YANGON: Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Major General Aung Kyaw Kyaw, inspected efforts to collect data needed to repatriate 18 foreign nationals who had entered Myanmar illegally back to their respective countries, accroding to the reports. On the afternoon of July 6, the Deputy Minister, along with other officials, visited the Border Guard Force Security and Disciplinary Control Office in Myawaddy. They inspected the situation regarding the collection of necessary data to facilitate the repatriation of 18 foreign nationals—17 Chinese nationals and one Kenyan national—who had illegally crossed into Myanmar through border areas. During the inspection, the Deputy Minister instructed responsible officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Immigration and Population to ensure the accuracy of the recorded information and to carry out the repatriation process quickly and systematically. It is reported that coordination was made to address necessary issues. From January 30 to July 6, 2025, a total of 9,198 foreign nationals who had illegally entered Myanmar were discovered and detained. Among them, 8,987 were systematically repatriated to their respective countries through Thailand in accordance with legal procedures, while the remaining 211 are ready to be transferred to their home countries and are currently being properly held and supervised. It is also learned that the government is cooperating with the relevant countries to promptly identify and repatriate foreign nationals who have been involved in online fraud, illegal online gambling and other criminal activities, strictly following legal procedures. - Eleven Media/ANN

YANGON: Myanmar authorities have confirmed the deportation of 67 foreign nationals involved in telecom fraud and other online criminal activities. According to official sources, the Myanmar government continues efforts to investigate and repatriate foreigners who illegally entered and resided in border areas while engaging in illegal activities such as online gambling and telecom fraud. These individuals are being identified and systematically deported to their respective countries in accordance with legal procedures and international protocols. On Tuesday (May 27), authorities transferred 67 individuals — 66 Vietnamese nationals and one Chadian national — who were found to be involved in such crimes in the areas of Myawaddy, Shwe Kokko, Mae Htaw Talay (KK Park), and Kyauk Khet in Kayin State. The handover took place in the morning via the Myanmar–Thailand Friendship Bridge No. 2, reflecting a spirit of humanitarian cooperation and international goodwill. To ensure an orderly and smooth repatriation process, officials from the Ministry of Immigration and Population, including Deputy Director U Myint Bhone from Kayin State, coordinated with relevant departments. They reviewed documentation and verified records for completeness and accuracy before the transfer. A formal handover ceremony followed, attended by Deputy Director U Myint Bhone and relevant Myanmar authorities, as well as representatives from the embassies of Vietnam, Chad, and China. Attendees included Saad Ahmat Moussa, Counsellor of the Chadian Embassy in China, and Nguyen Thi Kim Chung, First Secretary of the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand, alongside Thai immigration officials from Tak District. Myanmar officials handed over the legal documents to the respective embassy representatives in an orderly manner. From Jan 30 to May 27, 2025, Myanmar intercepted and detained a total of 9,102 foreign nationals who had entered the country illegally. Among them, 8,692 individuals were already deported through Thailand to their home countries following legal procedures. The remaining 410 are prepared for deportation and are currently being securely held. The Myanmar government reaffirms its commitment to combating online crimes — including online scams and gambling — that pose threats to national security and the public. YANGON: Myanmar has deported 31 foreign nationals involved in telecom fraud and other criminal activities to their respective countries and detained an additional 13 foreigners for further investigation, said official sources. These individuals had entered Myanmar illegally through border routes—some transiting through neighbouring countries, including Thailand—and were found operating illegal online gambling and scam operations in areas such as Shwe Kokko, KK Park (Meethawthalay), and Kyauk Khat in Myawaddy Township, Kayin State. Those deported on May 20 via the Myanmar–Thailand Friendship Bridge No. 2 included one South Korean, seven Nigerians, 10 Indians, one Russian, and 12 Filipinos. The deportation was carried out in accordance with legal procedures and in the spirit of humanitarian and international cooperation. It was coordinated by Myanmar's Ministry of Immigration and Population, Kayin State Deputy Director-General U Myint Phone, and relevant departmental officials. They ensured that the list of individuals and supporting documents were complete and accurate. Also present were immigration authorities from Thailand's Tak Province, who coordinated with Myanmar officials to receive the deported individuals. On the same day, authorities detained 13 more foreign nationals who had entered Myanmar illegally via the same border regions: eight Filipinos, one Nigerian, three Indians, and one Chinese citizen. From Jan 30 to May 20, 2025, Myanmar authorities apprehended a total of 9,099 foreign nationals who had entered the country illegally. Out of these, 8,469 individuals have already been deported through Thailand to their home countries, and 630 are in custody, prepared for transfer. The Myanmar government continues to investigate and take action against all individuals and networks involved in online scams and gambling, in collaboration with neighbouring countries and international organisations.
