Officials told to ensure 100% e-KYC compliance of ration card holders

Minister for Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs K.H. Muniyappa directed officials to ensure that the e-KYC of all ration card holders was completed at the earliest. He was speaking at the Mysuru divisional-level officers' meeting held here on Friday. Urging the officials to expedite the completion of the e-KYC process, the Minister said steps should be taken to make sure that the ration card holders complete the e-KYC norms. Setting a month's deadline for the completion of the exercise, the Minister said that ration card holders should also be warned that their ration supply could be withheld, pending e-KYC completion. Officials were instructed to constitute committees to create public awareness at the district level. On the vacancies in the Legal Metrology Department, Mr. Muniyappa said that steps will be initiated to fill up vacancies in due course. He also directed the officials to ensure the safe preservation of the food grains stored in go-downs and those procured under the Minimum Support Price scheme. Manoz Jain, Secretary, Departments of Food and Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs, Legal Metrology, Planning, Programme Monitoring, and Statistics, said that vacant posts in the department will be temporarily assigned to other officers while vacant posts of food inspectors will be handled temporarily by revenue inspectors of the Revenue Department. Mr. Jain instructed that Aadhaar cards of people from other States be verified, and that ration supplies be ensured even to hilly areas and remote places in Chamarajanagar district where only 10 to 15 houses exist. On the e-KYC exercise, Mr. Jain said that ration shopkeepers must tell members with incomplete e-KYCs that their food supplies will be withheld, and signatures must be obtained from the members as proof of having been informed. Vasireddi Vijaya Jyothsna, Commissioner, Food and Civil Supplies Department, said that nearly 1.69 lakh people have not completed their e-KYC, and hence mooted the idea of giving a little more time for single-member ration card holders to comply with the e-KYC. Officials and staff from various departments, including M.S.N. Babu, Controller of Legal Metrology, and Jagadish M.K., Commissioner, Food and Civil Supplies Department, were present.

B.R. Patil wants Siddaramaiah to lead campaign for MSP legal guarantee

Aland MLA and Deputy Chairman of Karnataka State Policy and Planning Commission (KSPPC) B.R. Patil has urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to lead a campaign at the national level demanding legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP) for agricultural produce. Addressing presspersons in Kalaburagi on Wednesday, Mr. Patil said that Mr. Siddaramaiah made his political debut through a farm movement and also comes from an agricultural background. He should continue to be the voice of farmers and press the Union government to enact a law for guaranteed buying of their crops at MSP. Welcoming Mr. Siddaramaiah's decision to withdraw a move to acquire 1,777 acres of fertile agricultural land in 13 villages of Channarayapatna hobli of Devanahalli taluk in Bengaluru Rural district, Mr. Patil reiterated that the Congress is standing by farmers to protect their interest and it will continue to support them. The BJP government during its tenure in 2010 acquired 1,500 acres of agricultural land in the villages of Honna Kiranagi, Nadi Sinnur and Firozabad in Kalaburagi district for establishing a thermal power plant. But it failed to bring any mega project or industry, he said. Mr. Patil demanded that the government establish an agriculture university on the acquired land.

APMDC bonds issue: govt. failed to address key concern, alleges Buggana

The YSRCP has criticised the NDA coalition government for resorting to 'false propaganda' over the Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation (APMDC) bonds issue. It has accused the government of diverting attention from the core concern — allowing private entities access to the public exchequer through the bonds. Addressing the media in Hyderabad on Thursday, former Finance Minister Buggana Rajendranath Reddy said the government failed to answer the fundamental question — 'why was third-party access to State funds permitted?' During our tenure, loans had been taken against the future income of the Beverages Corporation, but no third-party access was allowed, he said. 'Despite the TDP raising a hue and cry then, our actions remained within the constitutional framework,' he said. Mr. Rajendranath Reddy criticised Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav's suggestion that sedition charges be filed against YSRCP, saying such logic would equally apply to TDP for its actions in the past. 'Your own MLA from Visakhapatnam went to court against our lawful financial actions. Did that make him a traitor?' he asked. In response to accusations of recent email campaigns to foreign nations allegedly tarnishing the State's image, he said similar complaints were sent to international platforms during their term (2019–2024). The YSRCP leader said farmers were being denied Minimum Support Price (MSP) and attempts were made to obstruct party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy's solidarity visits to rural areas like Bangarupalem. 'The public response shows people's dissatisfaction with the current government,' he said. Despite a budget on a par with the YSRCP regime, the coalition government failed to implement key welfare schemes, he alleged. 'The YSRCP maintained a welfare calendar and adhered to it. But the current government has broken its election promises, taken huge loans without transparency, and betrayed all sections,' he said. He cited reductions in beneficiaries of schemes like Thalliki Vandanam, irregularities in the Deepam scheme, and non-implementation of promises like free bus travel for women, Stri Nidhi, and Annadata Sukhibhava.
