Brunei aims to become renowned biodiversity hub
Xinhua 20 May 2025, 17:15 GMT+10 BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, May 20 (Xinhua) -- Brunei is aiming to become a renowned hub in biodiversity research covering land, aquatic and marine ecosystems, a senior Brunei official has said. An expedition focusing on Brunei's mangrove forest in Selirong Island and the aquatic ecosystem in Pelong Rocks is held from May 19 to May 25, said Hajah Tutiaty Wahab, permanent secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism. According to local daily Borneo Bulletin on Tuesday, the senior official said the expedition is a continuous effort by the ministry to explore, understand and protect the natural environment, collect scientific data, and obtain new findings from the research site. Selirong Island is a mangrove paradise with a range of unique and exotic creatures, located about a 30-minute boat ride from Brunei's capital. Pelong Rocks is a popular scuba diving site with diverse coral life located off the Brunei beach.

Brunei tourism highlighted at Arab travel fair
Visitors at the Brunei booth at the Arabian Travel Market 2025. - MPRT BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Curious attendees learned more about the unique appeal and essence of Brunei Darussalam at a stand set up at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2025, which took place over four days at the Dubai World Trade Centre, United Arab Emirates. The Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT), through the Tourism Development Department (TDD), set up the stand, which centred around the theme 'Royal Heritage, Islamic Grandeur and Untamed Nature'. The stand showcased Brunei's tourism offerings, further supported by direct air links between Brunei and Dubai via Royal Brunei Airlines. This provides convenient access for Middle Eastern travellers to experience Brunei as an emerging, ecotourism-focused destination in South-East Asia. The ATM presented a unique opportunity as it represented a gateway to global travel and tourism growth, serving as a crucial platform for the travel trade industry, uniting all sectors, including leisure, luxury, business events and corporate travel. - Borneo Bulletin

Brunei charity walk raises over BND16,000 for children with autism
Participants in the Pasar Kitani Charity Brisk Walk, organised by the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, at the Rimba Agribusiness Centre. - BB/ANN BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: A total of BND16,252 (US$12495) was raised during the Pasar Kitani Charity Brisk Walk organised by the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism through the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood on Sunday (May 4). The funds were handed over to the Society for the Management of Autism Related issues in Training, Education and Resources Brunei and the Learning Ladders Society (which provides advocacy, public education, information and support for children with autism and their families) prior to the start of the walk. Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Datuk Seri Setia Dr Abdul Manaf Metussin presented the contributions to representatives from both organisations. The charity walk, divided into 2.5-kilometre (km) and 4.5-km categories, also aimed to motivate farmers and agrifood entrepreneurs to boost their income through Pasar Kitani, while fostering market networking. The initiative encourages farmers to become successful and progressive agri-entrepreneurs. Pasar Kitani, held at the Rimba Agribusiness Centre every Saturday and Sunday from 6am to 2pm, features a variety of local agriculture and agrifood products. Members of the public are encouraged to visit and support local producers. The permanent secretary, deputy permanent secretaries, heads of department and officials from the ministry were also present. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
