Emmys shake-up: ‘The Gorge' jumps into top 5 for Best TV Movie
Are Emmy voters about to gorge themselves on The Gorge? This week, the Apple TV+ project jumped past Netflix's Nonnas in Gold Derby's Emmy predictions to climb into the fifth spot for Best TV Movie. That's significant because the category will just have five nominees due to there only being 39 total submissions. The other four predicted nominees: Netflix's Rebel Ridge, Disney +'s Out of My Mind, Peacock's Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, and HBO's Mountainhead. More from Gold Derby 'Squid Game 3' - instant Emmy predictions for the bloody final season Blessed be the comeback? 'The Handmaid's Tale' is on track to return to this major Emmy category for final season For those unfamiliar with The Gorge, Scott Derrickson's original sci-fi film stars Miles Teller as Levi Kane and Anya Taylor-Joy as Drasa, two elite snipers tasked with guarding opposite sides of a deep gorge, unaware of what mysteries lie below. Sigourney Weaver also stars as Bartholomew. Despite its middling 63 percent score at Rotten Tomatoes, TV critics hailed The Gorge for its successful mixing of genres, switching effortlessly between being an endearing romance and a high-octane thriller. Richard Roeper (Chicago Sun-Times) wrote, "This is a great-looking movie with star-power leads, and not for a second is any of it even close to being plausible, and we're just fine with that." Brian Truitt (USA Today) called it a "Whitman's Sampler of film genres with a delightfully sweet center that belies its freaky packaging." And Jake Coyle (Associated Press) noted, "There is good preposterous and bad preposterous. The Gorge may find some believers on both sides of that gulf." Despite the film's improved fifth-place position in Gold Derby's Emmy predictions, its stars remain out of the money. Taylor-Joy is down in 16th place for Best Movie/Limited Series Actress, while Teller ranks 24th for Best Movie/Limited Actor. So, why the disconnect? Recent Emmy history has been a wipeout for original telefilms, particularly in the acting categories, as the format has mostly been abandoned in favor of limited series. Over the past five years, only two performers have received Emmy nominations for appearing in traditional TV movies: Daniel Radcliffe for Weird: The Al Yankovic Story (2023) and Hugh Jackman for Bad Education (2020). Then there's Tituss Burgess, who nabbed a supporting bid for his canceled show's interactive follow-up film, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend (2020). Gold Derby's Emmy predictions are based on the combined forecasts of more than 4,600 people (and counting), including experts we've polled from major media outlets, editors who cover awards year-round for this website, and the mass of users who make up our biggest predictions bloc. EXCLUSIVE Taylor Swift's pal supports husband Miles Teller at star-studded golf tournament... but there's no sign of singer with Travis Kelce
The Swifties gathered along the shores of Lake Tahoe were forced to shake off their disappointment for a third day as Taylor Swift was a no-show at boyfriend Travis Kelce 's golf tournament yet again on Sunday. The NFL star took to the fairways again Sunday for the third round of the American Century Classic - a celebrity golf tournament that has attracted some of the biggest names in sport and entertainment. For the final day of the star-studded competition, the tight end was again joined by brother Jason as they teed off alongside actor Miles Teller. And while Swift was nowhere to be seen, her close friend Keleigh Teller was spotted cheering on her Hollywood husband. Keleigh and the songstress have become close friends over the years with Miles also believed to have a good rapport with the Kelce brothers. Keleigh, who married the Top Gun: Maverick star in 2019, attended the 2024 Golden Globes as the 'Anti-Hero' hitmaker's plus-one. She also starred in the singer's music video for her 2021 hit, 'I Bet You Think About me,' from re-recording of her album, 'Red.' However, the duo were not spotted enjoying the day together Sunday with Keleigh flying solo at Edgewood Tahoe South golf course. However, Travis still took the time to greet his pop sensation girlfriend's pal as he greeted Teller's wife on the putting green following the round. Meanwhile, despite his girlfriend's absence, Travis still found himself the center of attention as fans flocked to catch a glimpse of the three-time Super Bowl winner in action on the golf course. And the Kansas City Chief star graciously took the time to sign autographs and pose for photos. Travis was spotted taking a photo with three girls sporting t-shirts bearing the message, 'Go Taylor's boyfriend.' His brother Jason, the Philadelphia Eagles legend, also got in on the action. The retired NFL center signed Taylor Swift-themed t-shirts. He also flung gifts into the crowd, throwing his glove to a young kid and launching balls into the groups of spectators. The pair of famous footballing brothers patiently stayed behind at the course long after their round to entertain the masses of adoring fans. Travis clinched the best finish of the trio, coming in at tied-63rd alongside fellow NFLers Davantae Adams and Charles Woodson and actor Rob Riggle. However, Jason and Teller didn't fare so well. The former Eagles star slumped towards the bottom of the leaderboard, finishing in 86th place - just four from last. Teller, meanwhile, joined Jacksonville Jahguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence in a share for 75th.

Trevor Lawrence Nails Trick Shot at Star-Studded Celebrity Golf Championship
Trevor Lawrence Nails Trick Shot at Star-Studded Celebrity Golf Championship originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Trevor Lawrence may not be dominating the fairways this week in Lake Tahoe, but the former Clemson star reminded everyone he's still got a little hooper in him. Advertisement Participating in the annual American Century Celebrity Golf Championship at Edgewood Tahoe, Lawrence was spotted draining a three-point shot—yes, on a golf course—after he was tossed a basketball during his Friday round. It was a quick moment, but one that perfectly captured the laid-back, star-filled atmosphere of the country's most famous celebrity golf event. The 2018 All-American and current Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback was grouped Friday with actor Miles Teller and comedian Colin Jost, a lighthearted trio that epitomizes the crossover nature of the ACC tournament. Despite some struggles on the leaderboard—Lawrence sat 86th out of 90 players at -18 in the modified Stableford scoring system—his brief basketball cameo might've been the highlight of his day. Advertisement The moment came on one of Edgewood Tahoe's most scenic holes, with the towering Ponderosa Pines and crystal-clear Lake Tahoe in the backdrop. A shot like that wouldn't surprise anyone who watched Lawrence lead Clemson to a national title, but it was still enough to get fans buzzing. Previous stars have included Michael Jordan, Steph Curry, Tony Romo, Annika Sorenstam, and Charles Barkley, among others. The tournament has been held at Edgewood Tahoe since 1990, a course known for its beauty and difficulty—stretching to 6,709 yards for the ACC, with 11 holes featuring water and famously fast greens. Advertisement So no, Trevor Lawrence might not be walking away with the trophy this year. But he did remind us all that even on a golf course, he can still hit from deep.
