KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP) is targeting RM4 million in transaction value during the five-day One District One Industry (SDSI) showcase at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC). Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick said RM3 million is expected from PADANIAGA business matching activities, while RM1 million is projected from the entrepreneur financing initiative. The event, running from July 30, coincides with the Felda Settlers' Day celebration and the Rural Entrepreneurs Carnival (KUD) under the Mega 3D Carnival (MK3D). 'This is the first time KUSKOP is collaborating with the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) and Felda to organise three large-scale national programmes concurrently,' Ewon said in a statement. He added that the combined effort aims to enhance synergy, particularly for SDSI entrepreneurs, with the carnival expected to attract two million visitors. The SDSI showcase serves as a commercialisation platform, featuring exhibitions and product sales that highlight each district's identity, including food and beverage, health products, handicrafts, and homestays. A total of 154 entrepreneurs nationwide are participating, with 14 state pavilions set up in MITEC's Hall 5, Level 2. Key activities include the Citarasa Desa programme, SDSI forum, business matching sessions, and financing initiatives. Supporting events like entrepreneurship talks and product demonstrations are also being held. The public is encouraged to visit the carnival, open daily from 10 am to 10 pm until Sunday. - Bernama

Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick outlined key strategies to strengthen business ecosystems and enhance social entrepreneurship. KUSKOP's initiatives will focus on improving MSME resilience, increasing third-sector visibility, and promoting inclusive business models. These efforts align with core policies such as the National Entrepreneurship Policy, MSME Strategic Plan 2030, and the Malaysian Social Entrepreneurship Roadmap 2030. 'Public service reforms, including the Government Service Efficiency Commitment Bill (ILTIZAM) and GovTech enhancements, will support these goals,' Ewon said. He emphasized a whole-of-government approach to advance entrepreneurship and cooperative development. Collaboration platforms like the National Entrepreneur and SME Development Council will facilitate inter-ministerial and stakeholder coordination. Ewon also highlighted the government's commitment to bridging regional disparities, particularly in Sabah and Sarawak. 'The blue economy agenda in Sabah reflects its potential to drive eastern Malaysia's growth,' he added. KUSKOP To Lead MSME Scaling, Third-sector Empowerment

KUALA LUMPUR, July 31 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP) will spearhead efforts to scale up micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and empower the third sector under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today. KUSKOP Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick said the ministry is committed to strengthening MSME business models and ecosystems, enhancing third-sector resilience and visibility, and increasing participation in inclusive business ventures. He said these pillars will be guided by core policies, including the National Entrepreneurship Policy, National Franchise Policy, Malaysian Cooperative Policy, National Hawkers and Small Traders Development Policy, MSME Strategic Plan 2030 and the Malaysian Social Entrepreneurship Roadmap 2030, all of which will be further enhanced alongside other strategic frameworks. 'These goals will also be supported by public service reforms such as the implementation of the Government Service Efficiency Commitment Bill (ILTIZAM), the strengthening of GovTech, improved governance, project management reforms and a stronger social economy ecosystem,' he said in a statement today. Ewon added that KUSKOP is committed to advancing entrepreneurship, cooperatives and the social economy through a whole-of-government approach. He said this would be carried out through platforms such as the National Entrepreneur and SME Development Council, the National Entrepreneurship Development Council, as well as other consultative bodies involving collaboration between ministries, state governments and stakeholders. Ewon also welcomed the MADANI Government's continued commitment to addressing regional development gaps between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak, and improving the socio-economic status of the Anak Negeri Sabah and Bumiputera Sarawak communities. 'As long as I am entrusted to lead KUSKOP, I will uphold this commitment with renewed focus through the Domestic Look East Policy - KUSKOP's perspective,' he said. Ewon said the blue economy empowerment agenda in Sabah reflects the government's recognition of the state's potential to drive economic growth in the eastern region.

KUCHING: The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP) has completed the construction and upgrading of 39 Tamu Desa (Village Guest) premises across Sarawak, with a total allocation of RM7.85 million. Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick stated that the project, implemented in phases with local authorities, aims to enhance rural market infrastructure. 'This initiative, introduced in 2024, will continue this year. We will discuss with the Sarawak government to address requests from MPs for more rural stalls and markets to be assisted,' he said after visiting Tamu Sungai Apong. The project supports rural economic empowerment and encourages small entrepreneurs' participation. Ewon noted receiving four applications from Sarawak MPs for expansion. 'We will coordinate with Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan to select suitable locations,' he added. Phase 1 saw 13 completed projects (RM1.99 mln), while Phase 2 includes 26 ongoing projects (RM5.85 mln), such as Tamu Semarak and Tamu Sukma, set for completion in August. Tamu Sungai Apong's upgrade cost RM416,000 across two phases. KUSKOP has implemented 100 Tamu Desa projects in Sabah and Sarawak over the past year, with 61 in Sabah and 39 in Sarawak, reinforcing rural entrepreneurial ecosystems. - Bernama

KUSKOP Upgrades 39 Tamu Desa Premises In Sarawak With An Allocation Of RM7.85 Mln

KUCHING, July 30 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP) has built and upgraded a total of 39 Tamu Desa (Village Guest) premises across Sarawak over the past year, with a total allocation of RM7.85 million. Its minister, Datuk Ewon Benedick, said the project's implementation is being carried out in phases in collaboration with the local authorities (PBT) involved. "This is a project that was first introduced by KUSKOP to improve guest markets in Sabah and Sarawak, starting in 2024, and we will continue this project for this year. "For the project in Sarawak this year, we will discuss with the state government the implementation mechanism, taking into account the requests of several Sarawak Members of Parliament (MPs) who want stalls and tamu (markets) in rural areas to also be assisted," he told reporters after visiting the Tamu Sungai Apong premises here today. He said the implementation of the Tamu Desa premises development project is among KUSKOP's ongoing commitments in empowering the rural community's economy and encouraging the active participation of small entrepreneurs in the local economic system in Sabah and Sarawak. He said he has received four applications from Sarawak MPs who want the initiative to be expanded in the state. "I need to have a discussion first with Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan to select a suitable location for this project," he said. Meanwhile, Ewon said in a statement that for the Tamu Desa project in Sarawak, a total of 13 Tamu Desa projects have been implemented, costing RM1.99 million, and all of them involving Phase 1 have been fully completed. Phase 2 involves 26 projects with an allocation of RM5.85 million, and ongoing projects include Tamu Semarak and Tamu Sukma, which are expected to be completed next month (August).
