2025 in Los Angeles, California. LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - JULY 05: Miguel Rojas #72 of the Los Angeles Dodgers walks in the sixth inning against the Houston Astros at Dodger Stadium on July 05, 2025 in Los Angeles, California."We have to do better," Rojas told Jack Harris of the Los Anegeles Times. "We gotta find ways to be a complete team that we know we can be." The offense has been the primary issue for the Dodgers over the last two series. They've scored two runs or fewer in five of the last six games. It hasn't been pretty for Los Angeles to say the least, and Rojas didn't hold back on his assessment of the team. "We can't really feel sorry about ourselves, because there's a lot of season left, and we know what we're looking for," Rojas said, per Harris. "We're looking to win another championship, and playing this kind of baseball is not gonna get us there." Los Angeles has been without several key players this season such as Max Muncy and Teoscar Hernandez. While both players are working to come back, their returns can't come soon enough. However, manager Dave Roberts isn't changing his expectations. "We've just got to put some at-bats together, keep playing good defense and it'll turn," Roberts told the LA Times. "When you're mired in it, it's frustrating. But we still have some pretty good players." The Dodgers have a tough series starting Friday night on the road against the San Francisco Giants. Things could quickly go from bad to worse for the Dodgers heading into the All Star break unless they turn it around quickly. Clayton Kershaw wins 3rd straight start, Miguel Rojas homers in Dodgers' 6-5 win over Nationals
Clayton Kershaw persevered through five tough innings to win his third consecutive start, and Miguel Rojas hit a two-run homer in the Los Angeles Dodgers' 6-5 victory over the Washington Nationals on Friday night. Kiké Hernández had two doubles and scored two runs, and Shohei Ohtani added an RBI single for the defending World Series champions. Los Angeles has won six of seven, improving to 6-2 on its 10-game homestand. Kershaw (3-0) yielded solo homers by Amed Rosario and Riley Adams, but held Washington to five hits and repeatedly escaped trouble. Tanner Scott gave up CJ Abrams' one-out homer in the ninth before finishing his 15th save. Pinch-hitter Luis García Jr. had a two-run double in the seventh for the Nationals, who opened a nine-game Southern California road trip by falling to 3-15 in June. Washington snapped an 11-game losing streak on Thursday. MacKenzie Gore (3-7) gave up a season-high six runs — five earned — seven hits and four walks while pitching into the sixth for the Nationals. He has one victory in his last 11 starts. Hernández doubled and scored in the third when Mookie Betts beat out the relay throw on a potential inning-ending double play. Betts then scored on Abrams' throwing error, and Andy Pages added an RBI single. Adams homered in the fifth, but Rojas' homer chased Gore in the sixth. Bench coach Danny Lehmann managed the Dodgers while Dave Roberts served a one-game suspension after his ejection from LA's loss to San Diego on Thursday. Key moment After García's two-out double with the bases loaded, Washington had two runners in scoring position when Nathaniel Lowe hit a tailing fly to left. Michael Conforto dove forward and made a dramatic catch. Key stat The 37-year-old Kershaw has won three straight starts for the first time since April 2023, coming through when the Dodgers' rotation is badly depleted by injuries. Up next Los Angeles' Dustin May (4-4, 4.46 ERA) faces Washington's Jake Irvin (5-2, 4.23) on Saturday.
