Buxar to hold 3-day workshop on ancient Kaithi script in Aug
Buxar: Aiming at raising awareness about Kaithi and preserve the legacy for future generations, Sitaram Upadhyay Museum, Buxar, and Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (Intach), Patna Chapter, will jointly organise a three-day training-cum-workshop on the ancient script of Bihar from Aug 2 to 4 here. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Announcing this on Thursday, Sitaram Upadhyay Museum curator Shiv Kumar Mishra said that the registration for the workshop will begin on July 18 at the museum. Participation is limited, and priority will be given to professionals involved in land and legal documentation — such as revenue officials, 'amin', 'kanungo', advocates and bank employees — since the Kaithi script holds significant relevance in land-related matters. Mishra said that the ongoing land survey by the Bihar govt requires reading of historical documents written in Kaithi, a skill that is currently lacking among most stakeholders. This knowledge gap poses challenges in processing land records and obtaining loans based on such documentation. Art and culture officer of Buxar district, Pratima Kumari, said the Kaithi script is a valuable cultural heritage of Bihar. Evidence of the script dates back nearly 1,000 years but from the era of Sher Shah Suri, Kaithi became widely used for land and legal records. Historical figures such as Veer Kunwar Singh and the maharaja of Darbhanga also used the Kaithi script for land deeds. However, in today's context, even advocates and judicial officials often lack the necessary script literacy, complicating legal adjudication of land disputes — one of the most common issues pending in Bihar's courts. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now To preserve this valuable linguistic heritage, Mishra and his team have conducted numerous training and awareness programmes across Bihar in cities like Patna, Darbhanga, Bhagalpur, Nawada and Begusarai. Bihar revenue department has also taken an initiative to train its employees, with two young trainers — Pritam Kumar and Waqar Ahmed — leading the govt sessions across various districts.

Delhi HC pulls up Wipro: What a company can't say in employee's dismissal letter
The Delhi High Court has rapped Wipro for remarks against the professional character of an employee in his termination letter. Abhijit Mishra, who had worked as a principal consultant at the company, filed a defamation suit and sought over Rs 2.10 crore in compensatory damages. But what did the IT major say in the pink slip? read more Wipro has been asked to pay compensatory damages to its former employee. Representational Image/Reuters Can employers use harsh language against an employee in a termination letter? The Delhi High Court has come down heavily on IT major Wipro Limited for remarks against the professional character of a former employee in his dismissal letter. The court has asked the company to pay compensation to the man and issue a fresh termination letter. The ex-employee had filed a defamation suit and sought damages of over Rs 2.10 crore. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Let's take a closer look. What did Wipro say in the pink slip? Abhijit Mishra worked as a principal consultant at Wipro between 2018-2020. In his termination letter, the company used phrases like 'malicious conduct' and 'complete loss of trust.' He then moved the Delhi High Court against Wipro and sought compensation. Delhi High Court pulls up Wipro The Delhi High Court has ordered Wipro to pay Rs 2 lakh in compensatory damages to Mishra over the termination letter that it said was replete with 'stigma and insinuations.' Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav asked Wipro to expunge defamatory remarks made against the professional character of its ex-employee. 'Further, a fresh termination letter shall be issued to the plaintiff devoid of any defamatory content, and consequently, the impugned termination letter shall cease to be of any effect insofar as the defamatory content is concerned,' the Delhi High Court said, as per LiveLaw. The court found that Wipro's termination letter contained unsubstantiated negative remarks against Mishra. 'The remarks therein, couched in the use of the term 'malicious conduct', not only lack substantiation but also have a direct and deleterious impact on the future employability and professional dignity of the plaintiff,' the judge noted. Ruling in favour of the ex-employee, the High Court said that there was a 'clear mismatch' between the comments in the dismissal letter and consistent positive feedback in several official documents. The court observed that the remarks were 'demonstrably false and defamatory in nature' and that Wipro did not establish a valid defence. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD ALSO READ: Why Karnataka is probing mass layoffs at Infosys It asked Wipro to pay compensation to Mishra 'to redress the reputational harm, emotional hardship, and loss of professional credibility'. Justice Kaurav said that the tenor of the communication reflected a noticeable 'intent to carry out a form of character assassination by Wipro under the semblance of administrative formality, thereby compounding the damage to Mishra's reputation and standing,' as per an Economic Times (ET) report. The Delhi High Court also interpreted the doctrine of 'compelled self-publication' in matters related to defamation, ruling that 'employers cannot evade liability' under defamation law by using 'confidential correspondence as a shield'. Justice Kaurav said about the doctrine, 'It ensures that employers cannot evade liability by using confidential correspondence as a shield when, in substance, their actions set in motion the very harm the law seeks to redress.' He concluded that the defamation law cannot allow reputational harm, arising out of unsupported claims, to continue, especially when it significantly impacts a person's career and prospects, reported LiveLaw. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD What did Wipro argue in court? Wipro had argued before the High Court that Mishra, who worked in a senior, creative, and managerial position that required highly creative and original work, focused more on his self-styled identity as a 'crusader for social change,' rather than his professional duties, as per the ET report. The company claimed Mishra's behaviour showed his 'lack of interest' in improving his professional performance, which ultimately resulted in his termination. With inputs from agencies

He was out on parole and was undergoing treatment when members of a rival gang shot him. We are working with the Buxar police to identify the assailants,' said Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikay Sharma. Police are also probing the role of the hospital's security staff and whether there was any collusion that enabled the attackers to gain such easy access to the victim. Live Events The brazen hospital killing has intensified public and political outrage, especially amid a recent spike in violent crimes across Bihar's capital. Several high-profile murders, including those of businessman Gopal Khemka, BJP leader Surendra Kewat, and lawyer Jitendra Mahato, have raised concerns about the government's grip on law and order. The ruling JDU-BJP coalition, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, is facing mounting pressure from the Opposition, especially with state elections on the horizon. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav lashed out at the administration, questioning the safety of ordinary citizens. 'Criminals backed by the government stormed an ICU and killed a patient. Is anyone safe in Bihar anymore? Did such things happen before 2005?' he asked. In response, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha condemned the incident and promised swift action. 'This is a serious and unfortunate event. A full investigation is underway, and those responsible will be brought to justice. The Chief Minister has made it clear that the culprits will be punished,' he said. The daring attack has once again turned the spotlight on Bihar's security apparatus, sparking fears over public safety and the unchecked rise of gang-related violence in the state.

Gangs Of Bihar: 5 Men Walk Into Patna Hospital With Guns, Shoot Patient Dead
Patna: Five armed men enter a Bihar hospital, casually walk into a patient's room, pump bullets into him and escape. This is not a movie. This is Bihar's horrifying reality. The CCTV cameras at the hospital captured the five shooters pulling out their guns, opening the cabin's door, and then escaping. The target, Chandan Mishra, died during treatment. Mishra, a hardened criminal with dozens of murder cases against him, was out on parole on medical grounds. He was admitted to Patna's Paras Hospital, where the shooting took place this morning. Police believe that a rival gang is behind the chilling attack. "A criminal named Chandan Mishra, resident of Buxar district, against whom dozens of cases of murder are registered, was transferred from Buxar to Bhagalpur jail. Chandan was on parole and admitted to Paras Hospital for treatment. The rival gang shot him. He is undergoing treatment, and with the help of the Buxar police, we are identifying the members of the rival gang, Chandan Sheru gang," Kartikay Sharma, Senior Superintendent of Police, told the media after the shooting. Mishra later succumbed to his injuries. Police have said they are also investigating whether the hospital's security guards were involved in the incident. The hospital shooting has yet again spotlighted the law and order situation in the Bihar capital, which has made headlines for multiple cases of murder in the past few weeks. Among those killed are businessmen Gopal Khemka, BJP leader Surendra Kewat and lawyer Jitendra Mahato. The Nitish Kumar-led JDU-BJP government is on the back foot as the rising crime graph has given ammunition to the Opposition RJD and Congress to target the state government months ahead of state polls. In the aftermath of the hospital shooting, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has questioned the Bihar government if "anyone was safe anywhere" in the state. "Government-backed criminals stormed into the ICU and shot a patient admitted to the hospital. Is anyone safe anywhere in Bihar? Has this happened before 2005?" he asked. Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha has assured that the criminals would be caught. "Such an incident is unfortunate. It will be thoroughly investigated and the criminal will not be spared. The Chief Minister of Bihar has said the criminal will be caught and strictly punished."
