Pembrokeshire mum told to pay over £1,300 for children not attending school
A PEMBROKESHIRE mother has been fined for failing to ensure her children went to school regularly. The 38-year-old mum – who cannot be named in order to protect the identity of the children – was accused of not making sure her three children of compulsory school age regularly attended school between last November and April. The offences were proved in the defendant's absence at Haverfordwest Magistrates' Court on July 24. The mum, from the Milford Haven area, was sentenced to pay a £660 fine, £400 in costs, and a £264 surcharge.

Pembrokeshire man was drunk and disorderly at hospital
A PEMBROKESHIRE man was drunk and disorderly at hospital. Christian Teeley, 21, of Vicary Crescent in Milford Haven, was charged with being drunk and disorderly in a public place. Teeley was accused of being drunk and behaving in a disorderly manner at Withybush Hopsital on June 26. He pleaded guilty at Haverfordwest Magistrates' Court on July 15. Teeley was sentenced to a conditional discharge of 12 months, and must pay £85 in costs and a £26 surcharge.

Hermione Granger online scammer tricks vulnerable Milford Haven man
A vulnerable man was targeted by an online scammer who tricked him into believing he had befriended Harry Potter character Hermione resident of Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire, thought he was speaking to the fictional teacher's pet and friend of the title character in the series, written by JK Rowling and played by actor Emma Watson in the major film franchise fraudster asked the vulnerable resident for money, but a police community support officer (PCSO) was able to convince the victim he was being Rachel O'Neill has been recognised for using the "strong" trust she has built up with the community to protect the resident. "It has taken a long time to build up trust in the community and explain that I am here to help," said Ms O'Neill, who has spent six years with the Milford Haven Neighbourhood Policing and Prevention said while it took time for the "penny to drop" in this case, she was pleased serious harm had been prevented and that she was able to use the experience to offer education on scammers and how they 45-year-old mum-of-three said some vulnerable adults in her community were once "so frightened of the police", but have grown in confidence."When people see a familiar face, they learn to trust you and they therefore will feel more comfortable to talk to the police and report any suspicious behaviour," she said. Also praised at the awards were runners-up PCSO Jonathan Crayford, described as the "backbone of the community", and PCSO Matthew Kieboom, who "goes above and beyond even when off duty".Glan Thomas received the Chief Constable's outstanding achievement award for his 40 years of leadership in forensic services and key roles in many major cases, including the operation focusing on the abduction and murder of five-year-old April Jones, in 2012.

Man wins 'dull' award for invention of life-saving smell we use everyday
An engineer who invented the life-saving smell that is added to natural gas has won the 'dullest man' award. Peter Hansen, 85, was asked by a company to produce a smell to add to natural gas, which is otherwise odourless. Mr Hansen said he had to create a smell that was "horrible and naughty" so people could smell and identify gas leaks. He has now received the inaugural lifetime achievement award from The Dull Man's Podcast produced by a team from Stroud, Glocs. The scent created by him was added at Milford Haven refineries in Wales.
