Sean Wallace: Why Aberdeen should launch an audacious loan bid for Bojan Miovski

Aberdeen should launch an audacious move to secure Bojan Miovski on a short-term loan until the January transfer window. Miovski has struggled to make the expected impact in the Spanish top flight following his club record £6.8million transfer from Aberdeen to Girona last summer. The former Dons' goal hero has scored only four times for Girona with two of those coming against lower league Extremadura in the Copa del Rey. Reports emerging from Spain claim there are doubts over Miovski's future at Girona following a frustrating debut season. The North Macedonian international played only 20 minutes of Girona's final 10 La Liga matches as they successfully battled to avoid relegation. It is a surprise Miovski hasn't made a major impact at Girona as he is a class act. The summer transfer window could be the time to launch an ambitious bid to take Miovski back to Pittodrie on a short-term loan deal. It would be very much an outside chance but if you don't ask, you don't get. Aberdeen landed European Cup winner Hans Gilhaus from PSV Eindhoven and Charlie Nicholas from Arsenal because they had the vision and ambition to ask. Different eras… but same ethos. Miovski clearly has an affection for Aberdeen after his two seasons at the club. In an emotional farewell message following his transfer to Girona the striker said: 'Once a Don, always a Don.' It could be time to bring him back…. if certain factors fall into place (I did say it was a long shot!). A permanent move for the striker would be way beyond Aberdeen's budget as Miovski is contracted until summer 2028. Despite a dearth of goals in his debut season Miovski will still be valued in the multi-millions by Girona. His wages would also be well beyond the budget of the Dons. But could Girona pay a substantial chunk of wages to limit the outlay by the loan club? Reports in Spain claim Girona manager Michel and the club's sporting directors plan to speak to Miovski, and other players, about their future during the summer. If Miovski is unlikely to get game time in the new season a short-term loan to Aberdeen should be looked at as a potential option. Obviously any slim potential of a loan hinges on Miovski not being sold in the summer. In Aberdeen's favour they can offer guaranteed European league action. The Dons enter the Europa League at the play-off stage. If the Reds win the play off they enter the Europa League with a further eight guaranteed games until mid January. Should the Dons lose the play-off there is the safety-net of parachuting into the Conference League, with league games until mid December. A loan deal could be the best outcome for all three parties, Aberdeen, Miovski and Girona. Aberdeen provided a platform when signing Miovski for £535,000 from Hungarian club MTK Budapest in summer 2022. Starring for the Dons in Europe on loan could again provide a launch pad to propel Miovski back into the starting line-up at Girona. Or on to the radar of clubs who can afford to splash multi-millions to sign the striker. Aberdeen would win by having an attacker who has a track record at the club of scoring at domestic and European level. Girona win because if Miovski shines they get a player back in form on a high after regular Euro action – who can make an impact in Spain or be sold on.

Ex-Aberdeen star Bojan Miovski's Girona nightmare could be OVER

THE striker could be on the move again, only a year after he left Scotland ABERDEEN let North Macedonian striker Bojan Miovski leave the north-east for a club record fee last year. The talisman left Scotland for Champions League football with Girona, after the Dons did everything they could to hold on to their star man. 2 Bojan Miovski's Girona career hasn't went as planned so far 2 He left Aberdeen for the Catalan side for a fee of around £6million, Aberdeen's record departure Credit: SNS He earned his move after a stellar spell with Aberdeen, scoring 44 goals in 98 matches, but he had big shoes to fill on the continent. Ukranian forward Artem Dovbyk left Girona for Roma that summer and the former Dons man was brought in to replace the prolific forward. Miovski has not lived up to the high expectations that were set for his move in his debut year though. He has only netted a mere four times for Girona, two of which came against fifth tier side, CD Extremadura, and set up two goals in 25 matches. In the last 10 La Liga matches of the season, the striker only managed 20 minutes of football as his side battled for survival, which has left his future well and truly up in the air. According to AS, Girona chiefs are set for some tough talks in the off-season, with Miovski not excluded from the list. He is under contract until 2028, meaning it won't be easy to find the 25-year-old a new suitor. His transfer value has dropped significantly after his poor season, with the forward now valued at £2.5million, according to Transfermarkt, over £3million less than what he left Aberdeen for. Both Celtic and Rangers were said to be interested when the striker was on Aberdeen's books. Birmingham City were among other clubs outside of the old-firm pair who tried for his signature, before he penned with the Catalan side. Aberdeen's Scottish Cup-winning heroes greeted by thousands on open top bus parade through the city after beating Celtic Girona avoided relegation by just ONE point this season, dropping off from the heights of Champions League the season before. A huge rebuild could be on the cards for the club as they try and climb back up the table next year, and Miovski could very well be one of the players moved on. Bojan Miovski tees up SPFL return chance as Aberdeen hero 'up for sale' after Girona nightmare

The striker's debut season for the Catalan club in La Liga hasn't quite gone to plan Girona are reportedly willing to listen to offers for Bojan Miovski this summer – less than 12 months on from his big money move from Aberdeen. The North Macedonia international's 44 goals in two seasons at Pittodrie saw the La Liga side fork out £6.8million to bring him to Catalonia, with the Dons receiving a club record fee for the frontman. ‌ However, Miovski has endured something of a nightmare season in Spain. The 25-year-old managed just four foals in 25 appearances in all competitions, with two of those coming against sixth division minnows CD Extremadura in the Copa del Rey. ‌ The ex MTK Budapest attacker played just 20 minutes in his team's final 10 league games of the season after falling down the pecking order under head coach Michel. Girona had shocked Europe by qualifying for the Champions League with a third place finish in the 2023/24 campaign, with Ukrainian star Artem Dovbyk's 24 league strikes winning him a £32milion switch to Roma in Serie A. But their disappointing season saw them slump to 16th in the league standings, just a single point ahead of relegated Leganes - who include Miovski's former Aberdeen teammate Luis Duk Lopes amongst their ranks. ‌ And according to AS, Miovski's tough stint in Spain could soon be brought to an end. Miovski is under contract with the Catalan club until June 2028 but they add that that the Pittodrie hero's future is completely up in the air. The report also states that boss Michel and Girona Quique Carcel plan to hold crunch talks with Miovski and other players on the fringes of the squad ahead of the new season. ‌ Prior to his move to Girona, Miovski had tentatively been linked with several clubs around Europe including Celtic and had previously seen a bid from English Championship side Southampton knocked back by Aberdeen. Despite his lack of minutes at club level, the striker reminded everyone of what he can do in front of goal by scoring in both games of his country's World Cup qualifying double header against Liechtenstein and Wales back in March. Sean Wallace: Could Nicolas Milanovic be Aberdeen's next Bojan Miovski?

Aberdeen's expansive scouting network has stretched to the other side of the world with the club set to sign Australian winger Nicolas Milanovic. The 23-year-old will move to the Dons on a multi-year deal at the end of the season. Aberdeen are set to pay A-League club Western Sydney Wanderers around £400,000 to land the Australian under-23 international. Milanovic is one of the hottest talents in Australian football and is in the race to win the A-League Golden Boot award with 12 goals this season. The winger has been key in Western Sydney Wanderers' best season in a decade where they are in contention for the title. Milanovic is tipped to break into the Australian senior squad and turned down potential moves to Europe last year after a breakthrough season. Such is the winger's reputation former Australian international Tommy Oar recently said Wester Sydney Wanderers should sell him for 'millions'. So it appears landing Milanovic for £400,000 is fantastic business by Aberdeen. It is a deal reminiscent of the Dons' capture of Miovski from Hungarian top flight club MTK Budapest in summer 2022. MTK Budapest rejected an offer of €1.2 million (£1.03m) in summer 2021 from Rapid Vienna for the striker. A number of clubs including Czech Republic outfit Slavia Prague were keen on signing Miovski in January 2023 but were quoted a price of around £1.5m. Aberdeen beat off competition from clubs in Belgium, Russia, Hungary, Switzerland and Poland to sign Miovski. The Dons were able to sign the striker for the bargain fee of £545,000 following MTK Budapest's relegation from the top flight. Dropping down into the second tier sparked a fire-sale of the club's overseas players, including Miovski and Ylber Ramadani who the Reds also bought for £100,000. Aberdeen capitalised on a clause in Hungarian football where any club relegated from the top-flight must offload their overseas talent. Signing Miovski and Ramadani at cut-down prices was a masterstroke by the Dons. They were both the perfect embodiment of Aberdeen's player trading model. Secure players with potential to hit higher levels, get a season or two of high performance out of them in the first team, then sell for a considerable profit. Ramadani delivered one superb season before being sold to Italian Serie A club Lecce for £1.1m. North Macedonian Miovski scored 18 times in his debut campaign then followed that up with 26 goals last season. Miovski was sold to Spanish La Liga club last summer in a deal that could land the Dons up to £9million with potential add-ons and sell-on. There is a sense Aberdeen could have secured a similar bargain with Milanovic who can shine at Pittodrie before being sold for a major profit. That will be the hope within Pittodrie as boss Jimmy Thelin begins his bid to further strengthen the squad for next season. Aberdeen are spreading the net around the globe in the search for talent to fit their player trading model. Boss Thelin is working in conjunction with head of recruitment Nuno de Almeida to source signings for the summer transfer window. Aberdeen are also set to hire former Tottenham full-back and Swedish international Erik Edman as a scout. At the club's AGM chief executive Alan Burrows also said the club hoped the strategic partnership with Atlanta United could help source targets in the South American market. The net is being spread far and wide in the hope of finding the next Miovski that can shine in the first team and deliver a massive profit. And they may have found one in Milanovic.

Bojan Miovski's tough season at doomed Girona explored as defiant Aberdeen fans all say the same thing

Things haven't worked out for the striker since his £6.8million move from Pittodrie last summer After leaving Aberdeen, Bojan Miovski would have dreamed of a stellar debut season at Girona to help fire them to Champions League qualification for the second season running. But instead, the North Macedonia frontman has barely been able to make his mark in a team that are now staring at RELEGATION from La Liga for the second time in six years. ‌ The Catalonia side forked out £6.8million for Miovski last summer, with the Aberdeen receiving a club record fee for their idolised talisman. The former MTK Budapest striker hit an impressive 44 goals in 94 games across his two seasons in the Granite City, and it was hoped he would be able to contribute to Girona's tally to help fill the void left by last year's Pichichi Trophy (La Liga's top scorer award) winner Artem Dovbyk, who won a blockbuster £32.7million switch to Roma in Serie A. However, Miovski has simply found himself on the periphery of Miguel Angel Sanchez Munoz's plans. The forward started four of Girona's eight matches in the revamped Champions League but has been restricted to just 15 appearances in La Liga, scoring twice. Miovski suffered an injury that kept him out of six games over the winter but has made just three starts since the turn of the year. The 25-year-old has watched on from the bench as an unused substitute in the last three matches as Girona's form continues to plummet. Less than a year on from their shock third place finish, 10 league games without a victory has seen them slump to 16th place, just three points above the relegation zone with six games remaining. ‌ Pressure is now growing on the Girona's owners the City Group - who are led by Pep Guardiola's brother Pere and hold a 47% stake in the club - to bite the bullet and sack boss Michel to try to fend off the threat of relegation to the Segunda Division. And that could come as welcome news to Miovski. Despite his lack of minutes, the Dons hero sent a timely reminder of just what he can do in front of goal by scoring in both of North Macedonia's World Cup qualifiers in the March international break. The striker bagged his team's third goal in a 3-0 victory against Lichtenstein before appearing to get the winner against Wales three days later, only for the Dragons to snatch a share of the spoils with a 96th minute leveller. ‌ While some of Miovski's detractors may argue that he hasn't been able to make the step up to La Liga from the Scottish Premiership, Aberdeen fans in particular will point out that Girona simply haven't played to his strengths when he has been on the field. In his prolific spell in the Granite City, Miovski thrived off making penetrating runs in behind to race clear and score from one on one situations. He has managed just four goals in 23 matches in all competitions this season but in a 4-1 victory against local rivals Espanyol back in November, demonstrated just how effective he can be with the right service. ‌ Bojan Miovski scores twice and bags an assist for Girona against Espanyol Miovski set up Bryan Gil for the opener before his instinctive movement inside the box saw him bag a brace in Girona's four goal haul inside the first 27 minutes of the first half that effectively wrapped up the three points. The Macedonia star's - who had netted eight times in 31 caps for his country - underwhelming impact in Spain has got some rival fans in Scotland scoffing at the fact that Aberdeen were able to bank nearly £7million for Miovski last summer. But any fan of a red and white persuasion will tell you without the frontman last season, the Dons could have found themselves in even more trouble after missing out on the top six in the Premiership. It remains to be seen if the forward can prove those detractors right, but one thing is for sure, the Pittodrie hero looks like he has got a job on his hands to cement himself in a side that are a world away from where they imagined they would be at the start of the campaign.
