Licence revoked: Miri youth jailed, fined RM5,000 for dangerous motorcycle ride

MIRI (July 17): A youth who rode his motorcycle recklessly here has been sentenced to one day in prison and fined RM5,000 in default three months' imprisonment.
The 20-year-old was also disqualified from holding or applying for a driving licence for five years, effective from the date of sentencing today.
Magistrate Ashok Linggam handed down the sentence on Mores Jegon, from Tudan Desaras Phase 6 here, after he pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
The Section carries a jail term of up to five years and a maximum fine of RM15,000, in addition to being disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for five years.
A probationary driving licence may also be revoked upon conviction.
According to the facts of the case, Mores rode his motorcycle recklessly and dangerously on a public road, disregarding the safety of other road users.
He committed the offence at 11pm on May 31 along Jalan Miri-Bypass.
