Ransom Canyon star Minka Kelly reveals she has thought about leaving Hollywood 'many times' for a less than glamorous 'backup profession'
Minka Kelly has opened up about how she considered leaving acting 'many times' for her 'backup profession' - which is a far cry from the glitz and glam of Hollywood. The actress, 44, told how she is considering returning to her 'backup' career as an operating room scrub nurse because it continues to give her 'a bit of confidence'. The Friday Night Lights star, who is dating singer-songwriter Dan Reynolds, discussed the option during an appearance on Today with Jenna & Friends show with guest co-host Andy Cohen on Tuesday. During the interview, Andy asked: 'Is it true that you thought Hollywood was over you?', to which Minka said she had considered 'many times'. She said: 'I think after any job finishes If any amount of time passes, you're like, "Okay, this is it. I had a good run. And that's okay, everything's okay. I have my backup. I can be a scrub tech again". When asked if she thought about going back to being a scrub tech in the OR (operating room), Minka said: 'I think of it all the time. I think it's something that gives me a bit of confidence...' Minka Kelly has opened up about how she considered leaving acting 'many times' for her 'backup profession' - which is a far cry from the glitz and glam of Hollywood Referring to the entertainment industry, she said: 'You know this isn't the whole world. So the rejection that you get being an actor is sort of balanced out for me and you can go, "But I'm good at this. I know I'm good at this". Speaking about her experience of being a nurse, she said: 'I loved it so much. It's really good to feel like you're good at something.' Minka's latest project is Netflix series Ransom Canyon - which has been dubbed as the next Yellowstone. The series debuted on the streaming platform on April 17 but the reviews that are pouring in are so far mixed. 'Love, loss, and loyalty collide when three ranching family dynasties fight for control of the land. Their lives and legacies are threatened by outside forces intent on destroying their way of life,' Netflix's synopsis read. Reviewers seemed to dislike the drama more than viewers with headlines calling it 'a try-hard Western' that is a 'far cry from Yellowstone,' and 'goes down easy but leaves a weird after taste.' The soapy series also stars Josh Duhamel, James Brolin, Eoin Macken, Lizzy Greene, Andrew Liner, Marianly Tejada, Garrett Wareing and Jack Schumacher. USA Today gave the series one and a half stars out of four as it said, 'Peek underneath the jean jackets and cowboy hats and you'll find there's very little substance to Canyon.' AV Club said, 'The show's ten episodes are engineered for maximum escapism and bingeability.' Both Duhamel and Kelly have compared their western soap to food. The Win a Date with Tad Hamilton star, called it 'comfort food,' while the Friday Night Lights actress called it 'gooey chocolate cake.' And while many reviews compared Ransom Canyon to Yellowstone and its spin-offs, that wasn't quite on the mark. Netflix was looking to capitalize on the success they've had with romantic dramas Virgin and Sweet Magnolias, this time with some western flair. The series is adapted from the series of books by Jodi Thomas and created by Wednesday writer April Blair. Set in the fictional town of Ransom Canyon, Variety called it 'horny, absurd, and ridiculously entertaining' and 'a sexy, predictable, breezy viewing experience that delivers on its promises.' The Hollywood Reporter called the series, 'featureless and formulaic, happy to borrow just a fraction of your attention while you mostly focus on other things.' Another thing that isn't sitting well with reviewers is the entirely white cast that focuses on several love triangles and an as-thus unrequited love between Duhamel's Staten and Kelly's Quinn. Quinn is not only the owner of the only bar in town, she's also Staten's late wife's best friend. Staten is hauling around a heap of grief having lost his wife and only son in the not too recent past. Over on X, (formerly Twitter), viewers, who've had 12 ish hours to see the series are more positive about it. Users of that social media platform shared pics of the various couples on the show and commented about the heat and the tension. Several of the reviews called Ransom Canyon, background TV, but they clearly didn't check with its intended audience. One fan wrote, 'they rly gaslit me in the trailer bc why'd i think that scene of quinn and davis laying by the fireplace was quinn and stanten.' Davis Collins is played by Eoin Macken and he comes with almost as much baggage as Staten does. Davis is a thrice-divorced single father who is basically a grifter who knows how to turn on the charm to entice Quinn. Another viewer, wrote: 'He as the cowboy who lost his wife and son and she as the hidden artist who was a friend of his late wife. me: I LOVE THE DRAMA.' Someone else compared it to Netflix's Virgin River, ' If Yellowstone was made by Hallmark, you'd get Ransom Canyon — all the ranch drama, none of the grit. If you're into Virgin River vibes, this one's your next binge.' And for one Minka Kelly fan, they are just grateful she's back on screen to watch. 'Minka Kelly back on my screen in Ransom Canyon is the small-town drama serotonin I needed. Ranch life, secrets, and Minka? Say less.'

Minka Kelly will return to 'back-up' career if Hollywood roles dry up
Minka Kelly will return to her "back-up" career as a scrub technician if her roles in Hollywood dry up. The actress used to work in a hospital as a surgical technologist - assisting surgeons in operating rooms - and Minka is adamant she will happily go back to the job if she fails to win any more acting roles. During an appearance on TV show 'Today with Jenna and Friends', Minka explained: "I've thought that [Hollywood may be over for me after] every job that finishes. "And then if any amount of time passes [between roles], you're like: 'Okay, this is it. I had a good run. And that's okay, everything's okay. I have my back-up. I can be a scrub tech again'." Minka admitted she thinks about going back to her hospital job "all the time", adding: "It's a thing that gives [me] a bit of confidence." She went on to say: "You know this [acting] isn't the whole world ... So the rejection that you get being an actor is sort of balanced out for me and you can go: 'But I'm good at this. I know I'm good at this'. "I loved it [being a scrub technician] so much. It's really good to feel like you're good at something." Mika's latest acting role is in new Netflix Western series 'Ransom Canyon' and during her appearance on the TV show, she revealed her Imagine Dragons star boyfriend Dan Reynolds helped her learn to play piano for the part. She explained: "He helped me a lot. Because at home he'd help me translate - I can't read music - so he would show me how it's done. ... "[I also] had a piano teacher in Albuquerque so I would just play [the songs] over and over and over again." Minka insisted she can still play the songs she "had to learn for the show". She previously admitted Dab won a small part in the show after coming to visit her on set. She told PEOPLE: "He came to visit and everyone, all the producers and writers, just naturally fell in love with him, like you do. It's easy to love Dan. "They just asked one day, 'Do you think he'd play this character?' And I just was like: 'Let me ask him'. And he was such a good sport and down to play."

10-Year-Old Girl Dies After Flu Complications Left Her ‘Screaming' and Unable to ‘Feel Her Legs and Feet'
A Maryland family is mourning after a 10-year-old girl died from complications of the flu, just days after being dismissed from the hospital. Minka Aisha Greene, a healthy and active elementary school student, was considered the 'light' of her family. So, when the 10-year-old started having low energy and a lack of appetite in late January, her mother Kymesha Greene White was immediately concerned. 'We noticed her behavior changed because she normally doesn't get sick. This was like her first time getting sick,' Kymesha told DC News Now. Kymesha took her little girl to the emergency room and Minka was diagnosed with the flu and a UTI. She was given ibuprofen and sent home to rest. However, Minka started complaining about headaches so her mother took her back to the ER. During the second visit, she was given fluids and sent home again to rest. Minka's health ultimately took a turn for the worse on the morning of Feb. 6, when Kymesha found her daughter vomiting in bed. 'I heard her screaming, 'Mommy!' And I'm like, 'What's wrong?' That's when she said she couldn't feel her legs and her feet,' she recalled. Kymesha and her husband David White rushed their daughter, who had not had the flu vaccine, to the hospital. She told the Capitol Heights Daily Voice that on the way there, one of her daughter's eyes rolled to the back of her head and her tongue started moving uncontrollably. Shortly after arriving at the hospital, Minka stopped breathing. Doctors performed CPR and other life-saving procedures but the parents were later told that their daughter had no brain activity. 'That was the last time I carried her, the last time I held her in my arms. I will cherish that for the rest of my life,' said David. Minka later died on Feb. 10 at the hospital. 'We had to let our baby go,' said Kymesha. Following Minka's death, the family learned that she suffered severe brain inflammation caused by the flu. They are now sharing their story in hopes of warning other parents. 'Advocate for your babies,' Kymesha said. 'When they say they're hurting, tell the doctors.' There are two types of influenza viruses: Flu A, and Flu B, according to Verywell Health. They both cause similar symptoms, like fever, body aches, and coughing. While Flu A is more common and thought to be more dangerous — the outlet reports that it accounted for 97% of cases during the 2022-2023 season — Flu B 'symptoms can range from mild to severe.' Additionally, the National Institute of Health reports that 'neurological complications occurred in one-fifth of hospitalized children due to influenza.' The U.S. Centers for Disease Control says, 'Flu can be more dangerous than the common cold for children' and recommends preventative measures — such as vaccination and frequent hand washing. CAPITOL HEIGHTS, Md. () — A Prince George's County family is grieving the loss of their 10-year-old daughter and sister after she contracted the flu and died last month. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that more than 100 children across the country have died from the flu this season – at least two of whom are from Prince George's County. One of the students, Minka Greene, attended John Bayne Elementary School in Capitol Heights. In an interview with DC News Now on Tuesday, her family shared their fond memories of her. 'She was like the family's light. With everybody she met, she'd just say, 'Hi, I'm Minka!'' her mother, Kymesha White, said. She became sick at the end of January. 'We noticed her behavior changed because she normally doesn't get sick. This was like her first time getting sick,' said White. Minka had not received a flu shot this past season and, after a trip to the emergency room and an initial diagnosis of the flu and a UTI, she was sent home with ibuprofen and told to rest. Following that first visit, she complained of headaches. After a second trip to the emergency room, she was given fluids and sent home again to rest. What followed, most parents can't even fathom. 'I heard her screaming, 'Mommy!' And I'm like, 'What's wrong?' That's when she said she couldn't feel her legs and her feet,' Kymesha White said. 'That was the last time I carried her, the last time I held her in my arms. I will cherish that for the rest of my life,' said her father, David White. After more treatments and waiting to see if her condition improved, her parents had to make an impossible choice. 'We decided we had to let our baby go,' said White. 'Advocate for your babies. When they say they're hurting, tell the doctors.' Minka's family is now grieving her loss, including her younger brother, who is remembering her in his own special way. 'I told him that when he looks outside and sees the stars, that's Minka. He says, 'Wow, that's a lot of Minkas out there mom!'' said White.
