Kuwait: MEW gets CAPT approval to link external sites, NDCC
KUWAIT CITY - The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy has obtained approval from the Central Agency for Public Tenders (CAPT) to issue a tender for linking the external sites of the ministry with the National Data Control Center (NDCC), say sources from the ministry. Sources indicated that this tender is included in the contracts of the ministry for the current fiscal year and are scheduled to be implemented by the Planning, Training and Information Systems Sector. Sources revealed that the tender is for linking the external branches with the data center in the main ministry building and the NDCC in order to allow the exchange of information and provision of electronic services. Sources pointed out that 'subject to the approval of CAPT, the tender will be announced and a date will be set for specialized companies to submit their bids, select the winning bid and implement the project under the regulations.' Sources added the ministry intends to install five main power transformer stations for the Automobile Circuit Project -- Rawda Block Three, Kabd C, cow farms, Sharq Block Four and Al- Arabi Club; in addition to supplying and extending the necessary underground cables to feed the five planned stations through two tenders: the first for the stations and the second for the cables. Sources said the two tenders aim to provide the energy needed to expand the high-voltage and ultra- high-voltage electrical networks resulting from the increased demand for electricity in the aforementioned areas, as well as to provide electricity continuously throughout the day. Moreover, the ministry also confirmed the start of electricity connection in Al-Mutlaa Residential City (N1 District - parts of Block One; in cooperation with the Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW). It reiterated that it is now receiving applications to connect electricity to 251 plots Arab Times | © Copyright 2024, All Rights Reserved Provided by SyndiGate Media Inc. (

Kuwait's MEW secures SAB approval for $553mln GCCIA power import
KUWAIT CITY - The total amount for which the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy obtained conditional approval from the State Audit Bureau (SAB) to contract for the import of electricity from the Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) reached KD169.126 million over nine months -- from April to December. According to reliable sources, the ministry got approval for the import in April, amounting to KD2.641 million, two approvals in May the first for KD1.756 million and the second for KD3.348 million, in addition to an approval from June until December for KD161.381 million. Sources indicated that the energy import is through the coordinated efforts of the ministry and GCCIA to support the grid, maintain the stability of the electrical system during summer, and avoid resorting to scheduled power outages as much as possible, given the increased loads resulting from high temperatures and increased consumption rates in summer. Sources disclosed that the ministry utilized the GCCIA as one of the solutions to address the energy crisis until production rates increase and new projects are implemented shortly. Sources said these projects include the installation of gas turbine units operating on a combined cycle system to increase power production at Al-Subiya power station by 900 megawatts, indicating the ministry is racing against time to complete the fourth phase that includes the tender, award, contracting, and implementation procedures. New desalination phase to boost Kuwait's water reserves by 60mln gallons daily
KUWAIT CITY - The bid opening date for Doha West Seawater Reverse Osmosis Desalination Plant, along with equipment to increase the alkalinity of the produced water (Phase II) , will be on July 22, sources from the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy say. Sources pointed out that if the project bids are opened and the deadline is not postponed, the Central Agency for Public Tenders (CAPT) will refer the bids to the ministry for review and preparation of technical recommendations within one month of the award date. Based on the recommendation, a decision will be made on the company with the best bid and the required conditions and specifications, sources explained. Sources added that the award decision of CAPT will be pave the way for sending the tender documents to the State Audit Bureau (SAB) for study, review and audit. Sources confirmed that the bureau will then approve the contract to start the implementation of the project, which the ministry is counting on to increase the strategic reserve of fresh water to meet the growing demand for water. Sources expect the station to increase the strategic water reserve by 60 million imperial gallons per day of potable water without the need to mix it with groundwater -- an advantage of reverse osmosis technology. Sources also confirmed the commitment of the ministry to implement all of its development projects, particularly those related to electricity and water production, to meet the increasing demand for electricity and water annually. Kuwait's Nuwaiseeb Power Plant set to get dual-fuel supply lines
KUWAIT CITY: The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy intends to construct fuel lines feeding the Nuwaiseeb Power Plant for generating electricity and distilling water using two types of fuel -- gas and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Sources explained that the fuel lines project is part of preparations for the Nuwaiseeb Power Plant, which is aimed at securing the electricity grid. Sources said this is one of the important future projects that will supply the grid with around 7,200 megawatts and 180 million imperial gallons of water in two phases -- the first has a capacity of 3,600 megawatts. Sources stated that the project to construct fuel pipelines is expected to be tendered in the current fiscal year -- under established procedures and regulations -- as a limited and non-divisible public tender. They added the project aims to meet the station's growing need for various types of fuel; including the construction of the necessary pipelines for all types of fuel, and modernizing fuel receiver systems and pipelines to operate the station's system and equipment; thereby, improving fuel efficiency. They indicated that the Nuwaiseeb station will operate under the 'combined cycle' system; which produces more energy with the same amount of fuel, reduces the amount consumed per unit, reduces emissions compared to the unit's output, and enables future expansion and operation with more than one type of fuel.
