Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 premieres tonight (July 29) at 10:30 pm, and anticipation is sky-high as Smriti Irani returns as Tulsi Virani. Alongside her, Amar Upadhyay will reprise his iconic role of Mihir Virani. As fans gear up for the reboot of one of Indian television's most iconic soaps, Amar has now revealed intriguing details about the plot. In a recent interview with Indian Express, Amar shared that while Mihir's character has evolved, his bond with Tulsi remains intact. 'Mihir is a bit changed in the way he moves around. He is a big businessman now. In season 1, he had done his MBA and returned to India to join his father's business. Now he is a very big businessman, busy exploring new business ideas," he explained. The actor also hinted at a conflict with the younger generation in the family. 'Smriti and my relation is just the way it was. The new kids come in, and with them, we have some differences, which is a different track altogether," Amar added. The new generation of the Virani family includes characters played by Rohit Suchanti, Aman Gandhi, and Shagun Sharma. According to Amar, Mihir's success as a businessman brings an added dimension to the show's storyline. While the bond between Tulsi and Mihir remains strong, the reboot will focus on the clash of values and perspectives between the older and younger generations—a theme likely to resonate with today's audience. Amar Upadhyay also revealed that Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 will be a finite series, expected to run for 10 to 12 months. This marks a shift from the original version, which ran for over eight years and became a cultural phenomenon. With Ekta Kapoor at the helm once again, the makers aim to recreate the same magic with a modern twist. Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Interview: Amar Upadhyay Tells NDTV He Knew Mihir Was Dying In Kyunki, But The Hysteria...
New Delhi: Today is the day, Ekta Kapoor's most loved daily soap from 2000, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, returns with its reboot version. What's even better is that one of television's most iconic couples, Tulsi Virani (Smriti Irani) and Mihir Virani (Amar Upadhyay), are reprising their onscreen avatars. One of the most chaotic phases of the long-running television show was when Mihir's character was killed. It was the outcome of a tragic accident, and it led to a massive twist in the storyline, along with Tulsi's life turning upside down. More importantly, Mihir's affair with Mandira (Mandira Bedi) was also revealed soon after. In an exclusive conversation with NDTV, Amar Upadhyay reveals if his onscreen death was planned or if he was brought back because of public demand and the huge outcry that was unleashed. What's Happening Amar Upadhyay, who played the role of Mihir in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, addresses one of the most talked-about scenes in the show. His death scene had left Balaji Telefilms' email server crashing and phone lines being jammed. After a point, the production house decided to bring back Mihir's character, to the utmost respite of his dedicated fans. Amar Upadhyay reveals, "The story was planned. I was told beforehand that I was going to die in the 125th episode, and they killed me in the 127th. It was all planned on paper, but the hysteria was unexpected. He was the hero who was supposed to die; it was a major incident. It was not expected." He continues, "Logically, any show would just shut down. Very subtly, the scenes were written, we shot them, but the reaction was off the charts. They wrote the scenes, and they shot the scenes. We were just staying honest to the script, but yes, we made it big because Mihir was dying! The crazy love and reaction from fans was, I guess, just a validation of how much love Mihir received throughout." What Made Mihir And Tulsi An Ideal Couple In the same conversation, Amar Upadhyay recalled his camaraderie with Smriti Irani, who became a household name as Tulsi Virani. He says even though she is a huge politician, the atmosphere on set this time was as happy as it has always been. He could only see his co-star. He says, "Tulsi is a very strong personality on television. Today she's a very big politician. She's handled so many ministries. But I never feel she's such a big politician. I always felt that she was my co-star. And when we met on set this time, I think we met as co-stars more than anything else. So it feels the same." Recalling how they would always be giggling on set even back then, the Kyunki actor says, "We were so comfortable as actors and friends on sets together. We used to laugh a lot while the cameras weren't rolling. You can see some clippings on social media today where we are both seen laughing, but that's happening when we are not shooting any scene. That's the reason why we came across as the believable, perfect couple on screen." In A Nutshell Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 returns tonight at 10:30 PM on Star Plus. It will be streaming on JioHotstar at all times. Mihir AKA Amar Upadhyay spoke about the frenzy that took place when his onscreen character was killed. Mihir was brought back on the show due to popular demand, and fans were relieved.

When Mihir's Death In Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi Had An Unexpected Response: "People Fell At Ekta Kapoor's Feet"
New Delhi: OG lead cast members Smriti Irani and Amar Upadhyay are reprising their roles of Tulsi Virani and Mihir, and are all set to return in Ekta Kapoor's iconic television reboot series Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. The creative director of the show, Nivedita Basu, spoke about the craze back then and how Mihir's death unleashed an unexpected response from the audience. What's Happening Nivedita Basu, Creative Director of the show, shared some memorable anecdotes from the 2000 daily soap Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi recently, as the reboot is all set to air on July 29, 2025. Speaking particularly about Mihir's death scene in the show, she told India Today, "Television was the only medium then. There was no OTT; there were not many films; the whole world used to collectively watch TV. We also didn't have social media, yet its popularity was unmatched. I remember Ekta and me would walk to Siddhivinayak, and people would come and fall onto Ekta's feet, even elders, making her embarrassed. When we were climbing up to our homes, we could hear the title song being played, and you would know that the whole world was watching. So that time and era were very different. I mean, the whole litmus test was out there in the open." Furthermore, she added, "I remember when Mihir died, Ekta had a brilliant strategy. Towards the end of the episode, she put Amar Upadhyay's birthdate and the date he died on the show. People were crying, howling, and thinking about what happened to Amar. I still keep mentioning it in every interview of mine. We had to call him back to the office to tell people that he was alive. Only the character is dead," "I remember TRP was 27 when Mihir came back. That's a lot on television; I think all the channels' cumulative would not get that. Of course, other shows are doing well, but I feel proud that we created history," concluded Nivedita Basu. Furthermore, she added how the show had 32 actors and what a challenge it was to get them together, as most of the time they are committed to other projects. Smriti Irani On Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi Delay Smriti Irani, who played the central role in the original, spoke about the project during a conversation with Barkha Dutt and Karan Johar on an episode of We The Women. "If you look at the Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi journey in totality, the most well-kept secret about it was that I had a contract to do it again in 2014, and I walked away from it because I had to serve in the Indian Parliament as a cabinet minister. The set was ready, but there was a phone call from the Prime Minister's office that you have to take an oath," she said. She also spoke about an opportunity she had turned down at the time. "I remember Rishi Kapoor telling me to leave now because to serve your country is a greater service than just doing a movie or doing television," Irani added. In A Nutshell The creative director of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi spoke about how Mihir's death in the show had created a frenzy among fans. She spoke about the chaos that unravelled and Ekta Kapoor's hilarious addition to the scene.
