Kathy Bates claims she lost starring role in Garry Marshall film to Michelle Pfeiffer due to her looks
For Kathy Bates, it didn't take Matlock to figure out what was going on. Despite the actress, 76, originating the role of Frankie in the Off-Broadway production, she was allegedly denied the part for the 1991 movie adaptation 'Frankie and Johnny' due to superficial reasons. The film — which ended up starring Michelle Pfeiffer as the waitress Frankie and Al Pacino as short-order cook Johnny — was directed by Garry Marshall, who refused to cast Bates. 7 F. Courtesy Everett Collection 'He couldn't make the leap that people would see me onscreen kissing someone,' she claimed to Vanity Fair in an interview published Tuesday. 'Me actually kissing a man onscreen — that would not be romantic.' Bates was nominated for an Obie Award and Drama Desk Award for her part as Frankie on the stage, but it had no bearing on Marshall's decision. Marshall died at age 81 in 2016. The 'Misery' star is used to commentary about her appearance, with a journalist once saying to her 'you're not Michelle Pfeiffer,' along with hearing jabs from her own family. 7 F. The same year as 'Frankie and Johnny,' Bates starred opposite Aidan Quinn in the adventure/drama 'At Play in the Fields of the Lord.' While promoting the project, a journalist asked the actor, 66: 'You're a leading man. Is it believable that you and Kathy would be married?' 'I went upstairs,' Bates admitted. 'They said, 'Actually, Ms. Bates, there's one leaving right now.' I said, 'Great. Get me on it.' I got on Virgin Air. Sat down. Picked up a magazine. It's about 'Frankie and Johnny.'' 'I'm doing everything I was trained to do,' she explained about the role. 'It's not that I hit every note exactly right, but I get to try. And I keep trying, and I keep trying.' Although the actress doesn't see herself retiring anytime soon, she does share: 'I have a feeling this is going to be the last thing I do. I hope we run a good while — I really do.' 7 Michelle Pfeiffer attends the 49th Annual AFI Life Achievement Award Honoring Nicole Kidman at Dolby Theatre on April 27, 2024. Despite her career renaissance — and recently losing 100 pounds — the 'American Horror Story' alum admits she still doesn't 'feel comfy.' 'I never felt that I belonged, but that's okay. I see them sail away in their gowns….,' she said with a grin. 'So now? It's sweet revenge. Oh, Miss Beauty Queen, you had a career up until your 40s and you can't work? Too bad!' 'I'll think, Oh, you shouldn't say this; oh, you shouldn't say that,' she confessed. 'But then I say, 'F–k it—I'm 76. Can't I just say it?''

Stalker copied horror film to target nurse and his girlfriend
A stalker who styled herself after a character from a horror film has been jailed. Holly White, 27, sent sinister messages to a male nurse and his girlfriend under the name of Kathy Bates, the actress who played an obsessive character in the psychological thriller Misery. White, who was a psychiatric patient at Liverpool's Clock View mental health facilities in 2019, became infatuated with Daniel McCann, who was a nursing assistant. Sefton magistrates' court heard White first messaged him on Facebook claiming she wanted to thank him for his help and told him: 'You are a credit to the NHS.' White claimed that she had fallen in love with Mr McCann. When he did not reply to her messages, she contacted him under the alias Kathy Bates, the actress who won an Oscar for her portrayal of Annie Wilkes, a murderous former nurse who holds a best-selling author captive, claiming to be his 'number one fan'. Mr McCann brushed off the messages at first, but contacted the police when White sent death threats to Eva Hegarty, his girlfriend, writing: 'Hope you can run because if I ever see you, you are dead. I hate you, you dirty little paedo. Good luck getting a fella if you ever break up with Daniel.' Ms Hegarty also received messages from the Kathy Bates account, which said: 'Does Danny being fat make you uncomfortable?' and 'No engagement ring yet sexy?' The couple, who are both nurses, were disturbed by the messages and moved away from Liverpool to an undisclosed location. 'I had to move away' In statements read to the court, Mr McCann and Ms Hegarty said White had left them 'extremely anxious and stressed'. Ms Hegarty said: 'She threatened to hurt me and she even stated that she hoped I would get raped. I wouldn't stay on my own in my own home. I was constantly looking over my shoulder. 'At one stage, I was too afraid to walk down the street in daylight hours in case she was around. She has really changed the way we are living our lives.' Mr McCann said: 'I am constantly stressed and paranoid about any contact from Holly. I felt intimidated by her. Eventually, I had to move away from Liverpool, a city I was born and raised in.' White also sent topless photos to Mr McCann's mother. The court also heard White had spent two months in hospital for various mental health issues, including bipolar disorder, which is how she crossed paths with Mr McCann. According to the Daily Mail, White was jailed for 16 weeks after admitting to one charge of harassment against the couple between February and June last year, along with one count of threatening to do serious harm to Ms Hegarty. White was also issued a restraining order that banned her from contacting the couple for 10 years. Steve Charters, defending, said that White was having relationship issues, has since reduced her medication and is now in a 'better place'.

Stalker played horror movie role so well she landed herself in jail
A stalker adopted horror film star Kathy Bates as an alias to launch a months-long campaign of harassment against a nurse she met at a psychiatric hospital. Holly White, 27, claims to have fallen in love 'at first sight' with nurse Daniel McCann when she was a patient for two months at Liverpool's Clock View mental health facility. When McCann ignored messages saying she fancied him, White continued messaging him using a Facebook profile under the name 'Kathy Bates'. Bates was lauded for her performance as nurse Annie Wilkes, the 'number one fan' of best-selling author she held captive in the 1990 film Misery. While Bates won and Oscar for the role, White's portrayal was so chilling it landed her in jail and forced McCann and his girlfriend to leave Liverpool, MailOnline reported. 'Hope you can run because if I ever see you, you are dead', White messaged McCann's girlfriend Eva Hegarty, a trainee nurse. 'I hate you, you dirty little paedo. Good luck getting a fella if you ever break up with Daniel.' In a statement read in court, Ms Hegarty said: 'She threatened to hurt me and she even stated that she hoped I would get raped. 'I wouldn't stay on my own in my own home. I was constantly looking over my shoulder. 'At one stage, I was too afraid to walk down the street in daylight hours in case she was around. She has really changed the way we are living our lives.' Angela Conlan, prosecuting, said: 'Using the Kathy Bates account, the defendant commented on a picture of his mother being 'fit' and messaged, 'Where is she going dressed like that? Not bad for an old boot'.' Messaging Ms Hegarty, White said 'Does Danny being fat make you uncomfortable' and 'No engagement ring yet sexy?'. Mr McCann said: 'I am constantly stressed and paranoid about any contact from Holly. 'I felt intimidated by her. Eventually I had to move away from Liverpool, a city I was born and raised in.' More Trending White even claimed she'd had 'numerous sexual interactions' with McCann while in hospital. Her lawyer, Steve Charters, said White was having relationship issues and is now in a 'better place' since reducing her medication. White admitted harassing the couple between February and June last year. She also admitted sending a communication threatening death or serious harm to Ms Hegarty. Jailed for 16 weeks at Sefton Magistrates' Court, White has also been banned from contacting her victims for 10 years under a restraining order.
